Nyquist needs to stay with Z permanently. Where would the Wings be without Gus and Tatar coming through this season? If the Wings ever clean it up defensively, they can score goals.

This team reeks of mediocrity. Datsyuk and Weiss aren't fixing the mess on defense. Quincey and Kindl shouldn't even be playing ideally.

Exactly. Missing on Suter was the start of it all. Imagine if DeKeyser had not grown up around Detroit and chosen the Red Wings. They just don't have the talent right now to grow from within on defense. Plus it doesn't help when you give up a first rounder and then re-sign Kyle Quincey as your move to bolster the defense. Holland is gonna have to get creative this summer and actually make a trade for a quality d-man.

This is a different team with Z playing, even missing some other key guys. It was really ugly having to see Andersson center the first line. Need these two points desperately and a strong finish heading into the Olympic break. No Sammy, no Bertuzzi and now no Cleary. A LGW dream come true! Am I getting too greedy praying Quincey is next?

When is the four million dollar disaster going to take his turn as the healthy scratch? Quincey has made every partner he has played with this season significantly worse. Smith looked much more composed with Kronwall and now DeKeyser has struggled lately since getting anchored with Quincey.

He can "heal" until summer and that would help the team more than anything.

It's better than this season for sure, but I probably wouldn't be OK with it. With all the dead weight coming off the books, the Red Wings need to add something on defense. Whether through free agency or trading some of the prospects on the cusp of the NHL, this team desperately needs a puck moving d-man.

Not that Babcock is going anywhere, nor should he, but I think the obvious transition would be to let Jeff Blashill take over. Provided Holland doesn't overload on veterans in free agency, the Red Wings are in a position to really start implementing their prospects on a regular basis next season. I think the youth has mostly been forced on the team lately through injuries rather than by management's choice, but the positive is they have all proven to be NHL players. If I had to choose someone outside of the organization, it would be Dave Tippett.

Clean defense by DeKeyser is a penalty, but that hit on Abby isn't? Make sure you call 43 hooks per game though, NHL.

No Z, very little chance to win. They simply can't withstand Z's absence, especially in combination with Pavel out too. Z has to come back soon.
