Zumaya will be hurt after the first week. People will show up at Comerica if the team is a contender, regardless of the economy. I think the Tigers were still 5th in the AL in attendance last season. The team is broke because of Dombrowski's awful contracts to dead weight on the team. They don't have to cut back the payroll as drastically if Dombrowski doesn't go nuts spending on Sheffield, Robertson, Willis, Bonderman, etc. I'm fine with rebuilding -- every major league franchise goes through the cycle except the big markets and huge spenders. I just can't understand the mixed messages the Tigers organization is sending. Don't go into a rebuilding phase and sugarcoat it as "making changes while trying to contend." Nobody is buying that looking at the roster now.

1. Zetterberg 2. Franzen 3. Kronwall 4. Cleary 5. Ericsson 6. Williams (a little) 7. Lilja 8. Rafalski/Filppula (a wish that may come true) 9. One way ticket for Leino to Finland 10. Rematch in June with the Penguins to settle the score

I would be THRILLED to see Rodney leave IF the Tigers had any bullpen depth, but they don't whatsover. I was more disappointed to see Lyon go -- I thought he was the Tigers best reliever last season. Who is our closer now? Ryan Perry walking every other batter? Or are we just assuming there won't be many save opportunities to begin with? David Dombrowski has cemented this off-season as a complete failure.

That's just as bad (probably worse) than Johnson winning the male award. Uhh ... Kobe Bryant, Usain Bolt, Peyton Manning, an actual athlete maybe?

Didn't you spout that same nonsense when Holland signed Drew Miller? Look how that turned out...

I think you answered your own question. Nick is "old".

Kopecky. That big doofus has no hockey ability whatsoever.

Who cares? Unless the news is "______ healthy enough to play", I am not going to care one way or the other. Newbury or Ritola doesn't matter -- neither one is going to win the Wings' games.

I believe the Wings beat Boston on Versus in early November. Agreed on the fewer national televised games, the better.

Unless Leino starts providing some offense, I don't see any reason for him to play when other forwards get healthy. Bertuzzi - Zetterberg - Cleary Franzen - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Miller (Leino) - Filppula - Williams Draper - Helm - Eaves (Maltby/May) Eaves and Miller have earned their roster spots with hard work and both are very welcome additions to the penalty kill. I think Maltby has actually been pretty solid this season, but I can't justify him playing over other forwards when everyone (hopefully) comes back healthy. I used to be in the play Z/Datsyuk together camp, but the Wings depth up the middle is much stronger with each centering their own respective lines. Z and Cleary have great chemistry together and Mule can add that finishing ability to Pavel's line.

Could Some Westen Teams Who Make The Playoffs = Advantage Wings?
GoWings1905 replied to rage's topic in General
The Wings would crush LA or Phoenix in a playoff series. -
I think it's just a matter of time before Martin is named DC.

How big of an impact would Hudler be having on this season's team.

Spot on. Hudler got treated like dirt from Babcock. -

We have that in Leino. Hudler at least put up goals/points. His numbers from last season might outscore Bertuzzi, Williams, and Leino combined. -

For every good move DD has made, there is an equally bad move. Handing out bad contracts to Willis, Robertson, Guillen. I won't include Bonderman or Maggs because one is just unlucky and the other proved his value. The Sheffield trade bombed. I love Miguel Cabrera, but the Tigers are wasting his talent surrounding him with nothing in the batting order. We lost our two best prospects (Miller and Maybin) in an already depleted farm system. Jurrjens for Renteria was the absolute worst deal and now throw in trading the face of the franchise for a bunch of pieces. I am very sour on Dombrowski right now. One magical season since 2001 is his only saving grace. If the Tigers goal is to clear salary to keep JV -- not being competitive isn't going to keep him around. Losing Granderson is one thing, losing JV will cripple this franchise.

Brian Kelly!!! I am so excited right now. Thank you Jack Swarbrick for not settling again. My faith in Notre Dame Football is back (at least until next September).

Brad Stuart > Danny Markov Markov looked better than he really is because he played with Lidstrom.

Terrific! Dirty play by Jackass - puck was gone, left his feet, led with the elbow. Salt in the wound...

Babcock speaks the truth. Our natural goal scorer is gone until after the Olympics. Kenny may have to pull the trigger on a deal before that because this team desperately needs offense.

I'm not sure the Tigers are any better than the Royals or Indians now. No depth in the starting rotation, no bullpen (assuming one or both of Lyon and Rodney leave) and one legitimate bat in Cabrera. The White Sox have put together a solid off-season and have Peavy for an entire year now. They are the only team that can give the Twins a run for the division.

Leino skates great circles with the puck along the boards...

Things To Look Forward To As A Tigers Fan In 2010: 1. Jeremy Bonderman's change-up (5th straight year on the list) 2. Dontrelle Willis fixing his control issues 3. Nate Robertson's improved jaw - this team isn't rallying to win games 4. Miguel Cabrera batting with nobody on base 5. Fernando Rodney not giving us a heart attack (save situations will be quite rare) 6. Great seats available at CoPa 7. Justin Verlander

It is still Dombrowski's fault for even putting the Tigers in a position to have to trade Curtis. There is so much dead, expensive weight on this team and thanks to Dombrowski handing out pathetic contracts, we no longer have the face of the franchise.
