I don't know that this game is a true indicator. Granted, I tend to agree overall with that premise, but not having Howard is obviously impacting things here.
-
That wasn't a very good goal either. No screen, it's like Mrazek barely reacted to the shot. Is Monster ever going to heal? He was a week away like a month ago.
-
Jimmy lets in softies? How often can that truly occur with a 2.11 GAA and .920 save percentage? You would think soft goals would skew those stats a little more. Mrazek has let in three bad goals tonight. Inexperience or not, he hasn't been doing the job lately.
-
I will take my chances with Jimmy in regulation over Mrazek maybe winning in a shootout. Jimmy more than makes up for his shootout struggles. Mrazek has given up four goals in three straight starts now and got pulled after three in the first period against Buffalo. The Wings have won, but it was going to catch up eventually.
-
Because they have scored a ton of goals -- overcoming the bunches Mrazek has been giving up. Except tonight they probably won't score five or six to bail him out.
-
Why is that such a stretch? The Wings have won six in a row because they scored a ton of goals. Mrazek hasn't been very good lately and the team has won in spite of that. I'm not down on Mrazek, but clearly Jimmy Howard is the Red Wings best goalie and it's not even close. Mrazek just isn't ready yet, which is why it was a huge stretch that people thought the Wings wouldn't lose much in goal with Jimmy out.

Come back, Jimmy.
-
XO and Smith are getting manhandled tonight. Swap Smith and E to balance out the pairings.
-
This might be the most poorly officiated Wings game of the season overall. 5-1 in penalties and the standard has been ridiculously inconsistent.
-
Our best penalty killer is hurt.
-
Yup, the PK has tailed off since Jimmy got hurt. His save percentage is very good while short-handed and I don't think it's a coincidence the penalty kill is struggling now. Mrazek has to stop that second goal.
-
Worse night so far: Kozari, Mrazek or the PK? Plenty of time for O'Halloran to get involved.
-
Redundant meaning one is expendable in a trade? Because I entirely disagree with that.
-
Mantha. A pure goal-scoring winger with size. I do get the angle of keeping Larkin though since the Wings are thin at center once Hank and Pav are done.
-
More than likely. I didn't think Mrazek was much to blame against Buffalo, but he wasn't all that sharp tonight. Didn't like the first goal and either the third or fourth resulted from a rebound he kicked back out into the middle. (Sorry, can't remember which because they all happened so quick in the third.)
-
Yes, but I did all along. He's the best goalie the Red Wings have by far. Nothing against Mrazek, as he will be great someday, but this is Jimmy's team right now.
-
YES! Demons conquered for tonight. Nice five-game win streak heading into the break. Probably wouldn't have even needed the shootout if Howard was playing. Just saying.
-
I've seen how this ends too many times before.
-
The hockey hell of having Jonathan Ericsson play on your top pairing.
-
Disappointing, but in reality, the Wings got what they deserved. Just looks worse because they were up 4-1, but that was deceiving. Better win this in OT now. I'm thinking Gus again.
-
Yup, got too comfortable playing with a lead. Unlike the other night, where it took a deficit for them to start competing. It's a real struggle to put 60 minutes together.
-
Ridiculous. Get E on the third pairing where he belongs. He has been terrible all season.
-
The Wings really haven't been all that sharp tonight. The three-goal lead was pretty fortunate and now it's down to one.
-
Penalties are now 5-1 in this game and the Wings are up three goals still. Oh, it's Brad Watson. That explains it.

Is the term "ball buster" proper slang for a hockey broadcast? I thought it was funny, but Mick just kinda says whatever comes to his mind.
