Sorry about the wrong gender assignment, I was tought wayyyyy back in a few college english courses, if the gender is unknown, assume it masculine. And, just for the record, I wasn't ragging on you in any way, just stating what I thought, I enjoy conversation, at least when it's not with someone who jumps in half way and decides he knows what's going on lol.

Too bad for Vinny and the boys, if they had a NHL caliber goaltender, they would be one hell of a team.
-
First off, yeah, the Flames got fined 100k, but that's like telling you or I we got fined $1. Big flippin deal. The onlt reason that ine was handed out was so Bettman and Campbell can say 'Hey, look, we did do somehthing about it.' Secondly, yes Iggy did butt-end Matty. If you watched the NBC feed, you saw Iggy pull back, and thrust the butt-end of his stick into Matty's chest. Read the offical rule on NHL.com. Beyond the butt-end, it was a blantent attempt to injure. If you say it wasn't, then exactly what was it? Was Iggy just being kind enough to tell Matty he was backchecking? I knew Iggy wouldn't get suspended. He is the Flames. You take him out, and they have NO chance. And yes, I know, he only has 1 goal and like 8 shots in the series, but that's because Nick has shut him down. If Iggy isn't there, Nick will just shut down the next biggest threat, most likely Tanger. I'm not whining that Iggy didn't get suspended, I'm whining because I knew Bettman and Campbell didn't have the balls to take care of this. Finally, 5 games isn't enough. If the NHL truely takes into consideration the aftermath of the play, then why was May suspended for 3 games? He sucker punched Jonnson, and forced him out of the deciding game. 5 games is a slap on the wrist, espically to a backup goalie. Big deal, he gets to watch the first few games next year from the pressbox, enjoy a beer, and some of those noodles he loves so much. One last tidbit, I was informed via news article (I forget which webpage) that since the NHL league office is closed on Sundays, the suspensions wouldn't be handed down until Monday, anyone know if that is true?

There is no way anyone can aruge that Detroit has been deserving of all the penalties they have gotten. Case and point, I think it was game 4 when Dats was backchecking, and got called for hooking, when all he did was, mind you with one hand on his stick, slap the glove of the Calgary player. Dom has a rep for embelishing contact, Kipper doesn't. That is the difference in all the BS goaltender interference calls. I think it is just you. Obviously the ref had enough sense to blow the play down before someone got hurt (Iggy was in danger from Dom), otherwise, why would be blow down the play when Calgary had possesion? Detroit never touched the puck, much more the less gained possession. Dom was swinging at Iggy, he just either carpped out, or thought twice. Or maybe he just didn't think he could reach Iggy?

You have to respect the Canadian media for calling out the Flames like they did in that article. However, for those of you wondering why they keep saying Malts ran Kipper, just try watching the CBC feed. Every slight breeze with Kipper is considered a 'run'. That is the light it is shown in. They don't show what really happened, they only show the replays that favor teh Canadian teams.
-
First, let's get this out of the way right now. Kipper hasn't been run. He has been better at diving than Hasek has in this series. Any time and real contact has been made with Kipper, it's been due in large part to a Calgary player forcing a Detroit player into Kipper, and at that point, can you really expect the Detroit players not to run into Kipper? I mean, if that's where the Dman is pushing me, it's not my fault that's where I land. Sit back and take a look at the disallowed goal. Matlby was pushed into Kipper, should have been a good goal. So all you Calgary fans, please stop complaing, Kipper isn't getting run. I can't sit here and say that I would react the same way as I did. I am not sure how I would feel about that. I think that I would be in awe that Ozzie would do something like that. It just isn't the type of man Ozzie is. However, what I can use as sort of guideline if you will, was Haseks momentary loss of control when he started to swing his stick at Iggy. I was shocked, surprised, and mad. I couldn't believe that Dom did that, and he didn't even connect. I think he was just trying to scare Iggy, but we will never really know. Bottom line is this, it doesn't matter who it swinging a stick like that, it shouldn't happen. One more thought. A question to all of us Detroit fans. Why didn't anyone immeadieatly try to jump Mclennan? I don't care that he is a goalie, someone should have at least tried to get at him. It seemed that there was no real reaction from any of the guys on the ice. And as crazy as Dom is, you'd think he'd be down there to fight, or at least run his mouth a bit. If I am Hasek, I am going to at least verbally defend my teammate.

a disturbing stat for the wings since 2002

If we had acquired Luongo, we wouldn't have had to worry about resigning Pav, he would have been part of the deal. I am not going to pretend to know what the problem is, whatever it may be, it needs to get fixed. And yes, there is perfect reason to panic, look at the track record of this team since winning the last cup. -
Didn't Cheli invent dirt? Hah, he is a huge asset to our team. What hasn't this guy been through? He is tough, smart, and can play in any situation. If anything, I'd like to see him get more ice time. And boy, what a freakin' cannon he's got. Who else can break glass from center ice, off balance, on one foot?! That's just nuts.

FIrst, here is why you don't split of Nick and Matty on the PP unit. Doing that makes it easier for the PK unit to defend the booming shot from the point. Having the two of them together makes this much more difficult. I am all for shaking things up to see if we can get it going, but splitting up those two just isn't the right option. I would purpose that you leave the first PP unit intacted. For the second PP unit I would leave Nick and Matty out there. It's 2 minutes usually not a whole lot of skating involved, and these guys can handle the extra time. In a jam, you could throw in Lebda and Cheli. Up front, I'm just not sold on Lang. The biggest knock on him is the amout of turnovers he has. The PP is all about possession, so I think he has to be left off. I was also stunned to see Cleary on the PP in game 4. Yeah, he played a strong game in game 3, but I just don't see how that translates into PP time. But then again, I'm not a coach in the NHL either. On this second PP unit, my forward line would be Bert - Flip - Rex. (I am opting to dress Rex and sit Sammy) Bottom line, our special teams have been anything but special. Let's hope Babs can get something going!

EXACTLY!!!! That, and like Wings_Rule said, who goes alone? A friend of mine and I went to about 10-12 games this year, we always sit in section 210, row 23 or whichever row is as high as you can go. I like sitting up that high, it gives a great view of the ice. Anyhow, face falue for tickets there are $22-$30 per. With all the BS fees from ticketmaster, it would typically cost us around $60 for our tickets (the pair). I know the WIngs haven't raised ticket prices in years, but they were one of the few teams who didn't lower ticket prices after the lockout. Come on Illitch, GIVE US POOR FANS A BREAK!!!!!!!! I would LOVE to be at the Joe for a playoff game, but it's too expensive. Easily between my friend and I we would spend $300. That's crazy.
-
Lets be real, just for a quick moment. Your typical Wings fan simply just can't afford to go to a playoff game. Here is a simple breakdown of cost for 1 person to attend a game. Cheap ticket- $100 Parking - $25 Food - $20 Beverage - $10 Total - $155 Or, I could go to Cheli's, get food, beverage, and a great atmosphere to watch the game for about $30. Yeah, it'd be awesome to be there, but it's just too damn expensive.

WOW!!! Tell me you didn't love seeing Phaneuf get rocked. What a game Danny is having. We win or not, he has been the best player on the ice. GO WINGS!!!
-
I think the CBC bias everyone is talking about is simply this. The proper way to keep your ratings high. Seriously, who is watching more hockey, Canadians or Americans? That's right, Canadians are, so of course the broadcasts are going to show bias to the Canadian teams, nothing but marketing.
-
I read about this early today, seems like a lot of BS to me, he is one of the most promising young Russian talents, why do this?
-
That's crazy. Iginla had two other uncontested shots from about 40ft and Dom had no trouble with those. NO ONE in the NHL should score on an NHL goaltender with a wrist shot from 40ft out, when the goaltender can see it coming. Espically an 'elite' goaltender, which most people would suggest Dom is. Dom and Nick, along with every other Wing (except Cleary and Drapes) had an off night. We'll bounce back.
-
Anyone listen to the radio feed still? They play Supermassive Black Hole by Muse, it's a sweet song, check it out.

Let's be honest here people. The Markov penalty was a penalty. Here is why: Markov didn't just get run into, he threw his shoulder into the Calgary player. Watch the replay from the reverse angle. If Danny wouldn't have tried to get in the way, he wouldn't have gotten called. And no, the Calgary player wasn't trying to hit Danny, once the puck bounced over Danny's stick, the Calgary player changed his path, and that's when Danny threw his shoulder. Was it a questionable call? Yeah, but you can't argue that it was penalty worthy.
-
Gliding or striding aside, you would have to agree, in order for it to be a charge a player would have to go out of his way to make the hit. This just simply doesn't fit that mold. No way is it a charge. BTW, it is generally charging when a player goes out of his way to make the hit, and takes 3 or more strides without stopping to do so.
-
What at all gives it merit for charging? By the time Cleary had Phaneuf lined up, he wasn't striding, he was gliding. Watch the replay.
-
Hopefully the rest of the boys will get some of whatever Danny has beent eating before the games. He has been great. I am curious to see if Phaneuf got a concussion on the play, and if he did, will he play in game 4? How is that a charge? It isn't anywhere remotely near a charge. Please stop using this argument, it was a perfectly clean hit. If Cleary had bounced off Phaneuf, everyone would be talking about how much of a beast Phaneuf is. Bottom line is Phaneuf got rocked. He went down hard. Obviously when he got up he wasn't in Calgary.
-
It was a clean hit, no doubt, but in this still you posted, Cleary's feet are off the ice. Cleary didn't leave his feet until the hit was initiated. Just watch the replay. There is a link somewhere on page 3 of this thread. He blew up Phaneuf. And how much fun was it watching Phaneuf almost fall over after the goal? Well if we are using the link you posted, it clearly shows that Cleary stopped striding before he hit Phaneuf. A charging penalty is generally called when a player goes out of his way to lay a hit on another player, and doesn't stop striding. Even if you count the strides Cleary took, this cracks me up, he took 2 strides! One and a half if you want to get technical about it. It was a clean hit, get over it. And he wasn't 'targeting' Phaneuf. If you watch the replay (which I am becoming more and more convinced that you haven't) you'll see a little black thing on Phaneuf's stick, that's called the puck. The play follows it.

I think there is a huge difference between getting shut down on the PP by Kipper, and just not getting chances on Kipper on the PP. That being said, in games 1 and 2 we got chances, and we converted. In game 3 we didn't get many chances on the PP. Kipper didn't shut the PP down, the PP unit shut itself down. I think the Wings looked a bit tired, maybe it's the jet lag, who knows. We need to pick it up in game 4, and we will. Realisticly, all you hope for on the road is a split, which we are in position for. There is no doubt in my mind that we will see a different Wings team in game 4 than we saw last night.
