Sickening. Why can't this team hold a lead?

So F'n predictable. Everytime the Red Wings get a lead, they spend the rest of the game killing penalties. I hate the NHL.

Z Three goals all in the same fashion. Now, here is where the Red Wings get a lead and the refs sentence them to the penalty box excessively.

Do Lilja and Lebda realize it's OK to not spend the whole shift in their own zone? at May, nice job there jackass.

Very true, good point. Look at the past couple games - it has been the same trend. The Red Wings get a lead against St. Louis, Atlanta, and Chicago in the third period and then they spend half of the third killing penalties consecutively (including the 5 on 3's that you mentioned). It's kind of like Ozzie mentioned earlier - it seems the officiating is dictated by the scoreboard.

That call on Lilja was weak. The officiating the past five games or so has been incredibly pathetic.

This is trouble.

You're right. That Stanley Cup Championship was no fun at all last season. Those damn Euros - I hate watching them win all the time. Edit: When did Meech and Lebda become European anyways?

This is quite possibly the dumbest thread ever. Are we talking about the same Dan Cleary? Ya know, the Dan Cleary that is the hardest working player on the team? I don't think the OP could give any concrete examples of the areas listed why he/she hates Cleary. I have never seen Cleary cherry pick, fail to pass, try to get fancy, or be a puck hog. However, I have watched Cleary score 20 goals, play solid defensively (particularly a few shifts this season on the PK), and work his ass off every time he steps on the ice. Sometimes I wonder if certain people on here even watch hockey.

Wow, not the easiest of schedules either to break the winless streak. I just can't see a team going 0-16 despite how pathetic the Lions are. They will steal a game at some point - I am going with the Minnesota home game in December.

Sammy has been great so far. The Red Wings really need him to keep producing points with Franzen injured. Sammy, Cleary, Huds, Filppula all need to step it up offensively.

If any school wants to ruin their football team quickly, the program wrecker himself, Tyrone Willingham is available. UM fans think rebuilding with Rodriguez is tough. Trust me, it could be so much worse.

Right or wrong, Quincey didn't have a choice. 13 games of experience doesn't compare much to what Lebda and Lilja have. Quincey had to outplay all of the other defenseman and he didn't prove enough (or anything) for the Red Wings to give him a roster spot. Quincey had to literally win the job and he couldn't. If Quincey was truly better, he would be with the Red Wings still.

Quincey was the worst defenseman at training camp. He had a chance to outplay Lebda, Lilja, Meech, and Ericsson. Quincey would have never stuck with the Red Wings. The sixth defenseman is just keeping Ericsson's seat warm.

Most of the players you listed don't deserve all the negativity they get, but Lebda doesn't fit that category. This isn't another trendy whipping boy scenario - Lebda has been brutal this season and there is no reason to keep dressing Lebda over Meech. I think this is a legitimate thread because Lebda has really been that bad.

I would pretty much agree that Lebda has a very strong case for the worst player in the NHL. If nothing else, Lebda has easily been the worst player on the Red Wings so far this season. The one thing Lebda is good for (speed) is hardly noticeable when Lebda spends most of his time turning the puck over and being out of position defensively. Lebda has been downright awful and there is no reason to keep playing Lebda over Meech, when Meech couldn't possibly be any worse. I didn't think it would come to this, but Chelios and Lilja is our best bet on the third pairing.

If Texas loses at some point (Texas Tech, Big 12 Championship Game), they still should easily be the best one-loss team in the country. I would think Alabama will lose to either LSU or to Georgia/Florida in the SEC Championship Game. Assuming Penn State runs the table, it's hard to imagine any scenario that Penn State/Texas isn't the national championship game. Are the voters willing to put a one-loss SEC team over an undefeated Big Ten team judging on the past two years? I think Penn State is a terrific football team, but I don't know if they are better than any of the potential one-loss teams in the Big 12 or SEC.

It is so good to have Lilja back tonight. Lebda and Meech were a disaster as a defensive pairing. That being said, Meech should be playing on the third pairing with Lilja now. Lebda has been awful and his turnovers are really excessive. I still don't know what Lebda provides that Meech doesn't. Lebda has been the worst player on the team to this point. I am hoping Kopecky will be the forward out tonight. I highly doubt Maltby is going to be scratched as long as he is with the Red Wings. I can't see Hudler being scratched either because it doesn't make sense to bump Kopecky or Maltby up to the third line in Hudler's spot. Kopecky hasn't done anything to warrant him being the 12th forward on a nightly basis.

I am sticking with what I said last week before the MSU/OSU game: it is Ohio State's conference to lose still. Therefore, Ohio State beats Penn State 34-31.
