Those two coaches have been blessed with far superior rosters to any Babcock has seen since 2009. I think Sutter is a good coach, but Q doesn't even get last year's Wings team into the playoffs if he's the coach instead.

The Joe is absolutely a dump, but it's ours, so you still love it. It's like when people rag on the city of Detroit. I do it too in jest, but when someone else does it, you right away come to the city's defense. I don't know that I will necessarily miss the outdated features of the Joe whatsoever, though there's still something redeeming about going there and experiencing a game (especially in the playoffs). I'm 6'3" so I will be thankful for any seating where my legs aren't numb while attending a game. I guess more than anything I just have a ton of great memories from my childhood and growing up watching the Wings at the Joe. You can take those along to the new arena, but it is a little sad that the Joe won't be there at all in a few years.

It has only been five games, but I'm not seeing anything yet from Nestrasil that makes it look like he's going to stick.

You would assume Weiss would be the first option if Franzen can't play. I think it would be a real disappointment and quite telling if Weiss is passed over for Dan Cleary instead.

Smith started with Kronwall, then was mostly with Kindl at even strength. E was back with Kronwall and DeKeyser/Quincey played the entire game together.

Outside of the second Bruins game, the Wings have played really good hockey. I am enjoying watching this group much more than the past couple seasons. They are quicker, more relentless and seem to have improved quite a bit defensively so far. Still have some kinks to work out for sure, but this is all without Pav too.

Kyle Quincey is playing terrific. Kindl isn't, but hey can't expect too many miracles.

Hank is an incredible passer. Really enjoying that top line together so far this season. To clarify, when Gus is there especially and not Abby.

Yeah, I absolutely agree and I'm usually pretty harsh on Franzen. I think he is skating hard and looks engaged through the first four games.

I agree with you. I prefer Weiss at center as well should he ever crack the lineup again. I could see Babs giving him a shot and that consisting of getting third line minutes on the wing with Helm and Nestrasil or something. The Wings brought him to Detroit to be a second line center. Another pecuilar coaching decision by Babs.

The Wings have six goals in three games. Weiss needs to play to see if he can give the team much-needed help offensively. If he still can't contribute, then there's a serious problem, but Joakim Andersson and Andrej Nestrasil aren't going to solve the lack of goals issue. Unless there are lingering injury concerns, I don't really understand Weiss being scratched unless there is more going on behind the scenes.

I don't think Jurco was hurt. Just benched so Babs could roll out Glendening and Andersson more frequently instead. Helm barely played in the third at all either.

It's way too early to judge anything. I don't believe the Red Wings are a championship contender by any stretch, but they are nowhere near bad enough to tank. Three games in and the Wings have played all one-goal games against two teams that are probably among the five best in hockey. Besides tonight, the first two games were really strong efforts and showed many areas to be positive about as a fan. The second time against the Bruins went poorly, though that was a determined team hungry to win a game after a poor start. So I guess overall, I don't think anybody really knows what we have yet with the Wings. There are certainly some worrisome signs. However, there is also plenty to look forward to as the season progresses.

The Red Wings have six goals in three games now. Gus Nyquist has exactly half of those goals scored. Tonight against the Bruins, Nyquist played 15:37. Joakim Andersson only played 11 fewer seconds, Drew Miller around 30 seconds less and worst of all, Luke Glendening played 17:09 tonight. A 4th line center registered over 17 minutes while the Wings best player and only goal-scoring threat so far this season received less or essentially equal ice time as two fringe NHL players and a PK specialist. That's extremely poor coaching. I love Babs, but this team can't score goals right now. You don't have Pav, refuse to play Weiss and then give your most dynamic offensive threat third line treatment.

Use him third then at least. Tatar should have been the first shooter.

Neither Nestrasil nor Nyquist got the puck on net in the shootout. Yeah Jimmy let in two, but he's the reason the Wings even got the chance to lose that shootout.

I honestly forgot about Jurco in the shootout entirely. I guess Babs benching him for the duration of the third period played into it.

Take the point and be thankful. Awful peformance all the way around from everyone but Howard, Nyquist and DeKeyser. Babs included for having Nyquist start on the third line, not using him on the PP in OT and having Nestrasil lead the shootout. Tatar didn't even get to go and he's probably the best option with Pav out.

Nestrasil, really? Didn't even get a shot off.

I would like to know the logic behind not having Nyquist out there for that power play. How do you not get him on the ice for that?
