wings should go after iginla next off season
BringHomeTheCup! replied to canadienhater's topic in General
Between Joey and Pav, I'd take Joey. But between Joey and Hank, I'd take Hank. If you'd take Joey there, who would he pass to? Homer?! -
And he was HUGE for Edmonton. BTW, how many time has Rex been the the playoffs? And what has he done? Exactly....
-
Wow, for second there, I liked where you were going with that post. Lilja over Cheli?! Lilja FIRST LINE AND CAPTAIN?! The wings don't need Bert. Bert at 100% is kind of an odd thing. Is 100% what he was in his 'Nucks days? Or is 100% just as healthy as his back will ever be?
-
Torres is a proven NHL player. Rex is not. Torres is a proven NHL playoff preformer. Rex is not. Torres>Rex (x10)
-
Are you talking the suites? Because if I am correct, those don't actually count towards the attendance, the Joe will seat about 20K. I would say average attendace is about 17K+, easily.

I'll take Hank re-signing. -
It's too bad Rex is only worth a half-sized Hudler...

Oh yeah? How'd I do that? -
Maybe even 15.

Hudler did have limited PT. But remember, if you are an opposing team, are you gunna worry about Hank, Pav, Homer, Sammy, hell even Lang, or Rex? Come on. I won't deny that the guy has talent, but your putting way too much value on him. Meech being NHL ready is a matter of opinion. If he is NHL ready, why wasn't he in the lineup instead of Quincey? And if he is NHL ready, why don't you want him? If you'd seriously take Rex and Meech over Commodore and Torres....wow

Never said they weren't good number. Just pointing out how far off you were with your 1.6/1.7 guestimate.

Why should we lower our expectations? It's what makes Detroit one of the best places to play and watch a hockey game. I understand being loyal to a player. I'll defend Sergei until I'm bluew in the face. But I've got no problems admitting he doesn't have enough heart, he doesn't work hard enough. But most of the Hasek fans act like the guy can do no wrong, and every weak goal he lets in is a direct result of something someone else did, therefore isn't Dom's fault. That's what I dont' get. GAA of 1.6/1.7?! That's laughable. You should really take a look at stats before you post something like that. Twice in Dom's career he has had a GAA of less than 2.00. 93-94 with a 1.95, and 98-99 with a 1.87. Dom's best GAA since leaving Buffalo was this past season, a 2.05. Dom is a shell of what he used to be. He is still a decent goaltender, I'd put him in the top 15 in the league. Saying he is a shell of his former self isn't to disredit how he plays now, it's a tribute to what he was.

The Wings aren't willing to move what it would take to land JP. Hudler has very little value, Lilja even less, Meech is a prospect. As far as picks, even a 1st rounder plus those three wouldn't be enough to land JP. Not when d-men are at a premium this offseason.

The Joe seats about 20K. I was at the Phoenix game when Detroit put up 9. Half way through the second, people started leaving, by the middle of the third, there were still more than 10k there. As for how many people go to the games, I couldn't tell you. But I can tell you that the tickets sell. I don't think Detroit had 'attendance' of 15k. I could be wrong, but I don't think so. Evenso the economy here sucks, hardcore, but people still find ways to support the Wings. No excuses for Nashville not to draw 15-16K per game. BTW, Nashville drawing 14k per game is like Detroit only getting 16k. That's nuts.
-
I don't think that would work, even on NHL 2008.
-
Just quickly here, Pitkanen, who would Kenny trade for him? Same with Byrzgalov? ::
-
Having a bad team come into town is no excuse for not selling out. Especially since it's pretty much the first time the Preds have been that good. Anyone remember how hard it was to get Wings tickets when they started to climb? Let me refresh your memory, it was all but impossible. I don't expect Nashville to sell out every game, but the arena should never be as empty as it is for most games. Curiously, how many does the GET seat?
-
No way. That's nuts. Simply having a guy like Marty or Luongo who will play 75+ games gives you the best tandom in the league. I don't care if you pull Jim Carey out of retirement to back either of those guys up. NO question the 'Nucks, and Devils are better suited in goal than Detroit. What's debatable? Did you read the entire discussion? Or did you just read one or two posts, and make a knee-jerk reaction? We weren't talking about who the Wings should try to get. We were talking about the best goaltending tandom in the league. So why would you even bring that up? Obviously you read only what you want to see. I said I didn't blame him for the loss, merely that he needed to be better. That's all. Yeah, he was the reason we were in a couple of game. But he was also the reason we were out of a couple of games. When I spoke of 'soft goals', I wasn't referring to the playoffs, that's why I didn't say, 'in the playoffs...'. Dom was not very good in the regular season. He let in a lot of soft goals. Contratry to your thoughts about me, I am in favor of signing Dom, and keeping Ozzie as his back up for one more year. It is the Wings best goaltending option. I will complain. But it won't be about not having Luongo or Marty. It will be about Hasek playing like an idiot, and wandering from his net. It won't be about how I wish the Wings would have traded for Vokoun, it will be about Dom letting in soft goals that should be stopped. I don't care how many tough saves you make, as a player, when you see your goaltender let in a softie, it takes the life out of you. If you've ever played, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Being a goaltender in Detroit is the second toughest place to be a goaltender. We expect greatness, and when we don't get it, we get upset. It's our right as fans. We are paying the salaries. Something I will never understand? How you defend Hasek to no end, how he can do no wrong. Wandering is just 'part of his game'. You have this love affair with Dom. He WAS great, he WAS a top 3 goaltender. He is just a shell of what he used to be, that is undeniable.

What would I change? First, I'd get you a strong dose of reality. Smyth isn't coming here for $5.5. That is, not if Kenny wants to retain Hank in 2 years. IF Smyth were to come here, it'd have to be for around $3-$4. Kozlov isn't worth $3.5, he only made $2 last year, he isn't going to get more than that anywhere. Grigs on the second line is a long shot, but I guess it's possible. No way Babs will put Flip on the 4th line. He will get more PT than that. Sammy will be a second or third liner As much as I would like to see it, he won't ride the pine. Finally, if the cap goes up to $52, Kenny will leave himself more than $763k breathing room. Probably around $2-$4.

First, when was the last season that Ozzie didn't have an injury that cost him a decent chunk of time? He isn't durable enough to handle the starting role. He was pretty solid at one point in his career, but not any longer. In the past 3 seasons, Ozzie has only started 120 games, 53 in the last 2. Over that same time period, Raycroft has started 159, with 102 the past 2 seasons. Raycroft is younger, more of a work horse, and has proven in recent years that he is a starter in this league. I don't think anyone can really argue that. Osgood isn't a starter any longer. He couldn't even wrestle the starting job from Manny. And I think most people would agree that Raycroft is better than Manny. Hasek needed to play better in the playoffs this year. I don't care what anyone says, he didn't play well enough. I'm not blaming him for the loss. But he didn't play great. fact is he did let in a lot of soft goals this year. He was good, and there were flashes of greatness. But not enough. Let me put it this way. You wouldn't take Luongo or Marty and any combo of our young goalies or Dom and Ozzie?
-
I would agree with this for most teams, and I understand it's your team he is trying to steal. However a team that is in the running for 1st overall in the league all year long only drawing 14,000? That's just wrong. Florida, Phoenix, Pittsburgh a few years ago. These terrible tems have an excuse to not have fans. If a city isn't going to come out and support a team that is at the top of it's sport, what's the point? I say move all these teams that can't get fans. Canada, North Western U.S., hell even a few more out in New England. If Bettman really wants to see hockey grow, and average attendance rise, then he should put teams places where fans will come. This idea of trying to place teams where people don't like hockey, and crossing his fingers in hopes that it will catch on it idiotic. It's like Bettman is a farmer. His crop of choice is potatoes. We all know about Idaho and potatoes. But instead of buying some land out in Idaho, Bettman thinks to himself, "If I can only get these things to grow where they don't grow, and people don't like them. Maybe then the people will like them, and I'll sell a lot of potatoes." So he chooses to move out to Siberia. Only the potatoes don't grow. The climate isn't correct. But instead of cutting his losses, and moving somewhere that he could grow potatoes, say North Dakota, he chooses to keep his potato farm in Siberia. Saying that it's only a matter of time before they start to grow. I feel for you, I really do. But I'm more concerned with the NHL growing, and getting better T.V. deals. There aren't enough people who honestly give two s***s about the Preds. IMO, move them.

Wow, Ozzie and Dom the best tandom? How about Luongo and anyone? Or Marty and anyone? Dom is no longer an elite goaltender. He is good. Not great. Ozzie, I love him, but he is average. Anyone who wants Ozzie as a starter over Raycroft is just nuts. Raycroft is better than Ozzie, hands down. Again, Ozzie is a great guy, perfect for a backup, but that's it. He isn't a starter. So the tandom of Osgood and Hasek has won 1 more Cup than Bryz and Giggy, what's your point? Lastly, the Bruins did have the Habs on the brink of elimination and blew it. But to blame that on completely Raycroft is just insane. If it had anything to do with his play, he wouldn't have had the chance to lose game 7, most likely even game 6. What? I can't tell if you are trying to be sarcastic or if you just have no idea what you are talking about.

First off, I will admit, I was one of the people on here after Game 5 when Iggy butt-ended Matty. I was running high on emotions, and the McLennan thing didn't help. However, to say that was Iggy did to Matty now classifies Iggy as a dirty player is just wrong. The guy is no Stevie, I think we could all agree there. Iggy is a captain in the NHL, and that doesn't happen by accident (unless you play for the Wild). Throughout his career he has shown that he has a bit of a short temper, but never done anything on any sort of consistant basis that would permit him to be classified as a dirty player. He plays the game hard. Despite all of you who say they would hate him in Detroit, he would be loved. I know it's been said, but if we fans can get passed Cheli coming here, we can get passed anything. Well, maybe not the Turtle. -
Sharks deal Toskala/Bell to Maple Leafs
BringHomeTheCup! replied to WhiteLightning91's topic in General
Just like Dom did? So you don't think Dom will ever win a Cup again? Osgood won a Cup, and I seem to remember him letting in a pretty ugly goal that season. Nabby is a quality goaltender. Had he had any real defensive help the Sharks would have had a better run. -
I guess the big question is what happens now? I'd be intrested to see if the sale can actually be cancled. This has been one hell of a day. I really feel for all you die-hard Preds fans, both of you should check your blood pressure. The Wings moving East is a pipe dream.
