Here is how you measure this hit. What would you think of it if it were Z getting hit? I would be my bottom dollar that this board would be full of "it was a dirty classless play" "no Red Wing would ever do that" ect, ect.... I think it was a dirty play. No way Dom even attempts that play if he doesn't see Gaborik's head down. Yes, Dom did go after the puck, but it's complete bs on his part to claim 'I had to protect myself'. Sorry buddy, but the 'protecting yourself' card doesn't apply to situations you instigate. At the very least Dom deserved a minor penalty. What I'm curious about is why a penalty shot wasn't awarded.

You must have went before the recent 'crash' of the USD. I know about a month ago, the Canadian dollar was actually worth 5% more than the USD. Both are about even now.

That's not what I am talking about. Assuming this was a conspiracy between Burke and Scotty to save money and rest Scotty, as perposterous as that is, Matty was brought in to be Scotty's replacement until he returned. Take Matty's salary, dividing it into 29 games. Take Scotty's salary, divide it into 29 games. Subtract. It's about $440,000. This has noting to do with cap space.
-
How am I being obstinate? You have yet to answer my question. How does this benefit the Ducks? They didn't save much money, maybe a few hundred thousand dollars (about $440), that isn't enough to make all this song and dance worth it. If Burke and Scotty had this plan, no way Burke would have signed Matty to the deal he did.

But Atlanta isn't in the WC.

God I miss Dave. He will forever be, in my eyes, the voice of the Red Wings.

Hall-of-Famer Lindsay blames Bettman for loss of fans
BringHomeTheCup! replied to Jwo's topic in General
After reading this article, I had to sit down and think about it for a while. While Bettman is the easy whipping boy, I think you have to deflect some blame on his bosses, the board of governors. He is basically their puppet. If the BOG thought he wasn't doing a good job, he'd be gone. Now I'm not saying I like Bettman, or that he should share in the blame. Just that I think there are more people to include in the blame. -
It just may be the first time we have agreed. What's that sound? I think hell just froze over! I really think this could end up hurting the Ducks in the long run more than it is going to help them now. Did anyone else catch how Burke sounded pissed off when someone asked what would happen is Scotty tried to pull this next season? That sounded like a guy who is tired of being left in the dark, and being toyed with.

Truth be told the not carrying his team rebuttal wasn't aimed at you, I just forgot to include the post I was replying to. This was the comment I was responding to. "There are some great defensemen and defensively minded players on those two teams, and if we're going to dock Broduer points for having great defensemen around him, then the same needs to be done for Roy." However, I never said Roy carried his team to the Cup. I just said he carried his team. 18 out of 19 seasons in the playoffs. He didn't have a team that deserved to be there every year.

While I understand not putting Gretz as number 1, as some people argue for Lemieux, Howe or Orr. Why put him below Messier, Yzerman, and Neely? No way Neely is better. I could see the argument for Messier being a better leader, or Yzerman a better two way player, but come one, he is better than 5th! Craig Ludwig? Sure he won a few Cups, but what else? I mean, to put him before Neids, Coffey, Blake, Murphy, MacInnis, Leech, Housley, Pronger, hell even Rafalski, I just don't understand. Richter? He had a few good seasons but nothing Hextall, KolzigBelfour or Joseph didn't, except win a Cup. Not to mention Roy, or Khabibulin.
-
So what it actually Burke on the grassy nole? Again, how does this benefit the Ducks? They signed Matty to replace Scotty. In all likelyhood they will move Matty. Matty is making about $1.25 less than Scotty this season. So we are talking about a few hundred thousand dollars that, in your senario, the Ducks would have saved. All this drama for such little savings? Doesn't add up. What does add up is that Scotty wasn't 100% about retiring, so the Ducks gave him all the time he wanted to come back, but prepared as if he wasn't. Now, if anything, the Ducks are screwed with trying to move Matty to make room for Scotty.

Any one have pics of osgood at the all star game
BringHomeTheCup! replied to dustin35's topic in General
He has only went once, but it was in '95-'96. I'm pretty sure it was the purple and black jersey. -
The Ducks will be better with Scotty back in the lineup. If nothing else, that has to get Kenny thinking. Say what you will about the Hawks, but if the playoffs started today, they'd be in. Regardless, what does the success or lack thereof, of the Hawks have to do with Kenny making a deal? The Wing are all but a lock to make the playoffs, any deal made would be to help the Wings win a Cup, not the division or simply to make the playoffs.

Ozzie has faced 369 shots in 16 games (per TSN), that works out to a little over 23 shots a game.

Would Lemieux have made it in the early days? Would Sawchuk or Plante be able to play in today's game? Comparing generations is listening to two blind me argue which color their shirts are. It's a pointless debate. The only thing we have to compare are stats. Given Gretzky's stats, there is no doubt in my mind that if he grew up in the same era as Crosby did, he would be just as if not more dominate than Crosby. A few things you have to understand... 1. Gretzky grew up with a completely different style of hockey than today's stars did. 2. If not for Gretzky, Crosby isn't doing the things he is doing. Gretzky revolutionized the game. 3. Just for S & G's, how do you think Crosby would do with all the clutching and grabbing going on and the left wing lock? A lot of what Crosby does is a direct result of not allowing defenders to clutch and grab.
-
My arguement had nothing to do with who carried his team more. Simply that to say Roy never carried his team is foolish. Yes, Osgood did carry the Islander team to the playoffs.

I disagree with your idea that a rule should be in place to discourage or even disallow this. I don't see how it harms the game at all. In fact, as you pointed out, it creates more problems for the Ducks than it solves. If anything, it makes things more interesting for the rest of the league knowing that someone is going to have to be moved. It doesn't necessarially mean someone will be traded, but that is the way it is looking. Regardless, how often does something like this happen? I seems a bit foolish to me to institute a rule preventing this when it isn't something the NHL sees with any sort of regularity. Please explain to everyone exactly how this helped the Ducks at all. I sure would like to know.

I think Kenny will be very active trying to get someone before the deadline. I don't think Forsberg is where he is looking simply because no one can be sure what Peter Forsberg you will get. I think Hossa will stay in Atlanta the way things are improving there. Naslund would fit nicely with the rest of the Swedes. I think a change of scenery could be just what is needed to get his scoring again. The Wings still lack a true scoring threat on the second line, and are in need of a top 4 dman. If Kenny can fill those holes, this team has a legit shot at Silver.

He was/is under contract, however he was suspended for not reporting to camp. Since he was suspended by the team, his salary didn't count against the cap. Even with the teams self-imposed cap, the addition of Niedermayer will put them over the CBA imposed cap NEXT season. I'm not sure about the boring details, but from what I've read, the Ducks will have to move someone who is under contract for next season to clear enough cap space. From Spector's..... "Bob McKenzie tonight reports defenceman Scott Niedermayer could be returning to the Anaheim Ducks soon, but that could create a potential salary problem for the team. McKenzie writes that, while the Ducks have the cap room to absorb the remainder of Niedermayer's salary for this season, his return means they must free up cap space for next season. "In the new CBA, it's called 'tagging' room and the Ducks don't have enough of it next season to allow Niedermayer back on the roster this season – unless they move a player who is under contract for next season", reports McKenzie, who goes on to say sources claim the Ducks have been very active in trade talks this week, hoping to move a defenceman other than Chris Pronger. That means Mathieu Schneider (ironically signed to potentially replace Niedermayer), Francois Beachemin or Sean O'Donnell might be available. McKenzie also claims Niedermayer might only return for the balance of this season and retire."
-
No Ted Lindsey?
-
Now the Ducks have to move someone who is under contract not only this season, but next as well. This could spell the end of Matty's days as a Duck.
-
Form wise? Explain please.
-
That is why your post is pointless. He will get injured, it will be some freak injury or accident, and it will cost him 15+ games. It's just who he is.
-
Lidstrom is good, but he isn't that good! Saying Ozzie is miles ahead of Bryzgalov, Khabibulin and Kipper is just foolish. Ozzie is playing well, that much is true. But if you think for one second that he wouldn't be traded straight up (salaries aside) for any of those three guys, you are crazy.

A look back, before the repeat, Vladi, and others
BringHomeTheCup! replied to Louisville's topic in General
I don't think anyone who was around then can ever forget. I still don't think the Wings have recovered, on ice, from the loss of Vladdy. They are still looking for that physcial presence back there. They have tried and tried again, but no one seems to fill that spot.
