I wonder if Samuelsson has been on the ice for every shorthanded goal the Red Wings have allowed this season. Put Stuart on the point please.

Thank You Aussie_Wing for taking the time to do this for us each week. Friday: Nashville @ Minnesota Columbus @ St Louis Calgary @ Edmonton Dallas @ Anaheim Saturday: Carolina @ New Jersey Philadelphia @ NY Islanders Chicago @ Detroit Vancouver @ Colorado Boston @ Buffalo San Jose @ Los Angeles Ottawa @ Toronto Pittsburgh @ Montreal Tampa Bay @ Atlanta Washington @ Florida Minnesota @ Columbus Anaheim @ Phoenix Edmonton @ Calgary Sunday: Detroit @ Chicago St Louis @ Colorado Boston @ NY Islanders NY Rangers @ Philadelphia

If the Red Wings match the Predators intensity, they'll win. In fact, I could probably type that in every GDT for the rest of the season and it would hold true. 4-1 Red Wings :octo:

4/8 GDT: Columbus Blue Jackets @ Chicago Blackhawks

Columbus Wins. It's really looking like the Ducks now in round one. -
The Sharks are always a threat during the regular season. I'll start giving them some credit when (if) they do something when it matters.
-
Actually, in reality, it's pretty damn impressive the Red Wings are even this close to the Sharks. The Sharks play in a very weak division where only one other team might make the playoffs and the Ducks just started playing well recently. The Red Wings play in the Central where four teams will likely make the playoffs and one other will just miss. Not to mention, the Sharks had a killer start to the season while the Red Wings were coming off a championship. I'm not really pointing this out to take away from the Sharks because they have been the best team pretty much all season, but more as a credit to the Red Wings. I don't know any team can beat the Red Wings four times when they show up and play their game. The champs control their own fate.

Sharks Win. Clap because the borefest is over.
-
I really hope Calgary loses the division. Should the Red Wings win the first round, I would much prefer the Canucks over the Flames in round two.
-
Buffalo has three games left. This Avs/Sharks game is boring. I have a feeling San Jose will blow it open in the third.
-
Good job DD. Everyone in the world knew the bullpen sucked and you signed Brandon Lyon. It's going to be a long season unless we get a miracle turnaround in pitching.
-
Is it fair to say we may have some pitching issues?

Well, at least the Tigers made it easier for me to watch the Red Wings tonight. 9-1 Jays and our ace gets rocked on Opening Day.

Osgood says he is ready to lead the team in the playoffs

The Clutterbuck goal was on Ozzie, but there was nothing Ozzie could have done with Gaborik's. I wouldn't call that goal a softie whatsoever. Since you missed the game and only pointed out the negatives on Ozzie, I would also like to throw out that Ozzie had some nice saves in the third period when the game was tied 2-2 and the Red Wings got turnover happy in their own zone. The save on Koivu was huge. So, yes, Ozzie made a mistake but he more than made up for it in the third period. Need I remind you that the Red Wings other goalie had his share of softies in the last game he started. Ozzie has been getting better lately and the only thing we can all do is hope that it carries over into the playoffs. -
Nope, I caught it. It was a mistake and Ozzie made up for it. When the Red Wings got turnover prone in the third period, Ozzie made some huge saves to bail them out. The team won, Ozzie played fine. What more do you exactly want?

Opening Day! I don't expect these Tigers to be any better than a .500 team, but having baseball back is always exciting. Maybe lower expectations will lead to some surprises for the Tigers. I just can't see how a team with so many questions mark on the pitching staff can seriously contend. Unless Verlander and Bonderman pitch like 2006, someone takes over the closer's role and Porcello/Perry become Verlander/Zumaya, the Tigers are going to struggle. One of the few bright spots might be Cabrera. I think he'll win the AL MVP this season. Go Tigers!

I agree with BlueMonk's post. The Red Wings have a very tough path in the Western Conference being the two seed. If everything went to plan, the Red Wings could play Anaheim and Calgary before a potential meeting with San Jose in the WCF. Meanwhile the Sharks could get the Predators/Blues and then Blackhawks/Canucks in the first two rounds. No playoff opponent is going to be easy, but I don't think playing two physical teams like the Ducks and Flames would bode well for the Red Wings should they even make it to the WCF. This looks like 2007 except flipping the Ducks for the Sharks. I don't want Anaheim in the first round. I would take Columbus, Nashville or St. Louis long before the Ducks because of travel purposes and the way the Ducks are playing right now.

You must have missed the save on Koivu when the game was tied 2-2. It's funny how the good things from Ozzie get overlooked but every mistake gets magnified.

Osgood says he is ready to lead the team in the playoffs
GoWings1905 replied to CenterIce's topic in General
What is more pressure than the playoffs? When it actually matters, Ozzie has always played his best hockey. 106 career playoff games, 2.11 GAA and .914 save percentage. Those don't look like numbers of a guy that can't carry the load in pressure situations. -
Same here. Not to mention the travel factor as well.
-
The Ducks are rolling into the playoffs playing great hockey. I'm not so sure I want the Red Wings to see them in the first round.

If you think the defense is fine, I really have nothing else to offer. If you actually read my post, I also said that neither goalie has played well enough for the Red Wings to win recently. Not Ozzie, nor Conklin. Yes, I am a fan of Ozzie. I am more of a fan though of the Red Wings and I think Ozzie gives the team the best chance to win, as does the coaching staff. Conklin has played worse than Ozzie lately, so if the defense isn't the problem like you claim, are you willing to admit Conklin might not be the answer either? The defense is bad, so are the goalies. Making Ozzie the scapegoat is the easy way out. EDIT: to add more excuses to enhance my love for Ozzie. -

Conklin has suffered for the same reasons Ozzie has ... the defense in front of them is poor and neither can make a timely save when it matters. Conklin's problem doesn't stem from Ozzie getting starts. Conklin had a chance to solidify the starter's role and his numbers have been worse than Ozzie's recently. The reason you made is just an excuse. Conklin has never been a consistent NHL starter and he has no playoff experience. Neither goalie has given the Red Wings a chance to win lately and unless the defense improves, I'm not sure it really matters who starts in goal. Ozzie has been there before and is the Red Wings best bet of repeating. If you think the Red Wings are doomed, I'm still not sure why you are wasting your time on the team. -

What is Cleary's connection to a thread about Ozzie? Oh, and at least Cleary actually played and won the championship last year. -

What's your solution then? Conklin has been worse than Ozzie of late and has no playoff experience. If you really think the Red Wings are done, why bother watching?
