As much as I distest Avery, I love how he is always doing his job. Even after his team has been eliminated from the playoffs, the guy is running his mought. Do I respect him? No. Do I like how he plays the game? No. I compare him to Malts, in the he is a pest on the ice, and draws a lot of penalties. I remember a stat from a late regular season game this year, it was on VS, Avery drew more penalities this year than anyone. Then they showed another stat, I forget what it was called, but it is the equivelant to +/- for penalties, and Avery was also a higher plus than any other player in the league. I know this guy is pretty much a joke when it comes to speaking out. But, I hate Crosby, so I will side with him on this one. If Sid the kid is so good, a fracture in the foot wouldn't, and shouldn't have slowed him down as much as it did in the playoffs. Just for reference, I know it's not at the same level, but I have played with a broken foot before. It's painful, but once you get that skate on, and tighten it up real good, you don't even think about it. That is unless you take a stick or puck off the foot. I'm a Dman, so it's not an uncommonc thing to get hit in the foot. I've played through several breaks. The worst being a broken big toe. When you are skating backwards, that's what you push off with. My point? I'm no where near teh level of talent that Crosby has. If I can play through it and not have it effect my game little if at all, so should he. Plus he has the benifit of pain killers in liquid form injected on sight!

Any extra tickets?

Stats are all we can really go by. But I'm not trying to hand Detroit the Cup based on stats, I just don't understand how Detroit is considered such an underdog. Detroit shut down Iggy and Kipper, Joey and Nabby gave us a scare, but it wasn't too bad. I think the WIngs have a legit shot.

Chance of Wings, Pistons, and Tigers winning titles => the lions winning 10 games
-
I can't say that I actually care if the Pistons win or not, I hate basketball. I actually passed up on some halfcourt seats, and out 1/3 of the up from the floor to shovel the drive way back in January. All things aside, I think the Tigers are the least likely to win it all. From what I hear on Sportscenter, the Pistons are pretty much a lock to get to the finals, barring an implosion. The Wings are half way there. But the Tigers will most likely have to beat the Yankees and/or the BoSox to even get a chance to play in The Series. I think they are a pretty good team. But remember there is also the ChiSox to contend with. I don't think at this point you can even say the Tigers are a lock for the playoffs.

I gathered that much, I meant how did you add them up?

Your total listed says $29.3, but it adds up to $28.853, you are wrong on Kronwalls salary, as I was, it's actually a $3 hit. Adding that in to your total, you get $30.353. The cap is supposed to be $47-49. If Dom Cheli re-sign, both for the same, that's about $31.653. Now here is where I am lost. Are you suggesting leaving Howard in the minors, or carrying him with the team? If he is carried with the team, that's an additional I think $850k. But I will leave that out. Adding in your potential signings that puts the team at $44.503, add in cap hits for buying Dmac, and Doms bonus this season, there isn't any wiggle room. Mind you most teams carry a few extra skaters on the NHL roster. Also with injury, the only way the injured players salary doesn't count against the cap is if he is placed on the long term injury list. We don't have to cap room to spend $8 on three guys. Realisticly if Bert doesn't come back, and Lang walks, we could offer up about $4-6 for Symth, or any potential combination of UFA's. And I just can't see paying Matty $4.5, I can't even see the Wings giving him $3.5. Maybe a team like Philly who has cap room to overspend, but we don't. One last thing, not trying to be confrontational about this, but how did you get your #'s for next years commited salary?

I think for the most part, it doesn't matter who is in office. The Gov can do everything right, but the auto industry doesn't have to jump at her every command. It's true that she hasn't done a whole lot in terms of getting new business back in Michigan, but this thing will turn around sooner or later. If for no other reason, some businesses will look at the unemployment rate, and think 'Hey, I could go into Michigan, look good by creating jobs, and pay those people less than any other state. They won't complain, getting paid less than average is better than not getting paid.' It's just a matter of time, now how long? I don't know. But it'd be nice to see the Gov try and get people like that back here.

Well, first off, you need to add Cheli and Howard into your salary figure. Then go back and check your figures. According you your esitmates, not including Cheli and Howard, we have $14 in cap space to use, but your signings call for $14.85 in signing. Finally, we would need to leave some cap space for potential call ups, trades, and cap hits such as Dom's bonus from this year. Heh, I guess captian and typing don't go so swell together, eh? lol

Kudos on everything about Smyth, except his hands. Same thing with Homer, no one gives him credit, they both have exceptional hands. Of course neither compares to Pav.. I think Bert is capable of playing that big game again, it's not the NHL style anymore.

Don't assume things, you make yourself look foolish. I don't work in for any of the big 3. I was meerely using them as an example to you implying that we don't work hard. Those guys work very hard, yet they get laid off. It isn't their fault, in fact it's the people designing the cars. The guys that are making the big bucks to make sure everything on the car will work right. But they aren't the ones that lose thier jobs over it. It's the people who have no control over any of the issues you described. And it goes beyond making a better product. there are many factors. Such as making a car with better gas mileage, and overall production costs. I can't really blame the big 3 for moving factories to foreign countries. I mean, if I had a product that I could make in the U.S. for $10, and see for $20, or make in another country for $3 and still sell it for $20, you better believe I am not going to make it here. The biggest issue is health care, it costs them so much to provide it, if we could get the cost of health care lowered, things would be different. But I'm not going to get into that s***. It's late, and i have to work in the morning. Another mindless 10 hour day, and a job I hate. But I do it, and contrary to your opinon, I bust my ass. All just so I can eat.

Well good for you. You make yoursef sound like a complete *******. It seems like you are trying to suggest that the reason the unemployment rate is so high is that we aren't working as hard as you are. You ar young, one day you will learn, probably the hard way judging from your attitude, that life isn't always about how you preform. I'd like to see you stand in front of the thousands of autoworkers who are laid off and tell them they just need to work harder, and see how that goes over.

I just see much more of an upside with Smyth than Bert. Nothing against Bert, but I think Smyth would be a better fit.
-
Yes, I agree, this is much more painful.
-
So what were we yelling about?
-
I think if the brass thought we couldn't re-sign Hank when the time comes, and we didn't want a solid goalie in a few years, and if Nick didn't come back, sure....but I really think it's one or the other if we want to add without subtracting. Although, the cap will most likely go up for a few more years, so it is possible.

Yeah, his stats aren't bad, like I always say, GAA is more of a reflection of team d, but Sv% is quite a telling stat. That being said, I still don't think Dom's was that great, it could have and IMO should have been better.
-
Dom is 42. He is no spring chicken. He very well could retire, espesically is we win the Cup. With a lack of goaltending depth on the UFA market, what do you think the Wings should do? I'm not a Hasek fan, but if he doesn't retire, I just don't see a better choice in net. I could see a guy like Belfour stepping in for a season like Dom did, but that is a lateral move in net. As much as I wish there was someone available at an affordable price to take Dom's place, there simply isn't. The best possible UFA options are Giguere and Backstrom. Backstrom is largely unproven, evenso, he most likely will attract a lot of attention from several teams. Giguere is simply going to cost too much. He will command $6 million per, I just don't see Kenny spending what little room we have in that manner. So, who is your choice if Dom retires or signs elsewhere? This is just for fun, something to talk about on a day off. Again, I DO think Dom is our best option, this is just a hypothetical. Let's have some fun with it. Here are my ideas. 1. Denis: He had a horrible year in Tampa, there is a lot of talk he will get bought out. He was amazing for the Jackets. I think he'd be worth a one-year shot. 2. Theodore: I know, I know, he has also been awful. But again, what would it hurt to sign him to a one-year deal? Even if say he wanted a three-year deal, remember he was the league MVP once. Worse case senario, we buy him out. 3. Osgood Liv/Howard: I'm not sure how I feel about these guys. I like Ozzie, I think he could backstop us without much trouble, and the young guys need some steady NHL experience sometime. Remember, just have FUN with this....

We also have two great centers, but we don't have anyone else for them to play with, so they are playing together. Think about that one-two punch for a second. And then think about how awesome our PP would be, unit one with Homer, unit two with Smitty....
-
I just get the feeling that this guy is just a complete prick, how bout you Offsides? I'd rather not have 'fans' like this at the Joe, but that's just my opinon...
-
HAHAHAHAHAHA if you only want to spend $300 on a pair you would be in the nosebleeds!! You should really get some perspective before you start posting about things you have no idea about!
-
BringHomeTheCup: Yeah, I'll throw down on that!

$460 a day huh? Must be nice, I struggle to to pay bills that total to less than $1000 a month, less than half your work week. Don't talk to people like me, on this thread about having it rough in Michigan.
