Why are we talking about this? I thought it was pretty much already set it stone on this board what is going to happen? Holland trades for SERGEI FEDOROV at the trade deadline for 3rd round pick and Meech. He then comes to Detroit and becomes HOCKEY JESUS, grabbing the team by its reins and leading us to sweeps over the Hawks(1st round) Ducks(2nd round) Avalanche(3rd round) . SERGEI FEDOROV gets at least 4 points in every playoff game and plays every penalty kill and power play and becomes the bona fide enforcer for the team. Then, in game 7 against the Senators in the last seconds of quadruple overtime SERGEI FEDOROV steals the puck and races down the ice, dekes the goalie and scores with just half a second left. Immediately as the confetti falls and the crowd roars Steve Yzerman jumps from the rafters, pulling a rope down with him that raises NUMBER NINETY ONE to the rafters while choirs of angels sing Fedorovs name to the heavens...

Sweden might withdraw from Player Transfer Agreement
omnipotent_hudler replied to FinRedWing's topic in General
The Wings have always(since illitch) drawn their strength from the draft. Its generally considered to be the best way to build a team up. Going after big name FA's with large amounts of $$$$(especially in the cap era) isn't going to produce successful teams most of the time. We've been able to transition pretty smoothly from a 3 time stanely cup winning team to a team that is still challenging for it with no "slump" period not because we went out and got big name FA's but because we were able to find gems in the draft. We have the best Swedish scouting team in the NHL at the moment. A lack of players from Sweden will hurt us simply because we are set up right now as a team that can find diamonds in the rough from Sweden more than any other country. -

If anyone was looking for a harbinger of an impending Wings decline, here it is. -
McCarty isn't going to play for the Wings again, team has too much depth at this point for him to crack the roster(unless he somehow magically regains his old form). Whoever suggested that he work as a broadcaster has the right idea. I mean, it can't be any worse than Larry Murphy can it?
-
Believe me, I realize this. But McCarty is more than just another player to most Wings fans. They could probably use him in some sort of PR capacity I'd imagine. If the guy still has his band kept together maybe the marketing dept could use it in some capacity(our marketing couldn't really get any worse anyways).
-
He should at least be offered a job with the organization.... Nothing big, but I'm sure they can find something to do with him.
-
Hudler doesn't expect any special treatment out there. Hell, half the time in scrums around the net hes the only Wing who's doing any serious pushing or shoving. He fully expects to get his ass beat and he just keeps trucking and not taking any s*** from anyone which is why he is awesome.

Yzerman and Sakic are like 1A and 1B...

funny, I thought the important thing was that we lost. How many more games until Hasek "gets his game back"? Osgood is our better goalie right now; So why is he not playing? I'm sick of this assurance that Hasek is going to get his game back. I don't care, because I see a perfectly good goalie who has his game right now. That goalie was on the bench tonight.
-
are you always this angry or is it only when the internet wishes hasek would cover his rebounds
-
About as much as Hasek cares to cover his rebounds
-
Isn't it obvious? It's Hasek. I'm so sorry

Please tell me one of you who are recording the game are going to post a screencap of that fan that FSN showed after the goal. please

What is wrong with our powerplay What is wrong with out powerplay What is wrong with out powerplay What is wrong with out powerplay Seriously, every single game the opposing team manages to get a breakaway against us while we're on the pp

We have the best Swedish scouting in the NHL, so it makes sense that we'd go after Swedes since we know them better. We got some really good Russians back when it was much more difficult to scout Russians because we had some scouts over there. Now that most of the NHL has caught on to Russians it isn't as easy to get steals from there as it once was.

There's too many "if" scenarios to tell. A lot of factors will come into play... It looks like we have some promising prospects on our blueline and a couple on O, but will they pan out? Will Howard be a legit #1 goalie? If not, can we swing a deal for a #1 or pick one up during free agency? I don't really see this team missing the playoffs any time soon in any case. The management really has done a good job with this team in terms of young talent... on Offense we have Z and Dats for atleast 10 more years. We have Filpulla starting to emerge as possibly being a solid second liner. Franzen as well. Emmerton, Ritola, and Ryno all look pretty decent as offensive prospects. Kindl, Ericcson, and Quincy are the same.... Will this team be #1 or 2 year in and year out? No... but i really doubt we miss the playoffs outright

11/18 GDT: Red Wings 5, Columbus Blue Jackets 4 (SO)

We didn't play great, but I didn't really expect us to on a back to back game(with travel included). The fact that we squeezed out 2 points is good, considering we really should have had the last 2 games. -
The consensus seems to be that he needs more shots to get back into top form. The problem is that no one knows how many "more shots" he needs and how many "more shots" will be back breaking goals against us. Every point matters and we should go with our best goalie every game. Are you really going to tell me that Hasek is our best goalie right now?
-
The breakaways were terrible. But your goalie has to be able to bail your team out in its worst moment. Hasek hasn't done that once this season. Redmond said it best. Hasek isn't himself.

Flyers willing to trade J Carter for defensive forward
omnipotent_hudler replied to a topic in General
Uh... we have way too many centers on this team. dats, hank, Franzen, Draper, Kopecky, Filp... Hudler and Cleary were originally centers as well iirc but its been a while since they've played it. Anyways, Carter is a good player, but I wouldn't give up too much for him. We have a strong core and we don't really need another center in any case. Filp for Carter might be acceptable, but anything more than that is iffy. Filp has already proven himself to be an extremely responsible defensive player, and you can see the offensive talent starting to emerge.... I guess I just don't like trading away a player that I know is pretty good and has a lot of potential for a player I haven't seen nearly as much. But perhaps some of you folks with center ice know better than I do in this case.
