Jurco needs more ice time. He does good things consistently, but I feel like he's hardly ever out there.

I'm glad they overlook a cross check in the back dangerously close to the boards, but never miss the slightest hook around the hands. Quality officiating, as always.

No Franzen! I truly hope he gets better from this illness or whatever, but I'm not going to miss him tonight. If Weiss was in Cleary's spot instead, that would be a great third line. Go Wings! Time to break this losing skid and bank some points at home the next week.

I'm most excited about Sproul because he has the most unique skill set of the bunch and provides something the Red Wings are sorely lacking. Ouellet has been extremely impressive while up in Detroit -- you would never have any idea he's only 21 because he is so composed and sound defensively. Not as good of a skater as DeKeyser, but Ouellet's presence kinda reminds me of DeKeyser's game. I think Ouellet and Sproul are untouchables for me going forward, but I would be fine with using the other three as trade bait. The odds of all or any of them panning out are pretty low, plus you already have Smith, DeKeyser and Ericsson around in Detroit. That being said, Ouellet and Sproul probably have the most appeal, so they are going to be the names at the top of other teams desires in a potential trade too. I like the direction the defense is heading in the next couple of years. The transition hasn't necessarily been smooth getting there, but once these guys start hitting the NHL, the Wings should be in good shape.

Max has been gone since he turned down the Tigers offer before last season. Which I'm perfectly fine with because the last thing the Tigers need is another bloated contract for a starting pitcher. I like the Cespedes deal quite a bit, but hate the Alfredo Simon trade. I would rather move Simon to the bullpen, have Greene the 4th starter and let Lobstein and company battle for the 5th spot in the rotation. Personally, I would have much preferred taking a one-year flyer on someone like Justin Masterson instead of trading for Simon to fill the Porcello void. The Central is going to be very competitive next season. The Tigers are going to have their toughest test yet of winning the division.

Long season and the Leafs are on a hot streak. It's not sustainable the way they play defense. Besides, we saw the Leafs do this last season too and how did that play out? They should have easily buried the Wings in March and couldn't despite Detroit having no one healthy.

I agree. I agree. The Leafs aren't that good. I have the utmost confidence the Wings are the much better team going forward, despite the season series.

3-2-2? Not setting the world on fire, but eight of 14 points isn't a tragedy either. Besides, only two games have been really poor showings anyways this month. It's a long season. The Wings have done pretty well to this point of minimizing the lows. Then again, maybe I don't understand what exactly people expect from them.

0-3-2 stretch against the Leafs and Panthers in the past three weeks. Good news is the Wings have beaten everyone else on the schedule in that time and only play either of those teams twice more this season.

The Leafs did this last season too. They had like an eight point cushion on the Wings in March and imploded. And that was a Detroit team with no one healthy.

The Wings really do need Abby and DeKeyser back sooner than later, though. Abby for his forechecking and balancing out the lines, DeKeyser for his puck movement and solid defense. Their absences are pretty noticeable.

What? They played two very good games directly after the first Florida loss beating the Stars and Rangers. Had one of their best efforts Wednesday against the Leafs, but just didn't get the right outcome. Do people just distort things to follow their predetermined script?

The first period was ugly, but the Wings controlled most of the second and third. Even so, that two-game sample is indicative of a free fall?

That's a routine save -- not sure what Jimmy has to do with it as he has made those consistently all season. Not blaming Mrazek because he's the only reason the Wings had a prayer before the soft goal, but he needs to make that stop.

I'm not sure how a team gets to first in the conference if they never win in either of those scenarios. They are down a goal with a period to go and have plenty of comeback wins already this season.

No kidding. What's Lashoff gonna do pinching anyways with the complete lack of offensive ability he possesses? The Wings really should waive him and keep Ouellet up for good. XO is definitely better than either Kindl or Lashoff.

I assume that had that thread survived and Howard's numbers this season went the way you hoped/planned (after two games), there would have been time set aside for the stats. Mind you Howard has played extremely well which kinda ruined the fun of it all.

They deserved to win Wednesday for sure and last night went to a shootout. Tied for first in the conference, top ten in every major statistical category and have won 7 of 11 overall. Enjoy the ride. This team is way better than anyone could have imagined.

His shooters are 3 for 16. I can't imagine there any teams worse in that regard either.

That would be a genius move to trade a goalie with a 2.15 GAA and .918 save percentage. I know he is bad in the shootout, but my goodness, what an extreme overreaction. 3 for 16 now, so equally as awful as Howard.

This is so ridiculous. I mean they look like a group that has never seen or practiced a shootout situation every single time it occurs. They could be first in the conference by a couple points by going just .500 even in the shootout this season. 1-5 though really leaves too many valuable points on the table. The Panthers and Leafs have given the Wings their past four losses. I don't even really know what to say about tonight's game besides Tatar was exceptional and everyone else was just there. Definitely deserved a better fate on Wednesday, but this wasn't a very inspiring team effort.
