I would rather just have the available money to pursue a goal-scoring winger instead than either Weiss or Filppula. The Wings are pretty set up the middle depth wise, thanks to Sheahan and Glendening emerging. Now we have to either hope Weiss miraculously gets healthy and figures it out, Alfie's back heals or Mantha is the real deal right away.

You can't build a championship contender exclusively on draft picks when you are selecting in the 20's every year. The Wings do draft very well and were fortunate Zetterberg and Datsyuk became superstars, but impact players are hard to come by that late in the draft. Draft well and make smart free agency decisions to complement your internal pieces. Holland has the first part down well and has failed miserably with the latter. He has either spent money poorly on UFA's or struck out in areas of need.

You really think Nestrasil offers more than Franzen? Franzen was actually playing well before the injury and the Wings can't score goals. The Red Wings clearly need more top-six players and Franzen (as infuriating as he can be) still produces much more than the alternatives on this team.

The crazy thing about Holtby's dive is it put him entirely out of position to stop Miller's shot. If he stays up, that's an easy save. So, the goal was a direct result of his stupid dive and he got rewarded for both.
