    Stanley Cup Predictions

I want to see Red Wings/Penguins and that's probably pretty realistic. However, I will go with Red Wings/Bruins. Sorry, Gary.

Kirk Maltby nearing 1 year, 2 way deal

Bringing Kirk Maltby back isn't going to make or break the Wings' season.

He needs to spend more time around his GM and hope some of the goodness rubs off.

I've Never Wached Game 7 of the 2009 SCF...

I tried to forget as much as I could about that night, but the one thing that I still remember is how fast the third period went by. I can't recall ever watching such a quick period. Obviously the Wings being down 2-0 and then 2-1 played a role, but it all just came crashing down abruptly. I want to see the Penguins next June. It's the only way to make things right.

They need at least 3 of 4 against the Jays and at least 2 of 3 in Minnesota to really have any prayer. The only good news for the Tigers is they still play the two teams in front of them 13 combined times over the final month or so. That's only favorable though if they win at a very high rate. Leyland cost them a game yesterday. He's the only person alive that still doesn't realize Valverde shouldn't come in during the 8th. It doesn't work, ever. Then he let Laird hit with two on and one out with a chance to win the game. Of course, double play ball from Gerald Mendoza to end the inning. Peralta, Avila, Kelly all on the bench and he lets Laird hit? Scherzer and JV the next two nights. Gotta have two wins.

He's a beast. Obviously I'm a Tigers fan, but I can see all of the Reds games living in Ohio. Now there's a fun team to watch play baseball.

    Willie Mitchell

I wanted him here, but damn that's well more out of the Red Wings price range than I originally expected.

You could bat Crawford probably 2nd or even 3rd depending on who else the Tigers decide to surround around Cabby in the order. I'm really a big fan of Maggs and I would rather have him back than Damon as the DH if it comes down to one or the other. Neither should be playing the outfield on a regular basis. Crawford in left, A-Jax in center, Boesch in right. I agree though - the Tigers need a TON of help on the left side of the infield and at catcher. Laird has to go and one of Peralta/Inge should be at third base if they decide to keep one around. Peralta can't shouldn't play SS every day - his defense is atrocious and he doesn't hit enough to make up for it.

Carl. Crawford. I would take back everything I have ever said about Dombrowski if he can pull it off this winter.

I like Damon, but if there are prospects of any sort to be had in exchange, then do it without question. I was hoping the same exact thing would happen to Inge with the Cardinals instead of Feliz. The Tigers are done this season and the farm system stinks. If the Red Sox want Damon back as a likely rental, then the Tigers could always re-sign him this off-season anyways. Damon said he likes the organization and he certainly would understand the business side of being traded. Plus the Tigers can get a longer look at Casper Wells and maybe Ryan Strieby/Jeff Frazier in September if Damon goes.

    Who will be shipped

I like Drew Miller, but not at the expense of losing Ritola already.

How big of a Wings fan is your Wife/Girlfriend/Significant Other?

Hopefully she handles "areas" better than Lebda did the puck.

In Depth Look at the Central Division

Agree with the top two, but Nashville is still better than St. Louis. The Predators are like the Minnesota Twins - they just go out and win each year (during the regular season at least). The Blues still don't have enough offense to seriously contend in the division even though Halak was a nice addition. I think the Central may have four playoff teams.

I agree with the seperate division for UM/OSU. Unfortunately, Michigan is going to turn it around at some point. Although, seperate divisions would almost mean it wouldn't be the last game of the season then no? I doubt either team would want to play two straight weekends with the conference championship on the line assuming Nebraska, Penn State, etc. aren't better that given year.

    Wings sign Ruslan Salei

I actually really like this move. I was hoping for a Salei/McKee type d-man if Lilja was out of the picture. Mitchell would have been terrific, but I always thought he was going to end up out of the Red Wings price range even with the injury history. Salei is a nice fit for the bottom pairing and hopefully will mentor Ericsson to a strong season.

#24 should be retired? But to who?

Neither one deserves it by a longshot. I appreciate both players, but it's the highest honor an organization can give to a player. I'd say the ones in the rafters at Joe Louis Arena right now exemplify that very well. Bob Probert and Chris Chelios... not so much. If there is any debate, then the answer is no.

    Wings offer Aaron Downey Tryout?

Now that news gets me excited. Mitchell would be great for the Red Wings.

Besides 2006, the Tigers have underachieved or been flat-out awful under Dombrowski. While I believe he does have many desirable qualities as GM, they often get overshadowed by poor decisions. The lingering in mediocrity right now is sqaurely on Dombrowki's moronic gesture to hand out awful contracts and extensions to average or in some cases worthless players. I love Maggs, but that's one of the worst contracts ever. Inge, Bonderman, Robertson, and Willis' contracts are killing this franchise ability to seriously contend right now. I realize overpayment is sometimes necessary to attract free agents to Detroit in baseball, but let's make sure they are actually worth a damn before giving them contracts to stay forever with the Tigers. I'd love Jair Jurrjens back more than any other bonehead move Dombrowski has made too. The Tigers are competitive every season lately, which for me is really a first in my life. But if Mr. Ilitch is going to hand Dombrowski a blank check then I expect a little more now than one playoff appearance in five years. I almost wish Ilitch would cut back so the Tigers hand would be forced to build a team the proper way through building up a strong farm system. The Tigers have literally nothing for position players as quality prospects in their farm system right now. Tons of pitching, but what happens when the huge markets outbid the Tigers this winter in free agency and leave the Tigers with no left side of the infield and catcher again? Having the salary off the books is good in theory, but it doesn't guarantee you can always fill your needs just by bidding for a free agent especially when the Yankees can come around and double any offer. I'm kind of in the middle with Leyland. I don't think he's as bad as some people make him out to be, especially given the circumstances last season and this one. I think overall Leyland has done a pretty nice job given the hand he was dealt by Dombrowski every year since 2006. I will never understand Leyland's decision to give Placido Polanco the day off with the chance to clinch the AL Central though. He ended up getting a lot of days off, Jim.

Jhonny Peralta? Yuck... Are we trying to go for the lowest team batting average in history? Every Indians fan and sports commentary show couldn't wait to get rid of the guy and all they have is Andy Marte at third base right now. Just give Sizemore a chance. The season ended the second Maggs slid into home.

    Pick Your Favorite Wings' Title

2002 was the best team, but 2008 was my personal favorite of the Red Wings Stanley Cup victories. That 2008 team was an absolute treat to watch. They put on a clinic every night with their puck possession. Dominant top line, hands down the best defense in the league and Ozzie was lights out in the playoffs. Plus, it also shut the people up who always griped about the Red Wings "buying" championships. The salary cap has just proven the Red Wings are the best franchise in the NHL.

    Wings offer Aaron Downey Tryout?

What? How is the guy potentially going to be our third line center even remotely close to Downey signing for a frickin tryout? While I have no problem with Downey, it's absurd to believe he would contribute more to the Red Wings success next season than Mike Modano would. That also means Downey would have to make the team and jump an abundance of far better forwards to even crack the line-up.
