Shanny hasn't made it back to the Joe yet. Mac didn't have a choice is leaving, it wouldn't make sense to boo him. And Igor, he'd fit into a category with Marty Lapointe, no one cared.

I HATE Dom. I think he is lazy in net, doesn't think, and hurts the team a lot. He has been terrific at time this season, but he has been equally terrible at times. If it's not trying to get to a puck before it gets to the redline, it's having trouble deciding if he wants to play the puck behind our net (i.e. dallas game that cost us a goal). If the Wings must resign him, which I am praying Holland can work some more magic and find someone else, I can't see it being very cheap. I just don't like his style of play. And seriously, I think my niece who is 4 can skate better than he can!! All that being said, he does seem to step up his game in the playoffs. So here's to Dom and 16 wins in the playoffs.

One thing about AO's celebrations, they aren't excessive. They don't rival Tho Fleury or Peter Klima. He is just happy to score, in fact one of his first english phrases was 'I love to score goals'. He loves the game. Betweent him and Crosby, I would rather watch AO. For one, I am so tired about hearing how great Crosby is. Yeah, he is great, but not everything that he does is on purpose. I mean, the guy could dump a puck in the zone, have it hit a stantion, go off the defensmane, hit the goalie in the mask, and go in, and the announcers would say how great he is for pulling off such a precise shot. If you put AO on a team like Pittsburg, he'd be putting up points like Crosby too. Oh, and AO doesn't whine like Crosby.

$5.27 million, US dollars of course.Detroit will send a conditional pick – either a first-, second- or third-round selection – in this year’s draft and a conditional second-round pick in next year’s draft to obtain the services of Bertuzzi. I believe the first set of conditional picks depends on how far the Wings advance in the playoffs, and how much Bertuzzi is a part of that. Basicly, if he plays and we win the cup, we send a first rounder over. That being said, I think for the right price he is a great addition to the team. I don't think anything more than $4 million is really tangable for the Wings if we resign Pavel, which BTW I think we need to do. And TSN sources say Pav is close to inking a deal.

Nice research, I agree, I was wrong about them being a minor league team. However, just as you argue that I don't know what kind of leader Delvecchio was, you can't be certian that Stevie wouldn't have had the 'C'. -

While that makes Oz sound like one hell of a goalie, (just FYI I think he should be the starter) I don't think he has ever meant to a team what Sawchuck did to so many. Oz has never been a lights out goalie like Sawchuck was. Yzerman is known as 'The Captian'. I believe he had the longest tenured 'C' in any sport, ever. That says something about him. Delvecchio was a great player, but he isn't on Yzermans level. Stevie is up there all alone. No, you are wrong, I can, and DO hold it against him. He didn't get to wear the 'C' in those years because he wasn't the leader he needed to be. Stevie got it early, but he was a leader. Alex can't touch Stevie there. Stevie is the ultimate leader, and always will be. -

Three digit numbers was a joke, used to draw attention to teams retiring jerseys too much. I've ran across some pretty big tards on LGW, but I'm sure all of us here can manage counting to 99, and subtracting the number of retired jerseys to realize there are still enough left. Geesh.... -

Steve Yzerman wore the 'C' for how many years? So unless Alex is going to pull a Gordie and unretire to play again, he will never be in the same class as Stevie. -

HANDS DOWN SAN JOSE!!!!!!!!!! The only reason the Wings have had any trouble with these guys this year is the number of Power Play opps they get. Sorry, but in the playoffs they aren't going to get 15 chances a game. Plus they don't have 2 solid scoring lines. Stop Joe Thornton, and you stop the Sharks. I wouldn't mind seeing the Wild strictly based on the travel schedule. We always seem to face a west coast team in the first round. -

When I said what did Yzerman do, I didn't mean individual stats. He couldn't take his team to the summit. And until Scotty came along, Sergie was a much more complete player. However, I am not going to sit here and argue about Yzerman vs Fedorov. What I am arguing is that using your logic, Cups and tenure are what matters, and both Shanny and Sergie have spent the majority of their careers with Detroit, they have won cups with Detroit, and their most prosperous years are with Detorit. And IMO they are up there with the greats. Sergie and Shanny both revolutionized their style of play. At the time Alex played with the Caps, if my sources are correct, the AHL was a professional league, not juniors. And while I agree Delvecchio was a superb talent, and he was something special. I will diagree is putting him in the class with Stevie. Stevie is 'The Cap', Alex was a captian. -
Here is a question that just burns in my brain. During EVERY interview about the potential playoff matchups, the interviewee states 'There is no team that we want to play. Every team is a great team. Blah blah blah...' Is anyone else sick of hearing this answer? If this were the true answer, then why bother fighting so hard right now to get that top seed? It makes no logical sense. Seriouly, would you rather face Vancouver or Dallas? Calgary or San Jose? There has to be some preferance. If for no other reason than how your teams stacks up on paper against each team. For instance, I wouldn't mind facing San Jose, I know they have had our number during hte regular season, but that is due to in great deal, getting so many power play chances. In the playoffs, they are going to get 12 chances a game.

Again, JAGR WAS DEALT HE DIDN'T LEAVE, and Mess came back, yes, but he wasn't half the player he was, the reason he came back is because NO ONE wanted him. Not even Edmonton. That makes no difference. He still spent the majority of his career in Edmonton. Shanny left because he wasn't going to be a mojor part of the Wings plan this year. He went to a team where he could be a bigger part. Sergie left because the Wings wouldn't pay him, plane and simple. He deserved A LOT more than the Wings were offering. Can't blame him. -

If team loyalty comes into play, then how does Mess get his in NY? Jagr was traded to the Caps, and yes Forberg and Sergie did leave, but how does that diminish at all what they accomplished while they were with their teams? Forsberg will likely retire in the next few seasons, leaving the greatest part of his career with the Nordiques/Avs, and Sergie will have spent over half his career with the Wings. You can't compare anyone, even the other jersey retirees to Yzerman, he is in a class of his own. As for Jagr, he carried the Pens when they were the worst team in the league, and there was no hope left. He was dealt to the Caps and carried them. He is a great player and IMO deserves his 68 in the rafters at Mellon (or whatever it is when he retires) Your logic makes sense to only you. If you are counting not being on the team against them, you must also then agree that you can't retire any of the other jersey's, except Yzermans. Afterall, each of them played for other teams. -

More great things? What did Yzerman do that was so great before he won the cups? And after? I'll give you wearing the C. But you can't hold that against Sergei and Shanny. Nor can you count what Yzerman did in international play (mind you Shanny played with him and won gold as well) as reason why his Red Wings 19 should be retired. Is Yzerman mare deserving that Sergie or Shanny? Yes. But is Nick? No. What has Nick done in Detroit that is so special, that Shanny and Sergei haven't? The only thing he has on them is playing a few more years with the team, and wearing the 'C'. And, you can't count that against them as they aren't here to even be considered for the 'C'. -

1951-1952 He played 6 games in the AHL for Indianapolis Capitals. 3g, 6a, 4 PIM. He did also play for the Wings that year. -
What are you talking about? You make no sense here. Please clarify.

So if Nick decides he wants to join another NHL team or finish his career in Sweden he shouldn't get his jersey hung? Hell, with that line of thinking, lets climb in the rafters and cut down all teh jerseys except for Yzerman's. Afterall, every single one of those guys played on other teams. -
Osgood will be a Wing for at least one more year, he is signed through next season. That is unless he is traded. Lang isn't lazy. Lang isn't unmotivated. If you goto a game, watch him. He is smart. No he isn't the same player that he was in Washington, or Pittsburg, but he is magic with the puck. That being said, I don't think he is worth resigning. I also don't think Flip is ready to jump up to 15-20 minutes a night. I think we should try to attain a second tier FA, a scoring winger. We are deep enough at center.

True, but without Shanny and Sergei, we don't win the cups. If we don't win the cups, Steveie isn't a lock in the HOF. And quite possibly, he could have been dealt. If you remember, there was a lot of talk about Stevie getting traded right up until we finally won. Yes, it was just speculation, but so is how great Steveie would be without the cups. -
No doubt that playing for the wings is the best part about living in detroit. seriously, what else is there?

Kudos for the resaerch, but I think you are wrong on a few of these. Here are the problems I have with what you said. 4. New York Rangers - Right not to have a Gretzky hung? If I am correct, the league retired his 99. Every team should have some sort of banner recognizing this. 11. Vancouver - No cups means no great memories? So you are telling me that without his 2 cups, Mario's career would have no great memories? And did Gretzky win a cup after leaving Edmonton? No, yet he broke the all-time scoring record in L.A., that isn't a great memory? Ron Francis never won a cup with Carolina, yet his retirement is still of good choice? 12. L.A. Kings - Gretzky did more for that franchise than any player has done for any franchise, period. 13. Pittsburg Penguins - How does Jagr NOT get his 68 hung?! He won 2 cups, and spent 11 seasons there, what more do you want? 14. Edmonton Oilers - I'll concied Hamilton, but Coffey and Fuhr were very large parts of the cup years, how do they even come into question? 15. Colorado Avs - Yes, Raymond should not have a 77 there, but Forsberg IS desrving of his 21 to be hung there. Again, cups won and years spent. This seems to be your formula. He meets the criteria, his best years were there, he should get it. 19. Dallas Stars - Modano lost the 'C' because management wanted to bring in a young guy, Morrow, who will be the face of teh franchise for years to come. Modano is a great leader. I don't see why or how giving Morrow the 'C' changes that, but I still think it is a bad move that didn't sit well with Modano. 21. Toronto Maple Leafs - I like the idea of honoring numbers, rather than retiring them. I do not agree with the retiring of a chosen few based on tragedy, however. The reason I like the honoring method moreso than the retiring method is simply this: it's different. Also, if you look back at the storied history of the Leafs (or any original 6 team) there are dozens of numbers that you could make an argument for retirement. And at the rate that some teams are haning numbers from the rafters, well, sooner or later we are going to run out of two digit numbers. Then what? Letters? Maybe three digit numbers? Ha, it'll be intersting... Overall, great job on the post, I enjoyed it very much... No shanny no sergie? Do their years in red and white hoisting the cup mean less than stevie or nicks? without shanny and sergei we don't win any of the three cups! -

I was reading in another post about Grigs. Since the kid was drafted we have been hearing about how good he will be, and so on and so forth. If this kid is so good, why isn't he over here? He has been described as 'better than Ovechkin'. If that is even close to being true, why haven't the Wings made more of an effort to get him here? I've check his stats for the Russian team he is playing for, he isn't even leading the team in goals or assists. I know the car wreck set him back, but how much longer are we going to wait on this guy? That being said, what could we realisticly get for him in a trade? If he is so talented, wouldn't be bring back a substantial return? Say maybe like a Kopitar or Semin type player?

Does anyone know where I can find a list of current NHL salaries? I remember TSN had a listing in the offseason, but it doesn't appear to be there any longer.
