What does Mikael Samuelsson bring to the table?

Let me sum this up the best way I know how .... nothing.

SI.com's Allan Muir - Wings deserved to win game 2

That wasn't the Red Wings exhausting themselves yesterday, that was hard work and skating that paid off. Maybe you aren't used to it judging by your team's strategy to score a couple of goals and then no longer forecheck by sticking four guys back on the blueline. Expect more of this "exhaustion" from the Red Wings for the remainder of the series. Call it as you wish, but most people would say it was hard work and a desire to win.

    Detroit vs. San Jose

This will be a long series either way - Good Guys in seven!

Should Sergei Fedorov's number be retired in the future?

Fedorov - No Lidstrom - Yes

    stupid fans

Most of the time the booing stems from jealousy that the player is not on your team. That's the only logical solution I see as to why Buffalo fans would do this to Jagr.

    A Little Perspective

Very nice post, I could not agree with you more. Hockey really is just a stupid game when you look at the big picture. I have a world of respect for those that have, are, and will serve this country. It is people like them that allow us to enjoy our many freedoms, like watching the Red Wings.

    Filppula, second line center?

I would still prefer either Mule or Bertuzzi up on the first line with Hank and Datsyuk as opposed to Calder. However, less ice time for Lang and more for Filppula is a good thing no matter how you look at.

Holmstrom: Out until at least Game 4

Well this is some great news. The Red Wings just can't seem to get completely healthy at any point this season. Get Well Soon Homer!

    Again With The Trap...

First off, I thought the "new" NHL was supposed to prevent or eliminate using the trap. It's a shame that the trap becomes most common at a time when the games are the most important. It makes games boring and takes away the excitement of playoff hockey. That being said, props to San Jose for doing what they had to do to win the game. I take nothing away from them, because if you have to trap to win, then do it. With the skill level of the guys in red, if they can't figure out a way to beat the trap, then more power to the Sharks. Lets hope for a better showing and result in Game 2 - Go Red Wings!

Brian Rolston on Wings Sharks Series

At least the Red Wings have numbers in the rafters...

Brian Rolston on Wings Sharks Series

You sure talk a lot of smack for a team that has never won anything, and especially in a series that hasn't even started yet. Funny thing is, you always whine when people call you out on it, considering you are on a RED WINGS board. I guarantee if Brian Rolston had said Red Wings in seven, you would call him an idiot. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Brian Rolston does not determine the winner of this series.

    Mike Babcock

Me too, but I was just saying there will be some over-reaction here like always if they lose.

    Mike Babcock

I am a huge fan of Mike Babcock and his coaching style too, but if the Red Wings lose tonight, at about 10:30 there will be threads on here demanding he be fired and that his lines suck. Let's hope this is not a issue. Go Red Wings!
  15. 1. This series will go more than five games either way. 2. You are on a Red Wings board, what do you expect?

Convince me why I shouldn't be dreading this series....

I guess I don't understand why anyone would "dread" this series or any for that matter. It's playoff hockey, sure it's intense, but it's also the best and most fun time of the year. I understand being nervous or worried that the Red Wings might not win, but if you dread it, that means you aren't even looking forward to it at all. Have some faith in this team, and even Babcock said the playoffs are all about having fun, so enjoy it!

Viewing - Time to suck it up!

I would watch the Red Wings anytime or anyplace, regardless of the circumstances or future consequences. I can go to work or school anytime, but how many chances in a lifetime can you watch your team have a legit chance at winning it all? Go Wings!

    Luc Robitaille picking Sharks!

I personally always liked Luc, both as a Red Wing, and elsewhere. However, I care about who he picks in the playoffs about as much as I do who that stupid monkey Maggie picks. Although, I guess you could argue that former players should/do know best when it comes to these matters, but Brett Hull ruins that theory.

    ESPN Picks

Actually, that was my point that I don't care who the ESPN writers pick. Them picking against the Red Wings does not concern me in the least. The only difference between any of them and us is they get paid to make their picks. If you hold ESPN hockey writers to such a high standard, that is the concerning part.

    ESPN Picks

There are plenty of people here on LGW that know more about hockey and have more credibility than hockey writers from ESPN. If the world thinks San Jose is going to beat the Red Wings, that's fine. I don't care what anyone says about the Red Wings, because I have faith they will prove the doubters wrong.

Official LGW Playoff Picks Game: Round 2

Thanks NFM for your time, this is a fun game. Here are my picks for Round Two... DET/SJ - *Detroit in seven* ANA/VAN - *Anaheim in five* BUF/NYR - *Buffalo in five* NJD/OTT - *Ottawa in six*

    Official LGW Playoff Picks Game

I feel so conflicted right now. In order to stay in first, I need the Canucks to win. However, if I want what is likely best for the Red Wings, it would be better if the Stars won Game 7. I guess I will root for the best interest of the Red Wings.

The Joe is the toughest building to play in

I would say the Joe is the toughest building to play in for opponents because of the team they have to face on the ice.

Lidstrom played unusually bad in game 3

Please, the Red Wings would be the 8th seed without Nick Lidstrom. I thought he was very good again last night, and the Iginla goal was just an unfortunate break for Nick. I directly remember a play where Iginla had a two-on-two and ever so casually, Lidstrom poke-checked and swiped the puck away with no harm done. There's a reason Iginla has one goal in 14 games against the Wings, and that reason is #5. It's unfortunate, but we are all guilty of expecting the world every night from Nick. Was it Nick's best game? No. However, his off nights are better than 95% of other players good nights.

    Robert Lang

It's pretty sad, but I'm at the point now that whenever Lang and/or Samuelsson is on the ice, I just know nothing productive will happen, and that's a best case scenario. Everytime I see these two bums out there, I close my eyes and pray that it will end soon. I've never hated a Red Wings player before, but I can officially say today that I hate Robert Lang. If Lang wasn't making 3.5 million, Hudler would easily be in the line-up. I am a huge fan of Mike Babcock, but the amount of ice time these two get is inexcusable. I honestly would feel better with Kopecky playing at this point. I was proud of how the team played last night. The most bitter part of it was watching Lang.
