Him and Bertuzzi both fill that role on the PP units being equally atrocious at it.
-
Kyle Quincey? Almquist moves the puck well at least and that's something the Red Wings lack desperately back there. Nobody besides Kronwall really chips in anything offensively from the defense.
-
Gus! Good to see him score a goal. Been much better the best past two games. Pretty one-sided period, but the result isn't bad.
-
Laughably bad call and it came from center ice. They didn't see Jackman's cross-checks apparently though.
-
Is Kyle Quincey ever not on the ice for a goal against?
-
I think that is due more to Howard's play than a reflection of the defense. They are giving up a ton of shots lately. I don't think there's any question the Wings would benefit greatly from a top-four d-man that can move the puck well.

It's insane how devastated by injury the Red Wings are that even getting one body back is a huge boost.

Would Samuelsson ever consider retiring mid-season?

The Wings playoff run will be short if Sammy is dressed during the playoffs. That means a bunch of forwards are injured because he can't even break the lineup with six of them out right now. -
GDT 1/18 GDT: Kings 2 @ Red Wings 3 (Shootout)

Who claimed that? Pretty much every person in this GDT has acknowledged the tying goal was a huge break. The Red Wings still played a solid game. They deserved something to go their way finally. -

Boy did the Red Wings ever need a break and they got one. Feels great to get a win at home, even though it was due to a horrendous mistake. Proud of this team still. They competed hard yet again and that's a positive with so many injuries. Z and Jimmy were terrific. I thought this was the best game Nyquist has played in awhile. Riley Sheahan is beyond NHL ready and Glendening brings much needed energy. The future looks bright at least, once the spare parts on the roster are gone. -

Haha, oh no way. As many times as O'Halloran has screwed the Wings, he's getting full credit for this one. -

Well, I think we know how this is going to end. Got a point, thanks to O'Halloran. Never been able to say that before. -

Babs is oblivious. Get Quincey off the ice in crucial moments! -

Puck luck! O'Halloran being an incompetent official finally benefits the Wings. -

Cleary and Quincey both mess up on the go-ahead goal. What else would you have expected there, Babs? -

O'Halloran will never miss a chance to call something on the Wings. -

Glendening is especially feisty tonight. Jimmy is great. Of course O'Halloran didn't see the blatant goaltender interference. -

Tatar needs to play with Jurco and Sheahan instead of Bertuzzi. Bert can't handle a top-six role if he doesn't have the Euro-Twins. -
Would Samuelsson ever consider retiring mid-season?
GoWings1905 replied to RedSea's topic in General
It's not like Samuelsson hasn't been given ample opportunity to do anything worthwhile. The Red Wings have six forwards out injured and he still finds himself as a healthy scratch tonight. -

You aren't alone -- I completely agree with you about Bertuzzi. He consistently has quality linemates and PP time, yet contributes hardly anything offensively. Everyone focuses on Sammy and Cleary (rightfully so), but Bertuzzi has only been marginally better than those two. I would prefer all three to be healthy scratches when/if the Wings start getting bodies back. Sheahan, Jurco and Glendening all bring much more to the team already than those three. Needless to say, I will be very upset if any of these guys are back next season. -

We aren't that lucky. He's going to milk every penny and completely suck at hockey at the same time. Best case scenario is somebody gets healthy maybe and he goes back to rotting in the press box. -
The Red Wings are working hard. Just being competitive in games is rather impressive given the lineup right now. I don't see this as an effort problem at all. Unfortunately, this team is just seriously devoid of talent at the moment.

Of course the Rangers chances were better. They should be given the discrepancy in skill. The Wings simply aren't going to get a barrage of spectacular scoring opportunities with that lineup. They worked hard and did pretty well for themselves anyways and got beat by a great goalie. I thought the Red Wings earned some puck luck or an ugly goal, like the Rangers got. Regardless, we need healthy bodies more than anything.
