    anyone interested in Raycroft?

He has played 3 seasons people. He won the Calder in Boston. He was great that year. The next season, not so much. Then this past season in Toronto. Yeah, he was pretty bad. But remember it's Toronto. It's probably the toughest place to play goaltender in the league. There is a ton of pressure on the guy. I think if he were to get moved, it would be to Tampa Bay, maybe for some picks. It would be a good fit for Tampa. There are also a few other teams looking for a goaltender, Phoenix, L.A., and Florida jump out at me. I don't think he will get moved however. I think bringing in Toskala is a great move to push Raycroft to play to his potnetial. If anything, I'd think one of the two gets moved closer to the deadline.

    crazy trade proposal

Babs wants to split up the Eurotwins. We need wingers. To be more specific, we need a scoring winger, a shooter, much like Karyia. Spare me the critiques on Karyia, it's just an example.

Detroit wanted him back. His ego couldn't take not being the guy. So he left. That isn't classy. Just because he didn't kick and whine doesn't make it classy.

    'Hawks trade Aucoin to Calgary

Calgary has about $32-434 spent already. Bringing over Aucoin adds $4. The only way sending Tanguay over to Chicago in return could be seen as a move to get Smyth would be if Aucoin was bought out or then traded somewhere else. Calgary, much like Dteroit, doesn't have the cap space to sign Smyth. Especially with Iggy and Kipper both needing to be re-signed in '08. As for the draft, there is no one available in the draft who can help Chicago out significantly in the next 3-5 years. Tanguay could. That's all I'm saying.

    The big three or bust?

I don't think it's a shame. I wish an owner willing to spend could spend as he wishes. I understand the need for a cap, but I would do things differently.

    The big three or bust?

I suggest you take a look at the Wings cap space. Whatever site you use, look at it. The Wings have about $34 already tied up. With the current roster needs, the biggest signing you will see is going to be Matty (if he signs with Detroit) for around $3-$4. After that signing, Detroit would have about $38 committed. Even if the cap goes up to $52, which I've read that it's more likely to be $49, Kenny still would only have $14 to play with. Kenny would still need to sign at least one more top 4 dman, 2 top 6 forwards, and a goaltender. If you give anyone of those players more than $3 per, you really place a strangle hold on Detroit's ability to call anyone up in event of injury or make any trades. Remember, Kenny will like to leave himself about $2-$4 in cap space for just such occasions. Mr. I has the money, it's a shame he can't spend it.

    'Hawks trade Aucoin to Calgary

Why is there no chance that deal could have been made? Explain that to me. As I said before, there are no gamebreakers in this draft. No one is this draft will be an impact player next year. Chicago needs help. And a lot of it. Calgary needs cap space to re-sign both Iggy and Kipper. How does this not make sense? As for Calgary clearing space to go after Smyth, but sending Tanguay for Aucoin. HUH?! They only gain $1, so how does that work? Again, Kipper and Iggy would be signed first.

wings should go after iginla next off season

This year, we'll sign Smyth, and Drury. Next year we will get Iggy, and trade Rex for Luongo. I predict 10 Cups in a row.

    'Hawks trade Aucoin to Calgary

Do us all a favor and try to write in a coherent manner. I just read your post 5 times, and I still have no idea what you are trying to say in the second 'paragraph'. I'll try to respond. First, what is so crazy about the first pick and Aucoin going to Calgary for Tanguay? Second, Smyth won't even consider Chicago. He'll have his pick of teams to play for. I can think of 20 other places he'd go before Chicago. Hell, he'd probably play here in Detroit for league minimum before he'd take league max in Chicago.

    Samsonov traded to Chicago

You might want to check your stats Sparky, he netted 28 in '01, and a career best 41 in '02. Even if you do math like President Bush, that still isn't 78. Just FYI, Samsonov netted 29 both years ('01 and '02) for a total of 58. Since that year, Samsonov hasn't gotten 20 goals, hell he hasn't even gotten more than 40 points. I've got 4 words for you: FLASH IN THE PAN

    'Hawks trade Aucoin to Calgary

Aucoin didn't carry much trade value, I'm highly interested in seeing what Calgary gave up for him. But if you look at things logically, which judging from your trade thread you have serious issues with, Calgary would want to move a big contract to clear room to sign Kipper. Whether that is with another team, or Chicago, who knows. You will see someone big leaving Calgary sometime soon. As for moving the first overall pick, I wouldn't be surprised. There isn't a 'can't miss' in this draft. The top kids in this years draft would not have cracked the top ten in past years.

what are our chances of keeping our 1st rd pick ?

Sounds like one hell of a plan to me!

    'Hawks trade Aucoin to Calgary

Can you believe that the Lions sell out? I mean, at least the Hawks make the playoffs from time to time.

    'Hawks trade Aucoin to Calgary

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see something like Aucoin and the first overall this year, for Tanguay and maybe Calgary's 2nd or 3rd round. But I also wouldn't be surprised to see Tanguay go elsewhere for a few kids. I've read on a few different sites that if it came down to it, Iggy would be gone, and Kipper would be signed.

Would we have won the Cup if Yzerman played?

I can't help but wonder why you are allowed to start threads. No, the Wings would not have won it all. Stevie hung around one year too long as it was. He tried to will his way past Edmonton, and it didn't work. If you have Stevie in the lineup this offseason, others like Franzen, Cleary, Bert, Lang, FLIP, do not get the ice time to do anything. Stop this nonsense posting. I'm starting to get a headache every time I see your name next to a thread title.

I didn't meant to sound condescending, I was asking a legit question. Poor phrasing on my part.

    'Hawks trade Aucoin to Calgary

I know it's out there as far as real return for Tanguay, but Calgary does need to move someone to get some decent Cap space to sign Kipper. They aren't going to do that by taking Aucoin's contract and not sending a big one towards Chicago.

    Andy Sutton

I see the difference, but I'd have to agree with Crymson here, what is your point? He's never done anything close to that in the NHL. Give me a dime for every Junior star who didn't pan out in the NHL....

    Latest from Shanny

True, he was a class act when he was here. However, I fail to see how the fact that Detroit won 3 Cups makes any significant difference. Or rather why it should for Shanny, when most people won't give Sergei that same respect. I respect Shanny, and the way he plays the game. I do not respect how he left. Regardless what anyone has to say about it being on 'good terms'. The fact of the matter is Shanny's ego didn't allow him to stay here. I guess my biggest problem with it really has nothing to do with Shanny, and everything to do with the fact that Sergei left the team for LESS money, and was fairly open about wanting to be the guy. Shanny took similar cash, but didn't say much as to why he left. He wasn't going to be the guy like he thought he would be when Stevie left. He couldn't handle that, so he left. I do not respect that. I hope he never wins a Cup with the Rangers, as long as Jagr is there.

But no where near the level of pure hatred that Fedorov receives. Seriously though, what does the average of years to Cup wins have to do with anything?

Fetisov won 2 Cups in 4 seasons with Detroit. That's an even better percentage. What's your point?

    Andy Sutton

So why pursue him? The Wings don't need a 5/6/7th dman, they have enough of those in Lebda, Cheli, Quincey, Lilja ect... What the Wings need is a top 4 guy.

GST "Jeez, I hope you swear undying loyalty to one company the rest of your life and you better never leave them. If you do i'll wish ill will towards you, your new job and anything else I can think of. Shanahan left on fantastic terms. His time had passed in Detroit. We could've used him but he wasn't the same player he used to be. We were bringing in a new wave of Detroit superstars and Shanny said himself he felt he was a part of the past and should move on to make room for the new guys and to find a new home for himself and new challenges. Oh yeah, that's like the worst thing a guy has ever done to a franchise before. Sometimes I sit and stare at this s*** I see people saying on this forum and I just think....WTF, I have to share the same air with some of these schmucks? Can people really be that freaking stupid and selfish?" Nice post Sparky. Why do I care on how everyone felt when Shanny left? He left because he wasn't going to be the main guy, and in all likelihood he knew he wasn't going to get the 'C'. And no, me pledging my life to a company is not the same as what Shanny did here. He gave his all to the Wings. He did great things here. But he wasn't drafted by the Wings, and when it's all said and done he will have spent more time in his career not wearing the winged-wheel than wearing it. Your analogy is terrible, as is your analysis of my post. It's clear that you are a Shanny fan, and that is the problem. I will never root for the guy again in my life. I never really liked Shanny. I never disliked him either. He was dependable, but once we signed Hull, I thought he was also expendable. I'm not hurt that he left, but I was upset how he left. And for that reason alone, I don't want the guy to have success. How does this make me selfish? What do I gain from any of this? Nice post Sparky, nice post.

    Ducks re-sign Giguere: 4 Years, $24M

I hate hearing that a goalie is good because he uses big pads. Wake up everyone, Giggy has to get his pads checked by the same people that check all the other goalies. The same rules apply to every goalie. So if it's his pad size, why don't we just sign Bryon Dafoe to a lifetime contract, and give him some big pads? No doubt Giggy uses pads on the larger side, but seriously people, he is that good! He is a very sound positional goaltender, that's most of the saves he makes look so easy. Great positioning.
