Not a bad effort, but again can't score goals. The Wings just aren't a good team when they try to win tight, low-scoring games.
-
Yes and then he finally did take the puck to the middle and drilled the glass with the shot. Franzen has honestly been the Wings worst forward the past couple months. Everyone else at least fills some other role even if they aren't scoring.
-
Franzen is just pathetic. Hit the net. I'm ready for Pulkkinen.
-
That's a weak call again. The refs only know hooking apparently.
-
Babs is sucking the life out of these games trying to win 2-1 every night. The best stretch of hockey the Wings played this season was when they scored goals in bunches and played more wide open. The forwards are the strength of the team. I get trying to gut out wins a year ago, but it isn't necessary nor advantageous with the personnel anymore.

Abby is on the first line because he has been really good there. I agree Weiss should be playing more, but not at the expense of Abby.
-
I like Vermette, but I don't see the fit with the Red Wings. I think the Wings are pretty well set with two-way centers and Vermette would probably be a costly rental player. Just seems like an odd interest for Detroit, given Vermette doesn't really address any of their biggest needs.

I criticize Babs quite a bit for his lines and TOI management, but Abby has been just fine this season. 9 goals, 18 points in 30 games is excellent production. I think the larger concern is guys like Glendening, Miller, Helm and Franzen receiving better linemates and more chances than Weiss, Tatar and Jurco. Last night was the perfect example. The Wings get down a couple of goals, Helm goes into the top-six and then we barely saw Weiss or Jurco. Franzen has one goal in 15 games and is -13 this season. Weiss and Jurco have made just about any line they have played on better, yet they somehow always find themselves in the non-skilled fourth line role.

Completely inexcusable nearly all of the time -- even more in a game where the Red Wings were only shorthanded once.
-
I know, I laughed typing it out too. I'm desperately clinging to hope that at some point, he will make a trade worth a damn.

Can't win games when you don't play for an entire period. The Wings better end that bad habit real quick with a ton of road games and tough opponents coming up the next two months. They played well in spurts, but need more intensity for 60 minutes on a consistent basis. The defense is just sorry, though. That's a problem that can't be fixed with effort or starting on time. Ouellet needs to be up permanently and Holland has to get creative and make a move for a top four d-man after failing to for years. The Wings aren't getting to the next level with this crop of d-men.

Why is Franzen out there? That goal-scoring prowess he has shown lately?
-
"Miscue" is a perfect term for everything this defense does.
-
Is Weiss alive? Why is a productive offensive player riding the bench down two goals?
-
Keep Nyquist with Z. He's too good to waste on a line with Helm and Franzen.
-
Ouch. Had a chance to clear and couldn't. Probably a dagger being down two for the third time. Unfortunate time for a penalty.
-
Knew that was coming. Weak call, but gotta make sure to keep the penalties somewhat even.
-
Good push at the end of the period. Still have a shot to win this game in the third somehow.
-
Tatar! I don't understand why when the lines get juggled Weiss doesn't get moved around too. He creates things offensively.
-
Not sure it was all that obvious in any sense. One, I don't think it's certain that Tatar actually ever did touch the puck with his stick. Two, I never saw an angle where Tatar's stick was definitively above crossbar height. Third, and most importantly, the initial call on the ice was a goal -- despite what those clowns claimed after the fact. So, technically they needed conclusive evidence to overturn it, which didn't exist.
-
That made a huge difference then. I think it stands if they rule it a goal on the ice.
-
Who called no-goal originally? I didn't see anyone waive it off. The ref right behind the net never signaled it wasn't a goal.
-
That should count. I think Tatar going down made it below crossbar height.
-
Quality tie-up by Lashoff the plug.
-
Lashoff is garbage. Kindl could have been that weak playing defense. Call up Ouellet for good and stop this nonsense of rotating in plugs on an already bad defense.
