Quick question, with probably no logical answer: Why is Samuelsson still on the point for the second power-play unit instead of Brad Stuart?

I listen to HNIC on Sirius as well. If you listened solely to them for hockey news, you would think the Red Wings were in last place, not first overall in the standings. Oh well, I guess it makes it even sweeter when the Red Wings prove them wrong. I'm thinking this will be a statement game for the Wings tonight. Despite the injuries, they will come out and play at a high level. Red Wings - 5 (Filppula, Lidstrom, Mule, Kronwall, and Z) Stars - 1 (It really won't matter)

Awesome article! Fair to say, no one will ever doubt Dan Cleary's work ethic again. I can't wait to see him back on the ice for the Red Wings.

I thought Z played one of his best games last night, even though the score sheet may not reflect that. He made two unreal passes to Franzen that resulted in good chances. I told my dad during the game that you never see an opponent steal the puck from Zetterberg. He has to be one of the best in the NHL at protecting the puck. It's amazing to watch how he can completely dominate a game when he comes on the ice. As far as the back goes, nothing in Henrik's play has led me to believe the back is bothering him. If it is acting up, it isn't obvious from my perspective. I am concerned that this could be a lingering injury that will hurt him in the future. Back injuries are no fun, and they hardly ever completely go away.

What value does Drake exactly have? Besides killing penalties, which most of the forwards on the team are capable of doing anyways. Regardless, I never said anything to the degree of what I thought Mac could provide to the team. It's an amazing comeback story, whether it be for the money or not, like you seem to believe. Thanks for your remarkable insight to the situation.

I can only hope it's Dallas Drake.
-
Welcome back Darren! I really hope to see Mac on Sunday, but I'm guessing the Tuesday game is more likely. Everything is falling into place now for the Red Wings.

Since October 14th, 2006, Magglio Ordonez is the face of the Detroit Tigers. Inge can play ball all he wants, but it sure as hell won't be as the starting third baseman for the Tigers. Quit whining Brandon, and learn how to hit the ball if you want to play.
-
I agree Lou. Raburn can actually hit too, which makes him way more valuable than Inge. I really hope Raburn finds a spot on the opening day roster. Inge needs to shut up, and be thankful he got paid 24 million dollars to be a defensive-only starting third baseman. It will be weird to see actual production at the plate from third base this season.
-
LMAO - did Inge really say that? What "hitting" is he referring to? I suppose the 2000 strikeouts could classify as trying to hit. I never liked Brandon Inge, so him sitting the bench is a treat in itself, but if his whiny rhetoric affects the team, then his ass needs to get shipped out of town. DD is very restricted on the trade options for Inge though. Other GM's know Inge is trade-bait and that instantly lowers his value, not to mention the massive contract Inge somehow carries. There will be little value coming back in return should the Tigers be able to swing a deal with Inge involved. Four weeks until Opening Day on the bright side!

I was sitting in the upper bowl, at the opposite end of the ice at the game last night and I could even tell from that distance the puck had hit the protective netting. Is it even possible that eight eyes at ice level could not see it? Un-freaking believable. The Red Wings lost two games in February, solely thanks to the officiating (or lack thereof). No wonder most people don't give a s*** about hockey. This league is a joke.

First time in my life that college has ever been closed for the day (snow) and it happens on trade deadline day. Couldn't ask for a better scenario! Brad Stuart - go get him Kenny! Oh, and of course Hossa too.
-
The sad thing right now for the Red Wings is all of our potential trade bait (Filppula, Hudler, Kopecky, Franzen) are performing awful at the moment. If prospects like Ericsson, Kindl, and Howard are really "untouchables", what does Detroit have to offer that would entice teams enough for players like Sundin/Hossa that have high price tags? I want Hossa here more than anything on Tuesday, but I am not sure Ken Holland can put the best offer on the table to Atlanta. Something has to give if the Red Wings want to make a serious run in the playoffs.
-
We need Marian Hossa ASAP.

13 goals in 55 games to be exact. I agree, nothing spectacular. However, didn't Pavel Datsyuk have this same "problem" as well? Nobody questions Pav anymore, and I'm pretty sure Hossa would turn out the same.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that if, God forbid, the Red Wings lose to Calgary, you will be here blaming world hunger on Chris Osgood.
-
I agree with you that the Avalanche are a dangerous team, when healthy. However, I must point out that the Red Wings spanked the Avs last night (all season, for that matter) and the Wings are not healthy by any stretch right now. The Avalanche are good when healthy, the Red Wings are downright scary.
-
I would rather the Red Wings salute us fans by skating around the ice in June with the Stanley Cup. Just a thought...

I heard an interview on 97.1 "The Ticket" on Monday with a guy from the Tigers front-office, and according to him, Opening Day is completely sold-out already. It didn't sound like there would be any tickets available on March 1st to the public. People who purchase(d) a season-ticket plan of 81, or 27 games are getting an extra Red Sox/Yankees game in their plan, as opposed to tickets on Opening Day.
