Osgood injures his groin in practice

No idea, but it took MacDonald 13 years in hockey to even make 72 NHL starts. If Joey was truly better right now, why wouldn't the coaching staff have gone with him the past two games instead of Ozzie? It's not like Babcock has an issue letting Ozzie sit on the bench.

Giants nine outs away from a championship... Lincecum + Wilson = Game Over I love watching them play baseball.

Osgood injures his groin in practice

You know what that's called? Joey MacDonald's only highlight. I bet it didn't take long to find. There's a reason the guy has only played 72 games in his NHL career. Might I also add he's won just 18 of those starts with a 3.30 GAA. Clearly better than that bum approaching 400 career wins.

Trade Rip please. Ben Gordon is way better. This may sound like a poor fan, but I would rather the Pistons be really bad than mediocre. At least have a good shot in the lottery to rebuild because this collection of talent misfits is not leading to anything promising. I don't even want to make the playoffs as a lower seed. We need high-end talent in the draft.

Abdlekader in, Osgood to start again.

What? Cleary has been the only guy worth a damn on that line. Neither Modano nor Hudler have played any semblance of defense or went hard after a puck the entire season. Babcock must think Cleary is doing just fine - he gets moved up to Hank and Pavel's line in tight games. There's a reason for that. Modano is brutal. His effort is pathetic. He should be the one to sit and bring Abdelkader in to center the third line. Modano has been the worst forward on the team by far.

Kronwall needs time in the press box

We need 2008 playoff version of Kronwall back. They can't sit Kronwall now with Janik and Kindl already dressed. Lidstrom and Stuart would have to play 40 minutes. Never thought I would say this, but I'm looking forward to getting Ericsson back.

Oh what a shock... The Pistons got murdered in the paint by the Nets. This will happen 81 more times this season and everyone but Joe Dumars will realize this team has needed a big man (or five) for years now.

I keep thinking the Giants lack of offense will catch up to them and it just hasn't happened yet. They find ways to win games and their pitching is superb. I know MLB really hates it, but I am very excited about this World Series. I love it when teams like the Rangers and Giants get there instead of the Yankees, Phillies, Red Sox. It's like justice that money can't buy championships every season. I could see either team winning in a long series, but I'm going to keep riding the Giants pitching and their ability to ink out enough offense. If the Giants beat Lee in Game 1 (easier said than done), I like the rest of the Giants rotation more than Lewis, Wilson and Hunter.

    2010 College Football Season Thread

Sigh. I seriously wonder why I bother anymore. I'm almost all the way to the point where I have completely accepted permanent mediocrity in my life from Notre Dame Football. Any expectations, even minor, get stomped on and trashed with losses like this every season. I can't comprehend how it is possible to lose 3 of 4 years to Navy and very close to 4 straight. Sometimes I get frustrated watching the Red Wings because they win a lot of nights on talent alone, but at least they frickin win. I want to believe in Brian Kelly, but today was Charlie Weis all over again. Outhustled, outworked, outcoached by a vastly inferior opponent. I wasn't expecting a miracle in year one, but man you gotta at least win the games you are supposed to. I'm not sure I can bear to watch the Utah and USC massacres still to come. This football program has had no pride for a decade now and that stings maybe even more than the losing.

    The Third Line

I want Cleary to play with Hank and Pavel, but I don't think putting Holmstrom with Modano and Hudler is going to benefit that third line at all unfortunately.

10/21 GDT: Flames 2 at Red Wings 4

It may be. The last game I recall Jimmy losing in regulation was to the Flames at the Joe in early March. I believe Calgary pulled ahead of the Wings that night before they went on a tear to end the season. If so, that's a hell of a streak.

    First Impressions

Agreed. That's a nice reality for most realistic people. On a somewhat related note, I loved Babcock "joking" with Keating after the game last night. "You're like our fans John - you expect us to win every game 10-1." Gotta love Babcock.

    Wings need a goalie

That comment doesn't even make sense. If those two are having a major effect on the Red Wings success to begin with, then this team is already in a ton of trouble. You are saying a back-up goalie and possible 4th liner being gone is going to open up a realm of great things? The OsBad thing is just stupid. I don't think a goalie about to hit 400 career wins is "bad". Interesting perspective though.

    Wings need a goalie

Yeah, because Jimmy was so stellar against the Avalanche. The entire team needs to work harder and get back to the level they were last weekend. The Red Wings were going to lose the past two games regardless of the goalie. The defensive coverage is pathetic.

10/14 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Stars 4

I loved it in 2006 as a Tigers fan. Only time in my life they have made the playoffs so that celebration was amazing. I can see why the Rangers did it as well having never won a playoff series. For teams like the Yankees and Phillies though it makes less sense because they do it every year. Anyways, hoping the Red Wings decide to actually work out there tonight. I expect no less coming off that effort on Tuesday. Go Ozzie and Wings!

Four years ago today: October 14, 2006. Probably the best baseball moment in younger Tigers' fans lives. I know it definitely was for me. All the years of misery were gone with one swing from Maggs. Too bad the Tigers couldn't finish it off in the World Series. Very special team, hope we get back there soon.

I actually think Lincecum-Cain-Sanchez is pretty damn close to what the Phillies have. Only difference being the Giants starting pitchers have no margin for error with the offense they have supporting them. The Phillies most certainly do. Definitely want Giants/Rangers in the World Series. I wonder if Cliff Lee could pitch every game against the Yankees. That might be their only prayer sadly.

Osgood to get the start in Dallas

Sounds familiar. Change the name and welcome to last season. I'm glad Ozzie is starting and getting into games early. He was really good in Chicago and Jimmy had a rough game against Colorado. I'm glad Babcock understands the value of having Ozzie ready throughout the season.

10/12 GDT: Avalanche 5 at Red Wings 4 (SO)

The puck went through Howard's legs. I don't care where Janik was standing - Howard, as an NHL goaltender, has to stop a puck on the ice that could only beat him through the five hole. It was a soft goal. We don't really need "conclusive evidence" to confirm it.
  24. GoWings1905

10/12 GDT: Avalanche 5 at Red Wings 4 (SO)

Exactly. Babcock was clearly implying he didn't think too highly of Jimmy's performance before the shootout.

10/12 GDT: Avalanche 5 at Red Wings 4 (SO)

If the positive was those six shooters then I think it's fair to assume the 65 previous minutes weren't so strong. I never blamed the entire loss on Jimmy - a few posts earlier I stated the entire team played like garbage. My point was Jimmy played a role with a couple of soft goals and obviously Babcock felt the same way although he said it more in an indirect manner. I'm sure Jimmy will be fine, but last night definitely wasn't a solid peformance in net.
