The alternative to Europeans on this team would have been some lean years in which Detroit was not a real contender for the cup. Using low draft picks to select high talent from Europe has kept us as a top contender for the cup without ever having to have bad seasons in order to draft high north american talent. I'm pretty happy about it to be honest.

get your fill of Crosby now because when the Ducks draft Tavares he'll be all you heart about anymore

Clipping is the act of throwing the body, from any direction, across or below the knees of an opponent. # A player may not deliver a check in a "clipping" manner, nor lower his own body position to deliver a check on or below an opponent's knees. # An illegal "low hit" is a check that is delivered by a player who may or may not have both skates on the ice, with his sole intent to check the opponent in the area of his knees. A player may not lower his body position to deliver a check to an opponent's knees. A player who commits these fouls will be assessed a minor penalty for "clipping". If an injury occurs as a result of this "clipping" check, the player must be assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct.

right, so it was an illegal play... I'm not really sure what we are disagreeing on here. Its a lot more difficult for Gaborik to avoid Hasek in that split second he has his head up if Hasek is coming right at him than it would be if he was coming off to the side.
-
dude 1)it isn't at all clear 2) Im quoting what the goalie in question said 3) if you think watching the speed at which that play happened that hasek wasn't going to have significant contact with Gaborik... well
-
There aren't words to express the pure disbelief at the idea that this "hit"(how was it a hit again?) was legal. Even if it wasn't a trip, its a clear cut clip.
-
Prove it. His entire body was almost directly centered on Gaborik; he reached for the puck true, however as he admitted Gaborik had his head down. IF Hasek(as he had said) saw that Gaborik had his head down, it isn't unreasonable to assume he expected contact. I'm still stunned no one on this board thinks that play was a penalty and oh, yeah. whoever was criticizing me for saying I don't quite believe hasek is back to normal after two games where he barely had to do any real work, I'd like you to show me why exactly you think he is.
-
it will be the worst offense EVER and everyone will immediately call for masons suspension on such a dirty dirty play
-
and when a puck misses a guys throat by a couple of inches, or a stick misses a guys eye by a couple of inches, it didn't almost seriously hurt them? Gaborik almost landed on his head. That would have certainly caused serious neck damage. He slides right into Gaborik's legs like a soccer tackle. That has never been allowed in hockey.

Hasek to Dominate 'Canes...Ozzie will own Preds

Besides people on this board and ken and mickey whining like little schoolboys because hasek's precious shutout might have ended on that Wild PP, i have found no one who doesn't think it was penalty. What bias? I was commenting on the ridiculous idea that a goalie should do whatever it takes to stop the puck from going into the net; you are finding bias where you want there to be one while I was only arguing an idea that had nothing to do with hasek. -
Extremely low hits like that will always be called, especially when it's almost impossible to determine whether or not he got the puck before he took Gaborik's legs out.
-
Wasn't a "hit", it was a trip. and it was "suspect" not because it was Dom but because it was 1) an illegal play(trip) that 2) almost ended a guys career

hell yeah man, if i was Hasek I would have taken my stick and chopped at the guys face, i stopped the puck from going in the net didn't I?? -
wooo yeah he almost broke that guys neck clearly this means his ability at stopping pucks is back where it used to be oh wait

Personally I would rather have seen Hasek make a fantastic save that everyone on this board is so confident he can make. Generally I don't much like players intentionally taking the legs out from under other players no matter the circumstances because its a pretty low move to make no pun intended -

Oh no's, I've commented negatively on Redmond and CROSSED THE LINE -

And Bergeron wouldn't be out for the season if he hadn't gone after the puck with his back to Jones. Give me a break -

I'm pretty sure the fact that Redmond is one of the biggest homers in the broadcasting business kind of makes that argument weightless. -

I'm just astonished by how fickle this board is. Hasek has a couple of bad games and people jump all over him. He then has a stretch of bad games and people's criticism of him becomes justified. Then he starts in two games where the team in front of him barely requires him to do any work at all and all of a sudden he's "back to normal"? BS. We haven't seen any proof either way yet. -

I particularly liked the part where he was challenged in the game and had to be spectacular in order for us to win? after my initial reaction of extreme laughter I was simply happy that we avoided a controversy here in Detroit by a few inches. wasn't really a check either -
interesting thought, if Gaborik had broken his neck would the league have take action against Hasek?
-
that move by Hasek had me laughing uncontrollably. That being said, why is it that 2 games in a row where the opposition plays pretty lackluster and barely challenges Hasek equates to him "being back"? Get back to me when he steals a game for us; until then Osgood is the number one goalie plan and simple.

Z from dats with a nice screen by the ref

They look pretty sharp, but Minny's D is doing its usual thing. Not letting the wings get many shots on goal. Dats is flying in particular, and the 4th line looks good tonight..
