Age is just a number. With the high level Matty has played at, he could get a 3-5 year deal. Would that be the wisest move? No, but there are teams that might be willing to do just that to get him.
-
The fact that you would even think about writing that shows that you are an utter fool.
-
The Ducks got the bounces the Wings didn't. It's very arrogant of anyone to think that with the addition of one player the Wings would have won the Cup. They would have had a much better chance with him, no doubt. But remember, the Wings nor the Sens could muster up a win without Pronger in the lineup against them. Matty isn't going to sign a on year deal. He will want a longer deal, maybe 3-5 years. This will likely be his last big contract in the NHL. Souray is not an option, he will command more than Matty.
-
His numbers weren't inflated by Crosby. He was a second, sometimes third line guy. Ask yourself this, if he couldn't beat our Colby Armstrong on Pittsburgh and play on the 1st line, then how the hell would be beat out anyone to make it on Detroit's 2nd line?
-
Jeff O'Neil?! That's a good one! A few other problems, Franzen is not a 2nd line winger, and you can't list Flip ahead of Draper on the depth chart. Not gunna happen. Markov won't take the same salary he made last season, he will get a raise even at a hometown discount. And there is no way Ottawa lets Preissing walk away for $3, it would take a lot more to pry him away.
-
I think the Wings could benifit from signing JR, he is a character, friends with Cheli, and plays a rough game.
-
$3 per? Not too bad when you consider the Wings are on the Hook for Kronner's $3 per, and he won't even play 80% of the games! At least Boyton would be healthy enough to dress!!
-
Of course he would work great in Detroit. He is the sniper type player the Wings are lacking. However, I think Pittsburgh is a tempting option for Karyia.
-
Much like Matty, he hasn't signed with anyone, yet.
-
I beg to differ. If Babs had his way, Hudler would be stuck in GR.
-
I'm not sure how exactly is works out, but I know the entire paid bonus doesn't count against the cap. It's something like a $500-$800k hit. With the lack of quality top 4 dmen as UFA's, and overpayment by Philly, Markov could see $3.5-$4 from a team with some cap space to burn.
-
That's why he is the shut down guy.... Pav and Hank are good, but Drapes is a better defensive center, hands down. Not to take anything away from what the Eurotwins can do in the d-zone, but Draper is just better.
-
Again, the Wings don't have the cap space to sign any of the 'tier 1' UFA's this off season. Kenny needs to sign 2 top 6 forwards, and a top 4 dman. Not to mention Dom. Getting Smyth, as much as I would LOVE it, just isn't in the cards. As for Markov, he made $2.5 this past season, he WILL get a raise.
-
It's quite possible that Rafalski could get $5+, but he won't get Souray $$$, maybe not even Matty $$$.
-
I guess that would work if the Wings rolled 5 lines...
-
Signing Smyth, or any other big name UFA won't happen this year. Kenny has gone on record saying Detroit has about $10 to spend. That just isn't enough to get Smyth, and the rest of what Kenny needs.
-
It's true that guys would be willing to take a cut to win a Cup. However, Souray will get paid regardless of where he signs. I would be willing to bet that Souray at a discount would still cost the same, if not more than Matty's ceiling.
-
While Peca is still one of the best defensive centermen in the game, we already have the best, Draper. Aside from Draper, we have plenty of centers. If one is brought in, it should be someone who could anchor the second line.
-
If Matty doesn't sign here, it will be because Detroit wasn't offering enough $$. In such case how would that in any way suggest that Souray is any sort of option? He will get more than Matty. If Matty isn't re-signed, I would like to see a couple of guys signed, Rafalski would be huge, and as I've said before De Vries would fit very well here.
-
I think people keep talking about this because they assume the line of Hank-Pav-Homer will stay intacted. Babs has said in the past that he wants to split Hank and Pav up as they are both natural centers.
-
I get why they Blues would make this deal. It's a great move for them, especially since Tkachuk was most likely going to re-sign with STL. However, I'm still baffled as to why ATL would bother with this move. I'm sure that STL talked to Tkachuk to see what his intentions were, and would not have made this deal if he didn't say he wanted to play in STL again.
-
I strongly disagree. If a team pulls this off, more power to them. Say Team X trades with Team Y for Player A. Team X loses in the second round of the playoffs. July 1st comes along and Player A signs with Team Z. How does this make the loss of everything sent to Team Y from Team X in the trade for Player A any more or less worthwhile? Besides, it could help a guy like Tkachuk win a Cup, and still retire with the team he wishes.
-
It sure looks like they got hosed in this deal. Unless this was some sort of planned 'gentleman's agreement' or something, I just can't see why ATL would do this. Am I crazy? Well, here is how the trade deadline deal went: STL: first round draft choice in 2007 third round draft choice in 2007 second round draft choice in 2008 Glen Metropolit and upon a ATL signing of Tkachuk a conditional first round pick in 2008 ATL: Tkachuk Today's deal looks like this: STL: Keith Tkachuk conditional fourth round draft pick in 2008, which could become a third round choice in 2009 ATL conditional first round pick in 2008 (originally sent to STL from ATL in the deadline deal of Tkachuk) What it all boils down to: STL: first round draft choice in 2007 third round draft choice in 2007 second round draft choice in 2008 Glen Metropolit rights to Tkachuk conditional fourth round draft pick in 2008, which could become a third round choice in 2009 ATL: conditional first round pick that was theirs to begin with So, again I ask. Is it just me, or did ATL just give up a pick for no reason? Obviously they don't intend to resign Tkachuk, so why make this deal? If I'm the GM in ATL, I just don't see how this benifits me at all.

!0 years isn't overnight. And it isn't like the Preds have been the laughing stock of the league or something. They have been pretty good. Especially for an expansion team. I don't think icing a competitive team has anything to do with the city the Preds are in. Rather, it has everything to do with having an owner willing to spend $$. In the salary cap era, there is no excuse for not icing a good team, at least on paper. I guess we will have to disagree. However, you can't deny that the team would do better in Hamilton. There is no doubt about that.
