It did look like there were a lot of empty seats in the lower bowl during the game though. Granted, I missed the first half of the game, but the rows of empty seats that I've come to expect were (depressingly) there in the second half. It may have been louder than normal, and the game may be reported as a sellout, but it looked like the lower bowl was as (un)occupied as it normally is. Which makes me sad. I'd love to see video of the first shift too, if anyone can upload it to YouTube.

Has Rick Nash attempted a spin-o-rama move 3 times already, or did I just imagine that?

Yes that's how I'm watching it. I have to say, I was a little disappointed with the choice of this game when I first got the set a few years ago. I would have preferred Game 2 of the WCF from 1997 or Game 2 of the SCF from 1998. But actually this game is so much damn fun to watch, it's perfect for this box set. The game that actually stands out as pretty boring is game 3 of the SCF from 2002. Carolina clutching and grabbing their way to a late 2-1 lead, Hull tying it late, 2 rather boring OT periods and Larionov scoring in the 3OT. Would have made a better highlight reel. Game 2, SCF '98 was in my recollection the most exciting game I've ever seen.

I was at a bar in Madison WI, with a few of my Michiganian friends and other people who didn't care about the game. I was extremely nervous and regretting agreeing to go out to watch the game. But it turnde out to be the perfect game to watch with a bunch of people. I could relax and have fun starting from about half-way through the first period. This thread has inspired me to rewatch that game until the start of tonight's game. It's funny, there was a long stoppage in play about 30 sec into the game to get some octopus sludge off the ice, and the ESPN commentators made a big deal about how that would take the crowd out of the game and how it would be detrimental to the wings. Yeah, that didn't last long.
-
Me too. I had a dream a few nights ago that the wings won in OT. I had a hard time falling back asleep after that due to excitement. Don't know how I'm going to sleep after the real thing.
-
My god, that was sweet! I have to admit, I missed the last two times the wings won a series in OT because I went to sleep too early. Yes, that includes the 2OT game against the Blues in '96. So, so happy I have learned to stay up past 11PM now. Nothing in sports rivals the feeling of an OT playoff goal.

I thought the CBC bias showed through in the replays as well, especially on the Cleary hit/Draper goal. I feel like they only showed one replay of the hit, or at least only one angle. If it had been Phanuef landing the hit, instead of taking it, they would have shown it from every different angle they had throughout the rest of the game. Instead they showed 30 seconds of Phanuef looking groggy, which was fun too I guess. I don't have CBC anymore, but I seem to recall always preferring CBC to ESPN when I used to live in Detroit. But this year and last year during the playoffs, when Vs. has shown CBC feeds I find they have several of the same problems as NBC and Vs. Last night, they missed several face-offs while either showing close-ups or graphics, and often chose camera angles that were as bad as anything I've seen on Vs. or NBC. Added to the biased production team, I'm actually finding myself preferring the Vs. broadcasts. Plus, it doesn't seem to help that the wings have lost nearly every time Vs. has shown a CBC feed.

Keith Jones also advocated SO in the playoffs during one of the intermission shows on Vs. the day after the 4OT game. He played in two >4OT games with the Penguins and said that he was in favor of having the first OT be 5 on 5, 2nd OT 4 on 4, 3rd OT 3 on 3, and then a shoot-out. While I respect the fact that he played in two of those marathon games, and believe he has much more credibility than Kara Yorio, I still think his opinion is idiotic. Also, Actually if a match is tied 6-6 at the end of the fifth set, the tie-breaker is to keep playing games until one player gets a two-game lead. So it can end up being quite a marathon, just like a 4OT NHL playoff game.

The Vs. guys just mentioned Jiri Fischer pounding Hartnell. Nice.
-
Did anyone just see Keith Jones say he'd like a shootout in playoff hockey games on Hockey Central on VS.? They were talking about the 4OT game and saying it was brining down the level of play because the players are too tired for the rest of the series, and Jones (who played in 2 extremely long games with the Pens) said he favors having 1 period of 5 on 5, then 4 on 4 for a period, then 3 on 3 for a period, then a shootout. I don't even know what to say about that. Except dumb.

I really hate this 1PM Sunday game. The wings have been bad in these early matinées, as well as in the second of back-to-back games, which may be necessitated because of the 1PM game. Add that to the fact that Detroit has been terrible on the road against Western Canada, and I think this match-up/schedule fully exploits the wings' biggest weak points from the regular season. Obviously both teams suffer with the 1PM and back-to-back games, but that doesn't make me feel better. The 1PM games just suck in general. Calgary fans have to watch the game at 11AM? West coast NHL fans at 10AM? This is supposed to promote the game in this country, when some of the biggest markets will still be asleep when the game starts? And on a selfish note, I have conflicts for the Thursday and Sunday games, and would much much prefer Thurs/Sat/Tues or Wed/Fri/Sun. At least I would only miss one game either way.

They just showed it again, so I feel more comfortable now. As for the helmet, had to keep the hair looking good. Helmet hair is a huge turn off.
-
Hopefully. They showed the message at the beginning of the 3rd period, but haven't shown it since. Maybe the agreement fell through. Or maybe they just want to forget the whole ordeal.
-
Versus just scrolled a message during the Pens/Sabres game saying they've reached an agreement with Charter and service will not be disrupted.
