Ughh ... This team is so frustrating to watch. That spark from last season is completely gone. As good as the offense is, the pitching makes up for it and then some by being so pathetic. Even if the Tigers somehow make the playoffs, they are going nowhere if the pitching continues like it is now. The Indians, Yankees, Red Sox, and Angels all have far superior pitching to the Tigers at this point. By the way, Brandon Inge is a complete waste at the plate. Honestly, he has the same numbers as Monroe, plus about 2000 strikeouts to boot. I don't understand why Inge gets a free pass constantly for his horrid batting. All Inge does is strikeout, and always leave runners stranded in scoring position. Sounds like someone the Tigers just released. I can't believe our number nine hitter can't lay down a lousy sacrifice bunt. Brandon Inge is like Tayshaun Prince to me - I can't figure out what all the hype is about. Maybe I'm supposed to overlook the strikeout every at bat, because of his spectacular glove. Well despite all my gloom, I'm holding out hope that a turn around is near, although I've been waiting for over a month now. Maybe getting Zoom and Pauly back will bring that spark to the team. This homestand is literally the season. We're going to see which Tigers team this really is. Please beat the Indians and Yankees!

Four Reasons why the Red Wings will win the Central Division: 1. Nashville 2. St. Louis 3. Chicago 4. Columbus

Colorado improved this offseason as well. Remember they only missed the playoffs by a point, and were probably the best team in the West for the latter portion of last season. Not to mention the Avalanche added Ryan Smyth and Scott Hannan, two very impressive additions. The Avs have a solid mix of veterans and promising young players, such as Stastny, Wolski, and Richardson. The problem is the Avalanche probably won't have an inflated point total due to playing in the tough Northwest Division. However, I do expect the Avs to be one of the four teams from that division to make the playoffs next season. The given will be that the Avalanche score a lot of goals. Depending on how their goaltending and defense performs, the Avalanche should contend for the division title.

We'll see during the season how long it takes for a Charlie Weis weight joke or a comment on the bowl losing streak. Those two are classics.

Make or break time for sure. 13 straight games against the Indians and Yankees. Honestly, the Tigers better win the Central Division because the loser of the East is going to get the wild card. Thankfully, the Indians have been just as bad lately as the Tigers. By the way, Zoom threw in Toledo last night and hit 94 on the gun. The report is he should be back to pitch for the Tigers at the start of the next homestand.

I promise you won't see that from me. I tend to be pretty objective when it comes to Notre Dame. I don't expect a whole lot from them this year honestly, but I will be rooting for them just as hard as ever. Hopefully, they'll surprise everyone, similar to 2002. Good luck to your Wolverines.
-
I love Notre Dame, as evidenced by my other posts in this thread. I have no problem with people "ripping on" Notre Dame. I've heard it all before. I'm sure the originality is just as brilliant here. I won't hold anything against you though Manny for saying that, since we both love the Pistons.

I'm losing hope and quickly. I've never seen a worse bullpen in my life. There is not one guy in there that I have any faith in whatsoever. Even if Zumaya comes back healthy, he can't pitch every inning in relief. I agree with everyone else that something different needs to be tried. I think even Leyland knows this team is in big trouble. Hindsight is 20/20, but boy it sure looks like a deadline deal would have been the right move now. They have to finish this series against Oakland well to generate some momentum for the Indians and Yankees. If not, we can kiss the playoffs goodbye.

That groin seemed to be OK when Dom won 38 games and had a GAA of two last season.
-
Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays spank the Tigers two days in a row. As much bashing as the bullpen takes (rightfully so), the starting pitching is a trainwreck now too. The Rays could have easily won all four games in that series. I hate to say it but starting next Tuesday, the following two weeks will make or break the Tigers season. 13 straight games against the Yankees and Indians should determine whether this team makes the playoffs or not. There becomes a point when an extended losing streak becomes more than just a slump. The Tigers are dangerously approaching that line. I don't want to panic quite yet, but this season is falling apart and quickly. I keep waiting for the old Tigers to come back, but it still hasn't happened. Please turn it around soon Tigers!

Let me try to get this straight. The NHL should contract one of the few successful hockey markets it has in the United States because they don't excite you? As KP mentioned earlier in the thread, Minnesota is THE state for hockey in the country. Since the Wild have returned to play in Minnesota, they have sold out every single game. If we removed every team that was "boring" from the NHL, there would be about three teams left.
-
Just curious, but why would you suggest Minnesota?

Mike Fisher, Jordan Leopold, Sami Pahlsson

I'm hoping and assuming that was sarcasm right?
-
Yes. Thank you. I thought it was just me, but the red does look different.
-
Thanks for posting this. I like the "new" uniforms very much. Now, all we need is to see the players in them. * After looking at them a second time, the shade of red looks different to me. It doesn't seem as dark of red as usual for some reason. Just something that caught my eye.
-
Yes! Finally, something to cheer about. Thank you Tigers for ending my misery for at least tonight.
-
That's fine. However, saying the Tigers suck is a bit off. They are the defending AL champs, and are practically in first place still, while playing the toughest schedule in baseball to date. I know a lot of teams that wouldn't mind "sucking" if those standards define it.
-
Lay off them man. It's a 162 game season. Streaks like this happen to the best of teams. It's a rough stretch right now, but please don't come around and celebrate when they start winning again. We can do without fans like that.
-
If Markov doesn't lower his demands soon, he can jump on a plane with Alexei Yashin and go to Russia. Markov has never been, is not, and will never be worth anything more than three million per season. Even three million is a stretch if you ask me. I don't know why everyone wants Markov back so much anyways. I'd be just as happy with Lilja, Quincey, or Meech honestly. If Danny Markov thinks he deserves four million dollars per season, those aren't cigarettes he is smoking during intermission.

I wish it did go through Detroit, but the Ducks have what the Red Wings want. All excuses aside, the team to beat in the Western Conference is Anaheim, until someone proves that otherwise. Hopefully, the Red Wings can finish them off next season.
-
Agreed. Unless a reliever is involved, I don't really have any desire to see Jack Wilson come here anymore. Omar Infante is fine with me, and we get don't have to give up anything to get him. Off topic slightly, but I read that the Nationals would have sent Cordero to the Tigers for Trahern and Jurrjens at the deadline. I'm not real familiar with either of those two, but it seems like a pretty decent deal. I'm just curious if anyone thinks that would have been too much to give up for Cordero.
-
I like it. Anyone that puts Michigan into place is good in my book.
-
You are right - Dustin Penner is NOT worth four million dollars at this point. Nobody is disputing that. My argument was more along the lines, that say for instance the Ducks got Penner back for a more reasonable contract - would you still label him lazy? I doubt it. By the way, you defending 15,000 people at a victory parade is pathetic. That's the biggest joke I have ever heard. It's not a popularity contest, it just proves how relevant hockey is in Anaheim. The Red Wings get 15,000 people at pre-season games.
-
If you wish, I suppose I could. That's great that you got to meet Penner and all, but I guarantee if he came back to your Ducks, there is NO way you call him lazy or another Lupul-type player. My point was that just because Penner changed uniforms, he suddenly became useless. I'm glad you are enjoying the Stanley Cup, and are not bitter about Penner. It must hurt you a little though that there are more people on LGW right now than there were at the Ducks victory parade.
