Great Video of Game 2 Intro

So cool. Thanks for posting. While I watched it, I found another video showing the end of game five in 2002 against Carolina. Boy was that awesome. Lets hope we see it again soon.

    Game 2 Refs.

I thought it was a well-officiated game as well. Ask Penguins fans how they felt about it, and you'll get a different story. Quite honestly, officiating is all about perspective. It's fine when your team wins, and flawed when they don't. Joanette and Watson did do a nice job of controlling the cheap shots at the end though. I'm guessing we all won't be so cheery about the refs for games three and four. O'Halloran will be in for game three, plus Pittsburgh playing at home, plus the constant whining by Therrien and Crosby equals plenty of penalties for the Red Wings on the road.

    Ken Holland Was SMART!

Very flawed logic. You can use that "what if" scenario for anything. Of course people here would blame Holland if the Red Wings didn't advance this far, or if for some reason they fail to win it all. There are some people here STILL saying Holland didn't do enough, and the team is two wins away from a Stanley Cup. The coaching staff/management for the Red Wings is the best in hockey, hands down. Spending to the cap does not mean success. Ask the Ducks or Rangers how that worked out. We all should be extremely proud to be fans of a world-class organization that is successful every single year. I'm fine with people not agreeing with every personnel move, but give credit where it's due. Holland and Babcock assembled a championship calibre team.

    Ken Holland Was SMART!

Exactly. A subtle addition like Brad May for Anaheim last year, or Stuart with the Red Wings this season is sometimes better than any blockbuster type deal. It's all about addressing needs without taking on tons of salary, or risking your future for a rental. I'm still dying to hear what these few people would have liked the five million in cap room to be spent on. Holland obviously did quite well, as is usually the case.

    Ken Holland Was SMART!

Why spend the five million on something the Red Wings clearly don't need right now? They score goals, play flawless defense, and are way more physical than people give them credit for. I doubt the Ilitch family sees it as "wasted cash." They are two wins from a championship. What exactly are the Red Wings missing that five million dollars at the deadline could have been spent on? I don't see any reason to be complaining about cap room when the one need at the deadline (a top four defenseman) was addressed.

    Ken Holland Was SMART!

Marty Lapointe isn't better than anyone dressing for the Red Wings right now. Who would you like to see here, that would have helped the team out more, even considering they are two wins away from a championship? Holland knows what he is doing. Stuart was the perfect addition. Cue LeftWinger now to tell us how trading for Fedorov would have made Detroit 14-0 in the playoffs so far.

    Don't count out the pens

I don't think anyone has counted the Penguins out yet by any stretch, especially the guys playing the game. Maybe some people on here are slightly overconfident, but it's tough to blame them after such a convincing win in game one. I expect a much better effort from the Penguins tonight, and the Red Wings will have to match and/or better their intensity. Regardless, our cockiness level on LGW has no effect whatsoever on the series.

SCF Game 2 GDT: Red Wings 3, Penguins 0

Three wins to go! A repeat of game one would be fine by me. Go Ozzie & Red Wings! :octo: :usaflag: Thanks to all of our troops as well! :patriot:

Mule Unleashed: Franzen a GO for Game 2

So who comes out then if not McCarty?

POLL: Franzen In.Who Should Come Out?

McCarty. Great comeback story, but rather ineffective on the ice.

Mule Unleashed: Franzen a GO for Game 2

I would guess if Franzen is cleared to play, Babcock will use him in his typical role. Putting Mule back on the second line will be a nice addition to counter the Malkin line. Again, I don't know since I'm not on the medical staff, but if Franzen can play, you would assume the coaching staff would utilize him in normal fashion. As far as the lines go... Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Filppula-Franzen-Cleary Drake-Draper-Samuelsson (very solid line in game one) Maltby-Helm-Hudler

Mule Unleashed: Franzen a GO for Game 2

Absolutely. Franzen in, McCarty out, no question.

I don't even know where to start

One reason every fan hates the Red Wings: Their team isn't the Red Wings.
  14. GoWings1905

I formally apologize to Mikael Samuelsson

I'm sorry Sammy. I'll admit when the play of the first goal developed, I said "Oh God, here comes nothing." He's far from my favorite player, but he had a hell of a game last night.

O'Hallaran - Default call is 'interference'?

I want to know what the hell the penalty was for. Waving the goal off was a joke in the first place, but how does O'Halloran justify that as a penalty? Of the three goals waved off this season in which O'Halloran was a part of (Anaheim, Dallas, and last night), this was the worst of the three. I'd love to hear Bettman or another idiot from the league claim with a straight face that the goal would be disallowed against anyone not named Holmstrom. There is a double standard and it's downright disgusting. It's to the point now where I EXPECT this to happen to Holmstrom. I actually laughed when O'Halloran waved the goal off because it's so predictable. Whatever his grudge is against the Red Wings, he is doing a terrible job of covering it up. These are reputation calls against Homer, and the NHL wonders why nobody watches their garbage. I'd love to hear why O'Halloran was chosen to officiate the finals, other than the fact to screw the Red Wings. Sorry NHL, your plan failed miserably. Scoreboard.
  17. Let frickin down. Good thing the Red Wings were on at the same time.

SCF Game 1 GDT: Red Wings 4, Penguins 0

It's time. Four wins away from cup number 11. What a huge day for Detroit! Go Red Wings and Pistons!

    Trading the Hockeytown title

Didn't Minnesota already "steal" the title from us anyways? Oh that's right, I suppose you would have to be good at hockey to be called Hockeytown.
  20. The Pistons were awesome last night. Every single one of them. Their composure on the road in big games is remarkable. That's the difference to me in this series right now: the Pistons have proven they can go on the road and get wins, regardless of opponent, or round of the playoffs. The Celtics are 0-6 against the Hawks and Cavs, who both aren't anywhere near the quality of team that the Pistons are. The Palace is a TOUGH building to win at year round, and I can't imagine Boston feels good about their chances stealing one in Detroit. The Pistons are in a great position, and they need to take advantage of that in game three. I'm extremely proud of the effort last night. The Pistons were focused, and this is now their series to lose. The Palace will be nuts for the next two games. Sad thing is, it will blow JLA out of the water in atmosphere and the Wings are playing for it all. The environment is incredible at the Palace, one aspect the Pistons definitely have on the Red Wings.

    McCarty vs Downey

Hopefully neither, meaning Franzen plays on Saturday night. Mac is a wonderful comeback story, but he was awful for most of the Dallas series.

On Ice Officials named for the finals

O'Halloran over McCreary? Boy NHL, keep up the good work of never getting anything right.

    Wings/Pistons schedule conflict

I'm actually very upset about the scheduling. I'll be watching the Red Wings of course, but I am not happy a single bit about missing the Pistons game. There may not be many people on here that upset about it, but I'm guessing there are plenty of fans from both teams that aren't too pleased they have to choose between two huge games.

MULE REPORT: Franzen Cleared to Practice

Good news on two fronts. We'll need Franzen back at some point to win the series. One line isn't going to cut it against the Penguins. Not only that, the second power play unit gets a huge boost with Mule back as well. I'm happy for Cleary. I know that cage had to be affecting his game. I'm going to remember all the people on here that gave Cleary a hard time saying the injury wasn't an excuse.
  25. Rasheed needs to be much, much better or the Pistons are done. Garnett is an elite player, but 'Sheed got abused by KG on both ends of the floor last night. McDyess, as always, showed up to play. 'Dyess definitely has the most heart of anyone on the team. It's pretty evident Billups is still hurt, or Flip is even dumber than I thought. There's no way Chauncey sits in a reasonably close game until six minutes left unless something is wrong. The good side to all of this is the Pistons played pretty poorly as a team in game one, and were in the game the whole way. I think they can steal one on Thursday.
