Eric Lindros, bust or biggest bust ever?
BringHomeTheCup! replied to BringHomeTheCup!'s topic in General
Here is the thing. He was great, for a few years. So what? He wasn't able to maintain it. And that is the bottom line. Without his name on the Cup, he needed to do more than just be good in the regular season for a few years. We aren't talking about first overall picks here. He is just a bust. Plain and simple. He was never the player he could have been. Yes, injuries played a large roll in that, but why should that make any difference? I could have taken my career to the next level, but a shoulder injury prevented that. Should I get any credit? No. Why? Because it didn't happen. Lindros never won anything. He was never lead the league in points, goals, or assits (yes, once he did tie for points, but Jagr scored more goals, so by default, the award was given to him) and he has only twice finished in the top 10 in points. What about him says HOF? Nothing. He never did anything he was supposed to do. He never dominated the league. He was a bust. -
Homer wouldn't get the national attention Rory did. Remember, he isn't a 'good guy' in the NHL, most fans in most cities hate him. Homer in an All-Star game is ridiculous. He doesn't deserve to be there. I'd rather see Rex get the write in vote. At least he can skate.

Eric Lindros, bust or biggest bust ever?

Philadelphia Flyers traded Ron Hextall, Peter Forsberg, Steve Duchesne, Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci, Chris Simon, 1st round selection (Jocelyn Thibault) in 1993, 1st round selection (later traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, later traded to the Washington Capitals - Nolan Baumgartner) in 1994 and cash to the Quebec Nordiques for Eric Lindros. He was not a bust? He never won anything. He never scored 50, and had 1 100+ point season. Yeah, he did have a few good years. He did have a pretty solid PPG output. However, he didn't live up to his potential, therefore is a bust. -
I don't know about that. For that to really be an issue, I think there would have to be more 'bubble' teams come playoff time. Look at last years bottom line: 92 points in the east (NYI) and 96 points by (CAL). 4 teams in the east had a legit shot, Toronto, Montreal, Carolina, and Florida. 1 team in the west had a legit shot, Colorado. Just a quick thought. I've always had a problem with the division winners being seeded 1, 2, and 3. I think that should be changed. My idea? Simply garuntee the division winners a playoff spot, not necessarily a top 3 spot. I think it would make the playoffs a but more interesting. You'd have the teams seeded from 'best' to 'worst'.

To be fair, Roy, Hasek, and Marty have won every Cup as a starter, Ozzie only has done that once.

what would it take to get vinny lecavalier?
BringHomeTheCup! replied to mwagner468's topic in General
This team hasn't been upgraded. I think most people on this board would agree that the Wings need a true second line scoring threat. I would have to agree with the assessment that the Wings, as is, aren't likely to win the Cup. Personally, I don't think that they will win with Dom in net either. But, that is a topic for another thread. Back to the topic.... To get Vinny out of Tampa Bay you need a few things: 1. Cap space If Tampa were to trade Vinny, the lucky team acquiring him would need at least $3 in cap space prior to the deal. 2. A quality starting goalie. Tampa Bay's biggest hole is in net. No doubt that problem would be addressed in any Vinny deal. 3. Compilation of picks/prospects/NHL roster players. Vinny is a top 5 player in the NHL, a franchise player. He would leave a huge void in Tampa. One that the fans would need to see filled. Even if it were just a guy like Flip, it needs to be someone with potential, and/or someone that is a current threat offensively. Let's not forget Vinny's goal scoring ability. Bottom line? Detroit would probably be about the 20th team on the list to get Vinny. The Wings simply don't have what it would take to get Vinny. -
All that article tells us is that he pulled out of the tourney because his foot still isn't right. Until Forsberg himself issues a statement in which he says he is retiring, then we won't know for sure if he is retiring. Even then it's still not concrete. Remember, this is Forsberg we are talking about.

the same Rodgers who played like 20 games in '99 and had like 2 points?
-
There has to be something somewhere near Toronto, maybe in London?
-
I always thought it would look sweet if the Wings had a third jersey. Personally, I would love to see the black jerseys on the boys. Those are pretty sharp, and if you get black shorts, socks, and helmets, maybe even gloves, it would be a nice little change for a few games a year. Just my two cents.

From what I've read, they want do a game with Detroit and Toronto. Most likely in Toronto due to the erratic weather in Michigan. Personally, I'd like to save things like this for the O-6 teams. It would be a great way to rekindle the rivalries.

The next question is, are the throwbacks going to be the new style, or old style?
-
The slash wasn't that bad. And one could argue that had Cheli not thrown that elbow, Thornton doesn't slash Z.

We could sit here and debate when this hit was started all day. But I don't feel like wasting the bandwidth. The bottom line is that Jones hit Bergeron from behind. It doesn't matter if Bergeron had the puck or not, he was driven into the dasher by Jones, from behind. Regardless, my argument still stands, how is this hit less suspendable? I will concede that Lemieux should have been suspended longer than Jones. However, both hits are just as worthy of a suspension.
-
Anyone have the clip?
-
Wrong, watch the , it's pretty clear that from the moment Bergeron crossed the goal line, Jones could read his numbers. Contact is made by Jones as Bergeron is releasing the puck, and obviously it's clear that it was from behind. Far less worthy? How so? I'd agree it wasn't as severe. I'd agree that Lemieux is far more 'worth' of a much more harsh penalty than Jones. But both his, without a doubt, meet the criteria for suspension. One is no more of a suspendable hit. Hits from behind that are as violent as this do result in suspension. Just as Chris Pronger.

Kenny took the exact risk last season with Dom. Some would say that risk was even higher. Worst case scenario if the Wings sign him? He gets injured, the Wings place him on IR so his salary doesn't count against the cap.
-
Do you remember what a joke that was?
-
If Gretz can be traded, anyone can. Keep in mind that Loungo has already been dealt twice. That being said, the Wings don't have anything close (that Kenny would be willing to part with) to the package it would take to obtain Loungo. Even if Kenny were willing to pull the trigger on such a deal, you have to wonder if he'd want to do such a thing within the conference.
-
My point is this, the Wings don't have what it would take to get an impact player like Kovie, or Ryder. In Williams the Hawks got a NHL roster player. Don't forget those 'few picks' contained a first rounder, and if Bert signed here, the Wings would have had to ship over another first rounder.
-
That's a nice idea, but with the precedent set last year with the Tzachuk, Bertuzzi, and Guerin deals, it will cost more than a couple of grade B prospects and a pick to get an impact player. I'd trade him for future considerations that later on turned out to be half of a puck. My point? He is exactly what you said, add to that he is eating up $3 in cap space. That cap space is much more valuable than what the Wings could get in return for Kronwall.

Jones may not have shown the intent to injure that Boulerice did, but the actions were just as brutal and results were far worse. While I am strictly against having results having anything to do with the punishment, I'm a strong supporter in punishing for what potentially could happen. That is, what Boulerice did, he wasn't punished for the injury sustained, rather for how brutal the act has or in other words, the potential injury it could have caused. I think this is one of those situations. Anyone who has ever played a game of hockey knows that there are numerous opportunities to take advantage of someone who is out of position, and hurt them. Jones should have let up, but he didn't. Now Bergeron will pay the price. Regardless how right or wrong it may be, I do think that Jones should have been punished more harshly simply for being a Flyer. Listen, obviously he didn't learn from the first hand experiences that he went through earlier this season. And a message needs to be sent to the Flyers organization, from the players all the way to the owners. I would also fine and suspend John Stevens.

Which active player will have his jersey retired?
BringHomeTheCup! replied to timothy1997's topic in General
While there is no doubt Crosby is a great player, it's too early to jump on the 'retire 87' bandwagon in Pittsburgh. What if he, for no reason, just starts to suck? Or leaves via free agency? Or gets traded? -
If he ends the season in the top 5 in points, I'd be surprised. That's not taking anything away from his talent. But with guys like Crosby, Thornton, Ovechkin, Spezza, and Heatly, it's pretty much a sure thing that in order to win the Art Ross, you have to break the 100 point mark. Something that I don't think Hank will do.

There is no way any of the prospects that the Wings have can be traded to fill the void on the second line. They just don't have the trade value. The only guy that might IMO is Kronwall. I say trade him before he get hurt AGAIN.
