Paraphrasing from the Red Wings Live pregame show. The NHL has warned Detroit Red Wings manager of Ice operations, Al Sobotka, to refrain from swinging the octopus when it is removed from the ice. If he does not heed the warning, he risks a fine. The reason for this? It can "incite the fans." Isn't that the #$*!ing point!! ></param><param'> ></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>&">></param><param'> ></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" />

redwings.nhl.com had that "Are You In?" video contest , not sure if you guys heard about it. You were supposed to make a 30-second video demonstrating/displaying what crazy, funny, or insane things you would do to get playoff tickets. The grand prize winner would get an executive suite to game 2 and invite 19 friends. The runner-up would get 4 tickets to an 09 regular season game. http://www.360mods.net/files/ChadThornburg.wmv There's my entry, let me know what you guys think of it Did anybody else make a video?

I might be able to get that clip recorded, but the next replay isn't until 7:30 PM on Wednesday.

I have to disagree. The replay system for the NFL has been a huge success since its implementation in 1999. If it wasn't, we wouldn't have it 9 years later. The system works - and it would work just as well in the NHL. There needs to be something to keep the officials in check. Right now the league's priorities are on fining players for shoving before a game .. not fixing the video review system. The NHL is so incompetent sometimes, it's not even a joke.

I'm going to have to be the minority with this one I guess. Yes, he had a great game tonight. He had that goal, and he traded roughing minutes with Afinogenov, and he was out there for the first goal as well. But one great game does not make me forget the other games. Just like Sammy scoring the other night doesn't make me forget how horrible he usually is. Maltby has been nothing this year. He doesn't fight, and I think some of you are overestimating his agitating abilities. For somebody who talks the talk as much as he does .. when was the last time he walked the walk? An agitator that refuses to fight is just annoying to me. At least Sean Avery will drop the gloves. Offense .. ugg. Yes, I realize he's not out there to produce points, but he's on the third line, you would think he would get something once in a while. He's not bad out there, it's not like he makes mistakes, but he's not good either. He's just .. nothing to me. Now after typing this I guess I could say the same for our entire checking line. Drake is just as bad as Maltby, but at least he dropped the gloves a few times. Draper was hot at the beginning of the year, but when was his last goal? Maybe I just don't have feelings for a checking line. They're just out there to eat up the clock .. and that makes for boring hockey to me. Maltby = an old agitator that rarely scores and never fights McCarty = an old agitator that rarely scores and fights McCarty > Maltby in my opinion

If this had happened in game 7 of the cup finals, imagine what would happen. The NHL would be the laughingstock of the sports world. The sole fact that the officials have made decisions on critical goals in two Red Wings games this year already has many Detroit fans thinking the NHL is a laughingstock. I'm kind of hoping that happens in the cup finals now, would be a wake up call. I don't think the issue here is the officials. It's a 80+ mph slapshot that disappeared. You'd have to be lucky to have seen where it went. I don't blame the officials for missing the puck. I blame the video review policy. In a game where a goal actually matters , questionable goals could determine the outcome of a season. The video review/challenge system works in the NFL. They instated it in 1999, and a survey that year showed that 87% of fans were in favor. That's an overwhelming majority. Review NFL fans today and I bet you would get similar numbers, meaning the system is a success. If the NHL wants to attract new fans, they need to ask both the fans and the players what is wanted. I think both would favor a better video review policy - whether it be at the officials' discretion or in the form of a challenge. I don't care which one, but something, anything, is better than what we have now.
-
Let the officials have the ability to determine if a play should be reviewed. That way, they won't "review everything" and abuse the system, but in a close game or questionable goals, they have the chance to use the video review if they decide. If the officials were given the choice of a review, it would have happened in both the Anaheim and San Jose game, and the outcomes of both games would have been different. Let the officials at least have a choice, don't limit them by the rulebook. That's a happy medium.

You can download the video clip in HD by right-clicking the following clip and save as.. http://www.360mods.net/hockey/bulls***.mp4

To the person(s) saying the Wings didn't play through .. how about watching it again. From the time the puck hits the ice to the time it's in the net is less than a second. So take your "play it through" comments and shove it up your ass, San Jose wasn't playing it through either, the puck just happened to bounce right to a guy, right in front of the net. http://www.nhl.tv/team/launch.htm?hlg=2007...mp;event=DET350 Found a poor quality youtube.

NBC will pick a "game of the week" out of 3-4 possible matches. Detroit isn't on every week, they are a candidate every week. Which means they will probably be on 2-3 times on NBC at most. NHL on NBC

I cap and upload Wings games on www.nhltorrents.co.uk day after the game. Not exactly legal, but good if you miss a game.

Haha, datsyukonethree got that from CIFN. Member there as well.

If you guys don't mind getting the games the day after, you should check out http://nhltorrents.co.uk. This isn't me trying to spam a site, just trying to help. I will be trying to capture every Red Wings game this year and uploading them there. It's all completely free, the only thing you're required to do is seed the torrents after you've downloaded them. For those of you not familiar with bittorrent, it is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol. The advantage of bittorrent is that Instead of conventional downloads, where a file is on a single server, and everybody downloads from that server, bittorrent spreads it out. If a file is popular, using the conventional downloads method isn't a good idea because it kills that servers and eats the bandwidth. When using bittorrent, everybody is a sharer. The file (in this example, a game video) is split into parts. If you have a part that I don't have, I get it from you. If I have a part that you don't have, you get it from me. Imagine this situation, but with 30 people. Everybody supplying/getting just the parts that are needed. All you need is a bittorrent client like utorrent (also free). The site I mentioned is a private bitorrent tracker, which means you must register at the site in order to download the torrents, and your download/upload statistics are monitored. In the bittorrent world, downloading from another person means "leeching" and uploading to another person means "seeding." As long as your share ratio stays above 0.3, you should be fine. That just means you upload at least 30% of what you download, although you really should upload more to avoid being banned from the site. Might sound all complicated, but it really isn't. You just download a small file, open it with your bittorrent client, and it starts downloading, easy as that. I have already uploaded the 2007 Detroit Red Wings Season Preview show, and both regular season games. You can preview the video quality with this sample: Download Sample Video Here If you have high-speed internet, it's worth looking into. It's all completely free, and if I have the time, I will continue capturing all the Red Wings games this year.
