Showcase for Yandle. Make it happen, Ken.

GDT 2/16 GDT : Montreal Canadiens 2 at Red Wings 0

I think the Lightning are a better team overall than the Canadiens, but hard to do much against Price when he's playing like that. The Red Wings, IMO, are a notch down from both of those two in the division. I think they could make a playoff series interesting against either, but ultimately wouldn't win. -

The Wings should "try" to play their way into the Metropolitan Division for the playoffs. I honestly like their chances against any of those three teams in a playoff series far more than the three others in the Atlantic. -

Again, wins tend to accumulate when your team scores three or more goals in front of you. 2.11 GAA compared to 2.55, .921 save percentage to .909. If wins were the best indicator of success, Monster should have been the starter over Jimmy going into this season. Jimmy was not tonight and has not been the Red Wings issue for losing games in a significant percentage of his starts. -

I don't even want to justify this post, but did you happen to actually watch the game tonight? -

The Wings are close, but man I just don't know if they have enough to beat any of the other teams in the division in a seven game series. Especially when the games become tight and low scoring, who is going to score an ugly goal? Because the defense will probably mess up first, like they did tonight. Need some size on the wing and obviously a top pairing d-man. But that has been five years running, so it's either wait it out for the prospects or get active in the trade market. Because right now, the Wings are still a couple pieces away from true contention. Mind you, they are still fun to watch most nights and better than expected. These past two and the next six games though could be a real indicator of how far they have to go yet. -

This is like Ericsson circa 2009 again. You just expect the turnover to happen. Magnified now though because he's on the first pairing. -
Except Yandle would be worth the price, unlike Quincey and Legwand. You gotta give to get something and Holland has either been reluctant to do so lately in trades or overpaid for low impact pieces. We can either keep lamenting the lack of a puck-moving offensive d-man or pray one actually signs here again next summer.
-
Yandle probably won't happen because Holland won't have the guts to pay the price, but Franson isn't anything special. Big and right-handed are the only reasons he made sense at all. Not to mention, Franson could walk this summer. I'm thrilled Holland didn't overpay for Franson. The Wings not getting him doesn't change my stance whatsoever.
-
Never was a huge fan of getting Franson relative to the price. I just think he was more desirable for the Red Wings being a righty, but beyond that, I haven't seen anything that makes him that special. I'm all in for Yandle, though. (Even being a lefty.)
-
No, but it's an inaccurate statement.
-
I don't. Except you did it two games into the season and continuously find ways to bash Howard even when he has been great before a rough outing tonight. You want people to hold Mrazek to a certain standard and then don't do it for Howard.
-
Not really an excuse. Did you not expect someone that hasn't played in over a month to not show some rust? Mrazek got plenty of starts and played well in spurts -- I never denied that. He also showed he has plenty to work on still as a goalie and Howard being healthy gives the Red Wings the best chance to win going forward. Mrazek's numbers aren't that great and the team did score a lot of goals in front of him. I don't know why that's such a travesty to point out. If Jimmy continues to give up four goals per game, then maybe you have more of a case. But he hasn't all season.
-
First game in a month. Easy to ignore I guess when you have an agenda. Howard has been exceptional all season and will be again. He just needs to play more to find his rhythm.
-
You go 1-1 and win in a shootout?
-
2-8 in the shootout. Even 4-6 would make a huge difference in the standings. Jimmy was rusty, but really good in the third and OT. Smith and the Pavel line were excellent, everyone else not so much. Big game on Monday.
-
The shooters are woefully bad at this shootout thing. I mean, just pathetic for all the skill they have.
-
Jimmy actually stops all three shooters and neither Pav nor Tatar score. Help the guy out!
-
Does Pav have any other move besides that?
-
Use Tatar and Gus. They should be fresh from not playing in OT.
-
Except that was mostly true. Who are you even arguing with at this point?
-
Quincey takes the most untimely and dumb penalties. Good coaching, Babs. Your top two goal-scorers haven't seen the ice in OT.
-
Jimmy! Tatar and Nyquist have not yet played in OT, but Abby and Glendening have. Way to play for the win, Babs.
-
Play three forwards if this gets to OT.
-
No trip, of course. I hope Chicago has to play Winnipeg in the first round.
