    What a hit by Cleary

If you look at the hit, Cleary didn't leave his feet before the hit, but during the hit, there is nothing wrong with that. The rule states that a player may not leave his feet in order to deliver a hit. There is no elbow, just as there was no elbow from Phaneuf on Pavs. Look at the post by MickMceough, check out the stills, pictures don't lie my friend. The only reason any part of Cleary's elbow MAY have come in contact with Phaneuf, would be due to the way Phaneuf was falling. If a player would recieve a penalty for a situation like this, every hit Chara delievers would be an elbow simply because he is so much taller than everyone else. It was a clean hit, get over it. You Calgary fans just can't get over the fact that your boy Phaneuf got his world rocked. Cleary had an up and down regualr season. There was a stretch of about 13-17 games where he was the best player on the team. I don't know what the problem is with the rest of the boys, but if they would have brought half the intensity that Cleary brought, the Wings would be up 3-0 right now.

    What a hit by Cleary

I haven't see any video available online that shows a great veiw like FSD did during the game. I have it tivo'd, I must have replayed that hit 20 times! FSD showed a shot that shows it was a clean hit, Phaneuf just lost his balance right before Danny hit him.

    What a hit by Cleary

The video clearly shows it was a clean hit. That simple little check didn't keep Bertuzzi out, now did it? Anyone who knows anything about hockey would agree that was a BS goaltender interference call. And before you post again, you should go back to the thrid grade and learn how to complile a string of thoughts into a paragraph.

    East vs. West

I think the East has a more even level of talent than the West does. This explains why the West has 7 of 8 playoff teams with 100 points. I think the West is the stronger conference. However, give the East some credit, afterall, a team like Tampa Bay may have just barely gotten in the playoffs, but they are still a solid team.

Bertuzzi Trade: Anybody got the full details?

The Panthers recieved Matthias, and up to 2 conditional picks. If Bert reups with the Wings, the Wings will send Florida one pick this year, and another next year. The two conditional picks are dependant on how many games Bert played in the regular season for one, and for the other, it was dependant on how many games Bert played in the playoffs, how many points he put up, and how far the Wings advanve in the playoffs

    Hasek and the playoffs

takes what serious? the fact that Manny (of last year) and Hasek have similiar stats?

    Brodeur's acheivement

I am too lazy to read all the other posts, but the few I read seem to think Marty isn't all tht great. Put him in a Wings jersey, and I bet we'd have won at least 4 more cups. That being said, regardless of opinion about the record being broken, it's GREAT for hockey, and something that is awesome, is Parent is all for it being broken. He doesn't care about extra wins coming in OT or a shootout, so why should anyone else? Afterall, it was his record.

    Hasek and the playoffs

First, in reply, Hasek has been good, not great, on a consistant basis. He has played great at times, but he has always played quite poorly at times. I shake my head when I read posts praising Hasek for his regular season 'greatness'. Even moreso when people compare him to Manny. Last season, Manny went 37-8-3 in 51 games with a GAA of 2.19 and a Sv% of .915 This season, Hasek went 38-11-6 in 56 games with a GAA of 2.05 and a S% of .913 Strickingly similiar, eh? I think people unfairly placed most of the blame on Manny. Let's not forget the collapse of the team surrounding him. I think this team is better than last years. We have grit. Pavs is HOT. I don't care who is in net, I just want to see him hoisting the cup at the end of a long playoff run. What coach in his right mind, or teammate for that matter would question his number 1 goalie? What they say to the media means nothing. Babcock starting Ozzie against Nashville does. What happens if we face Nashville in the playoffs? Ozzie get the nod there too? Hasek can't beat them.

    Interesting about the standings

i consider myself a diehard fan. i love to watch hockey, college, pro, whatever. i think the shootouts are a great idea, if for no other reason than it brings more casual fans to hockey. also, the players obviously like it. if they didn't you woulldn't see the celebrations after a shootout win that you do. if you get rid of the shootouts, you go back to having ties. that would make hockey the only north american sport with ties. bad idea. and yes i know, ties are possible in football, but how oftern does that happen? that's right almost never.

    Fedorov

This totally escapes me. I just don't get it. Why do people feel the need to boo Fedorov? I will never understand this. As much as I HATE Hasek, I would never boo him. It's just so goddamn disrespectful. Seriously people, look at what Fedorov did for us. Without him, we dont' win any of those 3 cups. Check the stats, in 96 he lead the team in playoff scoring. In 97 and 01 he was second in playoff scoring. All while being depended upon to shut down opposing teams top lines. He was crucial to our team, and we just aren't the same team without him. He left for personal reasons. It wasn't the money, Detroit offered him more money, or at least a comparable deal. He left because he was tired of the ridicule from fan like the ones who boo him now. All he did was play unbelieveable hockey here in Detroit. He was a winner. Every year was with Detroit, we made the playoffs. He averaged more than a point per game with Detroit, won the Hart, Pearson, and twice the Selke. Don't forget he was robbed of the Calder in 91 by Belfour. He is an undeniable talent. When the fans at the Joe boo him, I think about how so many of those same fans come home and start a thread on here about why Nashville fans are so stupid, rude, ect. You are acting in the same manner as they are. You are no better than they are. Last but not least. Fedorov was loved by the fans. If nothing else, the booing proves that. Afterall, if no one cared that he left, then why boo him? A name like Lapointe jumps to mind. And how will you react when Shanahan comes back? Please don't be as classless as you are when Fedorov is in town.

    Interesting about the standings

TSN had an article about this not too long ago. It actually wouldn't have changed teh standings that much. I like the shootout. But I think they should change to point scheme to make it more worthwhile to win in regulation or OT, to promote more offence during OT.
  18. BringHomeTheCup!

    Fedorov

First, a player of Fedorov's caliber should have been on the ice for 25 minutes a game. He wasn't. He did everything he was asked, and when he wasn't putting up ridiculous offensive numbers, he was benched. I won't argue with Scottie, obviously he knows a lil more about hockey than anyone here, but IMO you don't bench someone for not putting up numbers, aferall, it's hard to score from the bench. Second, the comparison to Hasek makes perfect sense. It does not matter how long he played here. The comparison wasn't about that. The comparison was about his distractions. Wich he was more of a distraction that Fedorov ever was. Third, Hasek DID complain about Joseph and Osgood. Just that unlike Fedorov, the media didn't crucify him for it. Fedorov never questioned Yzerman wearing the 'C'. Did he want it? Maybe. He never said he did, he never said he didn't like Yzerman. That's pure speculation on your part, and thus an irrelevant argument. Lastly, I never said Sergei was perfect, in fact, I think I said something like 'Fedorov caused his fair share of problems'. So why would you even bring that up? Actually, I think that was part of my post that you quoted. Did you actually read it? Can you read? Seriously, even Yzerman had his troubles here. He got coaches fired for christs sake! How is tha NOT a locker room issue? And up until Bowman came along, Yzerman was half the player Fedorov was, Yzerman WAS a defensive liability. It wasn't until Bowman convinced him to play defence that he became the solid two-way player everyone remembers.
  19. BringHomeTheCup!

    Fedorov

You make no sense. Has the booing caused Sergei to play worse? No. Has the booing caused him to miss a game at the Joe? No. The booing isn't doing anything, but motivating Sergei to play better. In fact, it's coutnerproductive. And the offer sheet he sigend with Carolina was not what Sergie was worth. If he was a UFA that year, he would have gotten $8 per, at least. No one wanted to give up the collection of picks they would have had to give Detroit if they signed him.
  20. Kronwall is injury prone. It's not if he gets injured, rather when. If the Wings had a legitament shot at getting him, they would. He is the most versatile player in the game, period. Seriously, let's but Pav on D and see how well he does. Of Nick at center. No one is a more complete player than Fedorov. I laugh when I read that Fedorov's sucess was because of his surrounding cast. Who did he have in 93-94 (statisticly his best year)? Dino? Kozlov? Chiasson? Probert? Burr? Sheppard? Yeah, that's right, he put up 120 points with them. You are right. It must have been all of Dino's great passes. And Probie burring all those passes from Fedorov. The guy was simply the best player on our team. No questions.
  21. BringHomeTheCup!

    Fedorov

That makes no sense. Why is it confrontational to ask someone why they are booing? The booing is disrespectful. Asking why someone is booing makes perfect sense, espically when there is no real reason to boo Fedorov. I have no problem with admitting that Fedorov did cause his fair share of problems on the Wings. But if you were the best player on the team, and weren't getting the ice time, wouldn't you complain? Something that I will never understand is how Fedorov can be booed for his antics, yet Hasek is praised. If for one second you think that Sergie's return wouldn't be welcomed, just look at Hasek and the mess he made. Then, try to say anything unkind about Hasek in a thread. People will go nuts on you. For some reason, they seem to have forgotten all the bulls*** he pulled. The same WOULD happen with Fedorov. And he would make the Wings infanitly better than Hasek does. No I didn't. The same fans that boo him now are the ones that give this reason for booing:'he left'. So, one would have to interpet that as they loved him when he was here, and are hurt that he left. One cannot deny that he was ridiculed when he was here, deservingly or not.
  22. Actually, if you do the math, it would cost about $1,408,780.40 to get him. That is taking the same nuber of games at the deadline as we had this year, 19, and multipling it by his per game saalary ($6,080,000 / 82 gives you $74,146.34 per game).
  23. Fedorov is getting old, but he is still one of the most talented players in the league. His salary wouldn't hurt us much, it would be very close to what we have to pay Bertuzzi this year. However, it does depend on who we sign in the off season, and how much we have to spend. I do agree the Jackets wouldn't just give him up, he is a much better player than KT, and look what Atlanta gave up for him. Fedorov would help out the Wings immensely.

    Any idea as to when

Judging from playoff seasons past, the Wings would play Thursday.
  25. BringHomeTheCup!

    Fedorov

What doesn't make sense here is just about everyone who is a proponet of the booing keeps saying get over it. When in fact, they are the ones who need to get over it. I can understand Cheli getting booed in Vancouver, or Betruzzi in Colorado. However, other than leaving Detroit for LESS money to play elsewhere, Fedorov did nothing to deserve the boos. Yes, it is your right to boo him at the Joe, or where ever else you may pay to see him play. But it just goes to show how stupid and classless you are.
