Man, I just don't see the need for Kesler at all. Especially with Weiss coming back, the Red Wings are deep at forward. I'm really opposed to giving up Nyquist, Tatar or Jurco in a deal.

Would have cost a lot more than just Jimmy. Besides, goaltending isn't the Red Wings issue. Jimmy has largely been much better since the new year.

Fine with me. The stronger opponents become to beat the Blackhawks, the better. The Blues might be the most well-rounded team in hockey now.

I'm no Kyle Quincey fan, but that seems like overpayment. I think, best case scenario, MacDonald is a marginal upgrade to Quincey and I'm not even convinced of that. If the Wings are going to make a deal for a d-man and give up picks/assets, it should be for a player that solidifies the second pairing.

Good win! Two goals against in two games is the most important thing for me. Hopefully Weiss can come back strong because this offense has nice firepower and depth, even missing Z.

NHL officiating: predictable, as usual. Where getting a lead is always punished. On a positive, Monster has been really sharp.

Agreed. Stay far away from Kesler. Roll with this forward group, hopefully get into the playoffs and see what happens with Z coming back. I am terrified of what it would take to get Kesler.

I've ragged on Franzen plenty before, but he has been terrific this season when healthy. Was playing well before the concussion and has come out strong again now. Obviously huge with Z out to have Mule going. The Wings are going to get every penalty being up 3-0.

Babs shouldn't really use the line "we are going to dress the best players" if he's going to roll out Bertuzzi and Cleary in a playoff race. Eaves is superior to both and still can't find his way into the lineup consistently. Bertuzzi got a gift-wrapped goal, but otherwise was slow and ineffective. Cleary will be no different, likely worse. People get upset with Babs because it does continue to happen. Stupidity is still stupidity even if you keep repeating the mistake and just accept that's the way he is.

Moore had to say something to attempt to save face from one of the worst trades in MLB history.

Tatar was great too, but I thought Gus was consistently better overall. Either way, they are both a treat to watch.

GUS! Best player on the ice tonight. Looked dangerous nearly every shift. Franzen was terrific too, which is a good sign going forward. Boring, but efficient game until the inevitable blown lead. They are gonna have to clamp down defensively with Z out and Pavel still injured. Shame they gave the Canadiens a point, but more importantly the Wings got two.

Tatar and Jurco in the final minute? Love the kids, but not sure that's the best decision by Babs with a one-goal lead. They have left so many points on the table by failing to hold a lead and losing in OT or SO.

Of course. Bertuzzi makes a terrible turnover and then gets a tap in from Franzen. Will gladly take the goal, though.

Completely agree. That first line was clicking great with Z centering it, so the logical move would be just to slot Pav there instead now. Bertuzzi is done. He shouldn't be getting another 'final shot' with 24 games remaining in an extremely tight playoff race. What's next another crack at it for Cleary too? Just don't understand why the Wings can't cut ties completely with the dead weight.

Why is Bertuzzi playing and why is Nyquist on the 4th line when he was the Wings hottest forward before the break? Need two points, Babs. That can't be the first line.

Agreed. If Pav doesn't go tomorrow, I will not be pleased. If the knee isn't healed enough to play for the Red Wings, then it shouldn't have been fine to play for Russia either.

That's a fair point. Although, I honestly believe this season was one of the best in Z's career and that's saying something. I do agree that it's a shame the Red Wings are stuck in transitional years as the Euro Twins continue to get older. By the time all of these prospects are fully integrated, Pav and Z will be gone or likely declining.

Stand pat. First time in awhile, I will actually defend Holland for "kicking the tires". The Red Wings weren't a player away from championship contention with Henrik Zetterberg and now they are down their MVP. I do wish the streak will remain intact, but I don't want to give up assets for a rental player or marginal impact player that won't change the Red Wings fortunes of borderline playoff team. Nyquist and Tatar are basically untouchable to me if they are going to be dangled for some "quick fix" just because Z is out. Hope Weiss and Franzen get/stay healthy, let Sheahan and Jurco continue to play and build a solid foundation for next season and beyond. Trade Quincey for whatever the hell you can get in return and use the cap space created from the dead weight being gone to fix the defense this summer.
