    2007 College Football Season Talk

Regarding this topic, "College Football Live" on ESPN had a segment discussing the Big Ten today. The schools mentioned earlier in this thread, such as Rutgers, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse were all brought up as well on ESPN. The ever-intelligent Mark May suggested Colorado , further proving that he is a complete moron. Colorado is nowhere near any of the Big Ten schools. Nice suggestion Mark. Maybe the Big East can expand, and try to get USC to join. I honestly think the most logical choices are either Pittsburgh or Iowa State. Adding a school on the east coast is probably the most appealing to the Big Ten though in terms of expanding their region and fan base, especially with the creation of their own TV network.

    2007 Baseball Season

Thanks. I wasn't aware of that. Is that due to Gagne's demands to remain a closer if he is traded? If so, I'm not sure why the Tigers wouldn't allow Gagne to take over for Jones. Anyways, tough start for Nate again.

I'm all for Farnsworth coming back. My first choice is still Gagne, but it doesn't look like the Rangers will trade him. At this point though, I will honestly be happy with any addition to the bullpen.

    2007 College Football Season Talk

Article Jim Harbaugh, coach of Stanford and former Michigan QB, says USC is the best team .........in college football history. I personally don't see it compared to the powerhouse teams of past and/or too early to call them the best ever but curious to know what your opinion is. Even though it is extremely early, I think Harbaugh has a very valid argument. The defense that USC has going into this season should be purely dominant. The offense could probably get away with 14 points most games, and still win. I believe Pete Carroll has even referred to this unit as his best defensive group at USC. Although recently USC teams have been defined by their high-octane offense, this year's version will be led by their outstanding defense. Needless to say, their offense won't be too bad either. JD Booty will probably be a Heisman Trophy candidate, they have five running backs that would all start at most other schools, and Patrick Turner should replace Dwayne Jarret's production at receiver. They also have one of the best tight-ends, Fred Davis, in all of college football. I can't imagine what Marc Tyler and Joe McKnight on the field together is going to be like. The two highest rated running back recruits in the country, in the same backfield. The only problem I can see for USC is most of their "tough" games are on the road. Not that it will really matter where they play. They are easily the best team in college football, and I would be shocked if they lost a game.

I can tell you one school that it will not be ... Notre Dame.

    Michael Peca remains unsigned

I like Peca as a player, but there is no reason the Red Wings should sign him. At this point in his career, with all of the injuries, Peca is basically a penalty kill specialist. He also provides some experience, but the Wings aren't really lacking in that department. Once again, a decent player, but Peca doesn't fill that top six forward role that the Red Wings need. As was mentioned by everyone else, we have plenty of third and fourth line players on the team already. Although it was dismissed for some reason earlier in the thread, I still expect Peca to go back to Buffalo.

Ray Whitney wore number 41 with the Red Wings.

    2007 Baseball Season

Wow. Nice performance from the bullpen. Blowing a 7-1 lead to the worst offense in the American League. A move HAS to be made at the trade deadline. This team will go nowhere in the playoffs (provided they make it) with the current situation they have in the bullpen. The Tigers had a chance to add some distance from the Indians by playing the Royals and White Sox, and their bullpen ruins it, as always. Sorry for the rant, but this is really frustrating. The Tigers bullpen makes me sick.

Filppula also had number 41 with the Red Wings before this past season.

Hasek: A Man With Unfinished Business

Wow. I think Ozzie deserves a bit more credit than you have given him. Average goalies do not win Stanley Cups, regardless of how great the team in front of them is. Average goalies, like Legace, get you knocked out in the first round. While I agree that Osgood did not carry the team, he was certainly an integral part of the Red Wings success over the past 15 seasons. The only bad thing I will ever use against Ozzie is his knack for giving up bad goals. Check out the record books in Red Wings history, and you'll see Ozzie's name near the top in every category. Besides, an organization couldn't ask for a better guy than Chris Osgood. His loyalty to the Red Wings and the city of Detroit is second-to-none. Chris Osgood is not an average goalie. Ozzie earned his championship, just as much as Vernon and Hasek did.

    Good read

Wow. Chelios gets more work done by breakfast than most people do in a week. If I have half the mental capacity and work ethic that Chelios has at age 45, I will be thrilled. It's one thing to play a professional sport at age 45, and another to do it at a high level like Cheli does every season. I mean how many 45-year olds could play around 20-25 minutes per game of playoff hockey? Chris Chelios is amazing.

    Marleau for Redden?

Good proposed deal for both teams. Although, I would say it favors San Jose slightly because Redden fills a bigger need for the Sharks than Marleau would for Ottawa. After Souray took so long to sign, I thought he would end up in San Jose. They have a crop of talented young defensemen, but a veteran presence like Redden would really be a huge asset. People are down on Marleau from his poor playoff performance, but his offensive prowess is hard to overlook. Alfredsson broke out of his playoff "slump" with the Senators this past year, so I'm sure Marleau is capable of doing the same. Ottawa would have some serious offensive firepower if they added Marleau.

    Words between Bowman and crawford

I'm reading "Blood Feud" right now and it has been great so far. I was expecting the worse when I saw that Woody Paige had contributed to it, but it's actually a terrific trip down memory lane from the glory days of the rivalry. Good read for both Wings and Avs fans alike.

    Jimmy Howard

Oh, I agree with you completely. I hope Howard turns out to be the goalie of the future for the Red Wings. I was just making the point that Ozzie had a pretty good career coming up with Detroit.

Ozzie turned out to do pretty well for the Red Wings.

    Chris Simon re-signs with Islanders

Ha. Considering McLennan played about 30 seconds, it didn't leave him a whole lot of time to go after Lilja. Poor Mule.

    Chris Simon re-signs with Islanders

QUOTE(skacore @ July 22, 2007 - 12:05PM) Don't expect a response. I don't think this guy has ever made any suggestions or given his opinion on a line up or players, he just trolls through threads looking for posts to pick apart, looooooser Interesting opinion. Does anyone else agree with it? I, for one, don't agree. You come across as very knowledgeable and your posts on here are always worthwhile. I wouldn't be too concerned with someone that spells loser with 12 o's.

    Brian Rafalski = Larry Murphy?

I don't think Murph is an idiot, he just has trouble articulating his thoughts from a broadcaster's standpoint. Murphy knows a lot about the game, but it doesn't always come across as that when he is on the air. Besides, it's tough to fill the shoes of Mickey Redmond as a color commentator. I will say that Murph was a better player than announcer though for sure.

    Chris Simon re-signs with Islanders

Damn. What a missed opportunity. Simon is just what the Red Wings needed - another third or fourth line player. Come on Kenny, get with it.

Favourite Moment of the 06/07 Regular Season?

The best moment was Steve Yzerman's retirement ceremony. As far as the best actual play, Datsyuk's goal against Dallas, after that pass between the legs from Zetterberg. Sick.

    2007 Baseball Season

I don't understand the Dontrelle Willis rumors. Starting pitching is not the Tigers problem. Tonight's game should be solid evidence that the bullpen needs some serious help. I like Jones, but Gagne would be a major upgrade (if healthy) at closer. Dave Dombrowski will be making some move for a reliever by the deadline. He's smart enough to realize how good this team is, and how the bullpen should not be jeopardizing that every game. There is no way the Tigers don't make a move at the deadline. Anyways, nice win tonight, despite the bullpen woes again. to Inge!

    Michael Vick

Starting at quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons ... Joey Harrington. I honestly hope Vick goes to prison. What he did to those dogs is beyond cruel. Anyone that relies on dog fighting for enjoyment needs to find something to do with their time. I was almost sick when they described some of the treatment those dogs received, after going through the fights. There is no defending Michael Vick. Marcus Vick looks like a saint now compared to his brother.

    The "Sports Leader" killing hockey?

ESPN is not responsible for the "demise" of hockey. If anyone can be blamed for the killing of hockey, that would rest solely on Gary Bettman.

Wings interested in Forsberg, Selanne, Markov

I wouldn't mind seeing Selanne come here, but it isn't happening. There's no way he leaves Anaheim for another team. It's either the Ducks or retirement for Teemu. It would be sweet revenge in a sense to pay the Ducks back for Schneids and Bert, but Teemu is going to retire as a champion. Sadly, I think Forsberg probably stands the best chance of playing for the Red Wings. You can't argue with Forsberg's career production, but signing a guy that will probably play in half of the games (best case scenario) wiill not solve the top six forward problem. I'd stay away from Forsberg. As for Markov, I can't see him coming back unless he lowers his contract demands. Somebody is dumb enough out there to pay Markov more than his value (Islanders). Markov would be nice, but not necessary.
