    Pistons fire Michael Curry!

Ben Gordon AND Charlie Villanueva on day one of free agency. One or both of Rip and Tayshaun is gone for sure now. Package them together Joe D. with first round picks through 2029 to get Chris Bosh! The Pistons are as active as the Red Wings are quiet.

    Ok, Jiri Hudler

Hudler isn't redundant. Where are we replacing the offense of Hossa and Sammy from especially if Hudler doesn't come back? Holmstrom isn't a top six forward anymore. Leino maybe has the potential, but hasn't proven much at the NHL level (not really his fault). The Red Wings re-signed Val Filppula (which probably ultimately cost us Hossa), who you could argue is very redundant on this team, and yet Hudler is a much bigger threat offensively and he should go? Hudler had 57 points playing on the third line most of the past season. We need Jiri Hudler back more than ever now.

Holland should go after Pahlsson and Neil

Yes please to both if it is possible. Neil for obvious reasons and I have always liked Pahlsson. I think Pahlsson could be a nice addition. We are losing a ton of goal scoring with Hossa leaving and possibly more if Sammy and Hudler go. It will be tough to find "replacements" with the amount of money the Red Wings have available. Pahlsson doesn't provide much offense, but he is an elite defensive forward. The Red Wings go back to focusing on defensive principles and winning games 2-1 instead of 5-4 during the regular season. Can you imagine Z, Datsyuk, Filppula, Franzen, Cleary, Helm, Draper and Pahlsson all on one team? Just my opinion, but that would be the best group of defensive forwards possibly ever assembled.

    Kopecky signs with the Blackhawks

Hell yeah. This is addition by subtraction.

    Kopecky signs with the Blackhawks

I love it. All that does is make the guys hungrier. Losing game 7 on home ice and now people saying the team is done because Hossa is gone. There couldn't be better motivation for the Red Wings going into next season. I am beyond excited to see the level of revenge and determination the Red Wings will have with the way guys like Z, Cleary, Lidstrom, and Ozzie compete. They should be bitter. Hopefully that translates into a stronger, more focused Red Wings team.

    Kopecky signs with the Blackhawks

I guess this is a pretty nice consolation for Hossa leaving. See ya Kopecky. I won't miss you for a second.

Report: Hossa turns down Wings' offer

This is just sickening. Hossa breaks more hearts than Megan Fox. ANY other team please Hossa.

Report: Hossa turns down Wings' offer

    You can't be serious.

Report: Hossa turns down Wings' offer

I would if he goes to Chicago.

Report: Hossa turns down Wings' offer

I would cheer for Hossa on ANY team but the Blackhawks. I would be so pissed if that rumor is true. Come on Hossa, 1961?

    Pistons fire Michael Curry!

I don't get it. I like it, but I can't grasp the timing. Basically Curry was Dumars' scapegoat through a season of rebuilding. If it worked (the Iverson trade), Joe D. looks brilliant for making the move and if it failed all the blame goes to Curry. Listen, I don't think Michael Curry is a very good coach. I hate the way he alienated and relegated Rip to the bench. I hate the fact he couldn't make adjustments in games when things clearly weren't going well. Honestly though, who the hell could have success coaching that group of players and egos? Curry was set up to fail by Dumars. As much as I like Joe D., I blame him far more for last season's failures than I ever will place on Curry. The core of this team is/was a bunch of headcases. Ben and Rasheed ran Flip out. I believe Rip is the primary factor in Curry leaving. Maybe we can finally just state the fact that the players need changing, not the coaches. The next head coach better not be Bill Laimbeer or Doug Collins. Avery Johnson should have been the coach last summer as it was. Anything other than Johnson or Van Gundy is a lateral move. I also don't understand the Ben Gordon rumors. If Curry is gone, what is the point of trading our best player? Gordon isn't an upgrade over Rip and it doesn't address the frontcourt issue. I think Gordon would help the Pistons in many ways. We need a pure scorer and a three point threat. I don't want him at the expense of Rip though. This is an interesting time for the Pistons. Joe Dumars has made a rash of bad personnel choices lately. 2004 is too long ago to keep using that as a barometer of Dumars as a GM. I feel bad for Curry, but hopefully this works out for the Pistons better than I anticipate it will.

Lets offer Draper and Maltby 5 year contracts!

You said that about Ozzie all season too.

    2009 Detroit Tigers Season Thread

I would never wish for someone to get injured, but I am thrilled Nate is gone! I watched Ni pitch for Toledo the other night and he has pretty good stuff. Lucas French started the game for the Mud Hens and he was just terrific. I realize that doesn't translate to success in the big leagues, but I think we can say Figaro probably needs more time to develop and we need to find another starting pitcher. If they are unwilling to move Miner back in the rotation and Galarraga doesn't turn it around, Dombrowski has to add a veteran starting pitcher at the deadline. It appears the Tigers also need Comerica Park to win. Good thing they have a lot of home games coming up after this road trip.

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

If Hossa leaves, the Red Wings have to keep Hudler. Unless Leino comes in during training camp and earns top six minutes, we have no other forward to fill Hossa's spot on the second line without retaining Hudler. I want Hudler back regardless but it becomes even more crucial if Hossa signs elsewhere. Datsyuk - Z - Cleary Franzen - Filppula - ? (Hudler)

    Chris Pronger traded to Philly

    Dan Cleary says hello.

Kopecky to test the open market

I hope some team is stupid enough to pay him more on the open market. The potential for both Sammy and Kopecky to leave: what a great off-season so far!

    Hossa wants 6million a year

I'd rather keep Fil as the second line center over Antropov.
  18. I am quite pleased with the Pistons draft selections. Daye has a ton of potential if he bulks up (read a comparision earlier to Rashard Lewis), although I am not sure we need another Tayshaun Prince so maybe Joe D. will hopefully trade the original this summer. The Pistons addressed their frontcourt in the draft which they absolutely had to do. I really wanted Teague at 15, but Daye plays a position of need so I understand the choice. Summers is a great pick in the second round. I am glad Budinger got traded away at 44, but I would have rather just taken Danny Green with the pick. Now comes the real moment of truth for Joe D. and the Pistons. Free agency is going to be busy for this team. I get no impression from Dumars that he is saving the cap space money for next summer. Get ready for Carlos Boozer in red, white, and blue.
  19. I like Lawson very much, but I would prefer the Pistons not draft him because I don't think his style of play meshes with the team right now. Lawson's biggest strength is his speed and ability to get to the basket. The Pistons hardly ever run or push the ball up the floor offensively. Lawson isn't a great jump shooter so how effective would he be as a half-court point guard? I think Flynn would be a terrific fit, but he won't get past the Suns at 14 if he even drops that far. The trade of Amir Johnson has almost convinced me the Pistons will address the frontcourt at 15. Right now we have one power forward/center signed for next year on the roster and that is Jason Maxiell. I believe Kwame Brown has an option, but big frickin deal if he does come back. I like the idea of Amare in a trade, but his complete lack of desire to play defense scares me. The Suns would want expiring contracts in exchange for Amare and the Pistons had those last season in Rasheed and AI so I think it will be tough to swing a deal with Phoenix now. My gut still says Carlos Boozer will be a Piston. I will be pretty satisfied with anything at pick 15 besides Mullens. The Pistons suck at developing big men.

    Samuelsson Selling His House?

There's no sugarcoating my reaction to Sammy likely leaving: Amen.
  21. Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen for Rip, Tayshaun and Stuckey? Great trade proposal Celtics - what are the Pistons, the new Timberwolves? I would take Prince for Allen in a heartbeat, but no thanks on giving up our two best players otherwise. This is a big draft on Thursday for Dumars. The Pistons need to start developing a younger, bigger, and stronger frontcourt. There are so many great point guards though it might be tough for the Pistons not to take one at 15. I would love Flynn (he won't drop that far) or Teague from Wake Forest. The one player I do not want whatsoever is Mullens. I would rather have Daye from Gonzaga if the Pistons go big at 15. I have a feeling the Pistons are going to get Boozer this summer as a free agent so that will provide instant help to the frontcourt. I want Chris Bosh here really bad, but that's risky waiting until next summer when he becomes a free agent and the Pistons end up with a ton of cap space and nothing to show for it if he signs elsewhere.

    2009 Detroit Tigers Season Thread

I would have thought someone was nuts if they told me before the season that the Tigers would pitch, but not hit, and Magglio Ordonez would be on the bench in June. The Tigers are still an aging, overpaid team at too many positions. Most of the massive contracts on the team are the worst performing players now (Robertson, Willis, Bonderman, Ordonez, Guillen). The best news is the Central Division sucks and the Tigers have three very good starting pitchers and a pretty adequate bullpen on most nights. Big homestand against the Brewers and Cubs. The Twins are going to make a run.
  23. I would love to have Komisarek or even Ohlund as part of the Red Wings defense. That's all wishful thinking though because the Red Wings aren't going to bring in any new players this summer. Hossa coming back would be a successful off-season if Kenny Holland can pull it off.

Why is Nate Robertson still on this team?
  25. GoWings1905

    Chris Pronger

Komisarek is a free agent this summer. The Red Wings couldn't sign him without dumping some major salary on defense. Although, I would love to see Komisarek on the Red Wings over Rafalski or Kronwall.
