    2008 Detroit Tigers Season Thread

I am stunned. This no longer classifies as just a fluke start. The Tigers can't hit, field, pitch, or even run the bases. Losing is one thing, but not even showing up is another. I realize it is still early in the season, but 0-7 is unacceptable. The American League is too competitive, and every game is digging a bigger hole that the Tigers may not be able to climb out from. I am partially disgusted, but a part of me doesn't even believe this whole 0-7 mess is even real. Somebody please hit the ball soon...

Well, I would hope Clete Thomas would be focused. Considering his big league days are numbered until Granderson gets back, it is to be expected that he would be playing hard.

If the Tigers play like this, no chance they win a game in Boston. * This is sickening, getting beat 13-2 now. Not only are the Tigers losing, they are being embarrassed. I just don't see mental focus from any player not named Inge. Having talent and a 138 million dollar payroll isn't good enough to just show up and win games.

    Playoff Matchups Set

The only thing I really hope for (besides the Red Wings winning) is that Colorado beats Minnesota, so the Sharks and Ducks have to play in the second round. Going through both Anaheim and possibly San Jose would be very tough, as we witnessed last season. Then again, IMO the Calgary Flames have a very good chance at knocking out the Sharks in the first round. I am by no means sold on the Sharks like all of the "experts". Should be a terrific opening round of playoff hockey.

    Colorado

The Avalanche need one point, because they own the tiebreaker (wins) over the Flames. I really want the Flames to get the 7th seed, because they have a realistic chance of beating the Sharks. * 3-3 in the shootout. The Western Conference match-ups are set.

    4/6 GDT: Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 1

Good game Red Wings! The Hudler/Helm/Mac line was terrific today. Congrats to Dom and Ozzie for the Jennings Trophy, and the whole team for another remarkable regular season. Now the real games start. These next four days will go by incredibly slow...

Don't care about the outcome. No injuries please! Keep Z, Datsyuk, Nick, and Cleary off the ice as much as possible. I also read somewhere Rafalski won't play tomorrow, just to rest. The best part of this game will be watching Pierre McGuire tear the Red Wings to shreds, with his infamous cliches. They are so off-base and false, it is laughable now. Go Red Wings! Please stay healthy...

    2008 Detroit Tigers Season Thread

The Tigers really need a win tomorrow night, to say the least. I don't want to see this team going to Boston with an 0-6 record. The "fluke" start could turn real ugly if it comes to that point. Lets all hope this is the Tigers slump for the season. Better to get it out of the way now, as opposed to post All-Star Game like last year. Leyland is probably smoking three packs per day after these first five games.

Boston v. Ottawa, Nashville v. Chicago

Chicago is still ahead, about at the half-way point. I can hear the "Ha-sek" chants already in Nashville. Mind you the Red Wings will be winning by five goals when the fans break it out. Oh yes, "Red Wings Suck" too, which always cracks me up from a franchise that has never won a playoff series. I can't wait until Thursday night.

Why the hell is Jason Grilli on the Tigers roster still? Does the guy ever have an appearance where he doesn't give up at least a run? Here is the first of many games the Tigers bullpen will blow this season. * Way to go Grilli, five straight players with a hit now. I want to get paid millions of dollars to throw batting practice.

4/1 : the NHL on Versus

All of the wins against the Canucks were by one goal. That is proof alone what Luongo is capable of doing in a playoff series. Why are you bringing up stats for one week anyways? You can't possibly be arguing Dan Ellis would be a tougher goalie than Luongo right?

4/1 : the NHL on Versus

For starters, eight games against Nashville and only four with the Canucks is comparing oranges and apples. Besides, the regular season and playoffs are two completely different stories. Defense and goaltending win games in April and May. Vancouver certainly has goaltending, and a pretty solid defense. Nashville has no playoff experience in goal, although their defensive unit is pretty strong. I'll take the Wings chances with Dan Ellis.

4/1 : the NHL on Versus

All the more reason to want to play Nashville and knock them out of the playoffs again. If you really would rather face Roberto Luongo than Dan Ellis, there is a good chance we aren't the misguided ones in that case. * Nashville wins! 89 points and back to 8th place. Now we need a Canucks loss in regulation.

Bochenski, Tootoo, and Fiddler with the Nashville goals tonight. Very strange, but I will definitely take it. Go get the win now Preds.

4/1 : the NHL on Versus

Come on Nashville. For once, I want that sorry team to win and they are losing to the Blues. I really do not want to see Luongo in the first round, or start times at 10:30.

4/1 : the NHL on Versus

I would venture to say that without Roberto Luongo, the Canucks do not beat Dallas in the first round last season. When Marty Turco played his best series ever, and Luongo was still better, that would classify as stealing the series.

4/1 : the NHL on Versus

As good as Dan Ellis has been lately, there is absolutely no way I would rather see Roberto Luongo over Ellis during the playoffs. Luongo can literally steal a series, or at the minimum give Vancouver a chance to win every game. I don't think Ellis has put himself at that level yet.

    3/25 GDT: Red Wings 2, Blues 1

I hope the Red Wings make it through this game with no injuries. It's pretty clear the Blues aren't too concerned with winning, just causing scrums and altercations instead. I really wish Downey would punch Jackman in the face.

Since Notre Dame is out, I will be rooting for UCLA. The Bruins seem to have destiny on their side with so many close-calls and breaks going their way this season. Plus they are a treat to watch on the floor. Collison, Westbrook, Love, Shipp, Mbah a Moute are all special players in their own regard. Multiple offensive weapons, and a very sound defensive team as a whole. Not to mention, most of the guys on the team have tourney experience from the previous two years. The West Region, on paper, should be relatively easy for UCLA to get through to the Final Four. Hopefully the Bruins can finish the deal this season, and make Arron Afflalo proud.
