Wouldn't that logic apply even more to Wiz considering Carey Price is much better than Luongo?
-
I'm not a huge Jim Leyland fan, but that was frickin epic. Definite fine for showing the umpire up. That was a bizarre call though. Indians win in Arizona so the lead stays at one with the Jose Reyes show coming to town.

The once strong starting pitching has hit a major rough patch lately. Even Max with 9 wins has been getting hit around and he gets a ton of run support. I think it may be time to pull the plug on the Coke starting experiment. Stretch out Furbush in the rotation or let Oliver come back up. Glad to see Ryan Perry fixed his control issues. Oh, Brandon Inge and Ryan Raburn batting 8th and 9th =

Ideally, I agree. That being said, Dumars loves him and no Kuester around may mean Stuckey is more willing to accept the Pistons offer. I hate his attitude, but I think he still has potential if he can slide over and play the two. I really like the Singler pick too in the second round. Tough and great work ethic. The Pistons need some of those qualities badly at the moment.

So stoked Knight fell to the Pistons at 8. Love the pick - now whiner Stuckey can go where he belongs at shooting guard.

I couldn't agree more. I frickin loved those uniforms today. I have never been crazy about the orange in the away uniforms either and I don't like the script Detroit now at all. Cleveland went old school and they look terrific. Nice, long homestand now. What do the Tigers do with Brandon Inge now? Can they honestly say he deserves to start over Don Kelly? I'm not sure the Tigers can afford to roll out a lineup with both Raburn and Inge in it.

Bieksa is at the top of my wish list. Wisniewski is more realistic and would be a great addition as well. The one d-man I don't want any part of is Ehrhoff. Forwards are less concerning to me though I would be thrilled with Scottie Upshall.

Wreck was a poor choice of words. I probably was emotional about some issue when I dropped that term. They can definitely look like a wreck at times, though I guess it would be better classified as erratic or wildly inconsistent. Which is fine because the AL Central as a whole fits that description, but it doesn't make the Tigers any less frustrating to watch at certain times. It isn't really all that early to get concerned anymore especially considering the Tigers history under Leyland in the second half. With Mauer back, I still think the Twins somehow may find a way to steal the division again. That being said, I guess I fit in the minority that actually enjoys interleague play. I can do without seeing the Royals or White Sox 19 times. It's a nice change to see some different teams. However, I do agree with Leyland that they need to pick a set of rules (should be NL) and stick to them for interleague games. Hopefully with potential realignment it will balance out the schedule even more. JV was remarkable again today. He just keeps throwing gems every single start. You just assume a Tigers win every fifth day from him regardless of opponent. It will be interesting to see how Dombrowski approaches the trade deadline. I still think another arm in the bullpen is the most pressing need even with Alburquerque and Furbush emerging to this point. David Wright or Jose Reyes would be incredible, but say goodbye to Jacob Turner for either.

Very true. Z plays against better forwards every game. He's a better back-checker, has stronger defensive sense and positioning. I would argue Z is even a better penalty killer even though he doesn't get the chance to keep his minutes down. Again, I'm not knocking Filppula as he has very strong defensive skills. But as others have said in the thread, Datsyuk and Zetterberg are in a class of their own as two of the best defensive forwards in the league. Filppula isn't at that level, nor do I see him getting there.
-
Seriously, tell me again why Scott Sizemore got traded because the logic still hasn't clicked for me. Ryan Raburn is fricking awful at 2nd base. Sizemore got 20 games as his chance, Raburn gets apparently all season and Inge can hit .200 every season and still start at third base. I don't know what Dombrowski's plan is other than he doesn't have one. They better not lose this game and the series to the Indians. That's embarassing.
-
If Henrik Zetterberg can't even get nominated consistently, no chance hell in Filppula ever will, let alone win the Selke. That's not even a knock really on Filppula as he is a quite strong two-way forward, but he isn't even anywhere near Z's league defensively.

Draper, Osgood possibly this year. Lidstrom hopefully not now, Holmstrom next year. All of the guys that have made this franchise what it is for two decades now are starting to go away. Not even bringing hockey into the equation, it is sad to see guys that have been a staple of this organization moving on. It's all speculative still, but I just hope they ALL receive the proper appreciation when the time comes. Some of the short-sighted comments already are pathetic.
-
So Draper and Osgood are "passing the torch" to Jagr? I thought the point was to get younger and better. I'm not buying this at all. It doesn't strike me as a Ken Holland-like move. I would rather have Scottie Upshall by a wide margin with the Jagr money if the Red Wings go the forward route in free agency.

Nothing against Curtis as he was my favorite player, but I'll take Max Scherzer alone over him every day. Not to mention, Jackson and Coke who are valuable assets to the Tigers future as well. Travis has a great point too -- you can check swing and hit one out to right at Yankee Stadium. Huge series starts tonight for the Tigs. I don't care how early it is, I want to beat up on the Indians and get the division lead. The White Sox are right there and they are usually a second half team unlike the Tigers under Leyland. It's a longshot, but the Twins are on fire lately too. I see you Justin Verlander.
-
Justin Verlander isn't human. Bats are starting to heat up too lately, especially Boesch and Jackson. I really feel like getting a healthy Maggs back will be a huge boost as well.
-
Obviously not intended for me, but to throw a name out there: Scottie Upshall. 22 goals and he's a free agent this summer. He will get a raise from his current deal, but he's still going to be more affordable than Hartnell.
-
Kuester, like Curry before him, was handed a disaster and hired to fail. I don't think either is anything special as a coach, but they are both scapegoats for Joe Dumars wreck of a team he has created. The Pistons are so far away from contention. They have one certain player to build the franchise around and maybe two other potential complements. Stuckey needs to go, same with T-Mac, Tayshaun (finally!), and old Ben too. I want Mike Woodson to be the next head coach. If Kelvin Sampson gets the job, I will cry.
-
Cabby! JV deserved the win too. The fluke Indians are slumping now too. Hopefully Penny can rebound a little tomorrow and get the Tigers a series win before a tough trip to Texas.
-
Interesting that the proper medical condition for "can't hit a baseball" is now called mono. Raburn is going to catch the "illness" next.
-
Terrelle Pryor might be one of the dumbest people on the planet. Tressel catered to a guy that was overhyped and overrated. I hope he never sees the field again.
-
I don't see the perfect human making a very imperfect choice like that.
-
I wouldn't mind Reyes at all, but the price would be absurd I'm sure. Reyes at short, move Peralta to third and then the flavor of the week at second (hopefully not Raburn).
-
If Urban doesn't get it, my first hunch would be Bo Pelini. I honestly don't know how Gruden would handle the grind of recruiting. We also have to keep in mind this may not be a real attractive job depending on the punishment from the NCAA. They surely are going to get it worse than U$C.

VAN/BOS: 4-1 Thanks again for doing this NFM!

Can't wait for the SI story. This is a great day. I keep cracking up too at all of my OSU friends talking about Urban Meyer being the next coach. Yeah, just what OSU needs is another slimy coach who probably ran an equally dirty program but bailed Pete Carroll style before the axe dropped. Yeah the guy can win, but so could Tressel and look at what expense it took. It definitely makes you appreciate the schools that do it right.
