    Carolina looking for a Dman

We don't have what Carolina is looking for. Offensive D-man? Only Lidstrom, Rafalski and Lebda fit that bill. Cole is not worth either Lids or Rafalski, and Lebda isn't worth Cole by himself. Kronner is supposed to mature into an offensive D-man, but he hasn't really done that yet. So the only trade possibility would be something like Lebda+prospect.

Should Pavel and Hank stay on the same line?

There is not a yes no answer to this question. The real answer is that we need two lines that can consistently get points for us every game. If that means splitting Dats and Z up, then so be if. HOWEVER, if splitting them up leads to two dud lines, then put them back together. The loss of Franzen hurt the team in that the line of Homer-Dats-Franzen, which was clicking pretty well was broken up. I personally think a Dats-Zetts-Homer line as line number 1 with a Hudler-Filp-Sammy combo could work decently.

    Niedermayer and Selanne

Nieds will be back after the half way mark. He'll be fresh for the playoffs and I think him coming back that late negates some of his salary cap hit.

10/10 GDT: Red Wings 4, Calgary Flames 2

Calgary is going to come out with a fire under their ass after their poor start. Detroit better have their defensive problems worked out better in this game otherwise it'll be a long night for us.

    10/6 GDT: Blackhawks 4, Wings 3 (SO)

LETSGOWINGS.com- RuutuandHavlatownZetterberg wasn't about to back up his trash talk by actually taking some risk on his team. The poster, who many speculate has not left his computer chair in years, refused to take up a bet by a fellow LGW member. Commenting on his lack of balls, RuutuandHavlatownZetterberg deflected attention from the bet by citing his lack of money. "I just, you know, blew it on porn sites. I totally would have made that bet if I had the money, but I have enough trouble sneaking it from my moms wallet. But know this, the BlackHawks are totally going to win the Central Division this year. The Stanley cup, too." The bet, which was made for an amount of $20, was on whether or not the Red Wings would take the Central Division this year. RuutuandHavlatownZetterberg has often made the claim that the Wings will fall to the BlackHawks this year, oddly enough citing players like Robert Lang and Brent Sopel as reasons that this will happen. While such statements seem like contradictions to all reason, it remains to be seen whether this curious poster suffers from mental disorders that may explain his behavior.

    if anyone cares,,,

I think as much as everyone looks forward to the hockey season starting again there's always a bit of nervousness... A couple losses look so much worse at the beginning of the season than they do midway through since there's no wins to pad the record... It's one of the reasons that hockey boards, this one especially tend to go bat s*** insane when the team takes some losses at the start of the season. The Ducks will do just fine this year, they really had a brutal schedule to start the year which is kinda unfair but then again they are the defending cup champs so I don't feel that much sympathy.

I'd just like to say that you, sir, are absolutely crazy. Remember the beginning of last years season? Much worse than a sloppy third period in a single game. And we completely forgot our season then, didn't we?

That Franzen injury is making me extremely worried. Our top two lines won't be nearly as good without him. My blood is boiling here, that's just god awful luck if hes out for any length of time.

    Official Downey On Waivers

This is probably the most retarded thing I have ever heard in my life. Hey guys, I'm a marine but I wear a bullet proof vest in battle so don't respect me OK?

    Hockeytown is DEAD

OK folks, I'm not trying to make excuses for non sell out crowds at the Joe but in light of the poor economy I did some research on arena capacities. The attendance at the Joe last night was 17,610. In the following arenas that would have been a sell out or beyond Arrowhead Pond(Ducks) Reunion Arena(Stars) San Jose Arena(Sharks) America West Arena(Coyotes) Skyreach Centre(Oilers) Gaylord Entertainment Center(Nashville) Nassau Coliseum(Islanders) Mellon Arena(Pittsburgh) Fleet Center(Bruins)

    Fighting Haters

hahaha no, you can't derive that meaning from that statement without further statements. Once again there's this idiotic idea that there are "anti-fighters". There's no anti-fighters. I'm anti- fighter-who-can-do-nothing-else-but-fight-and-spends-every-game-in-the-penalty-box. Big difference.

    Hockeytown is DEAD

This. Although it sucks seeing the empty seats, I think the Wings are as popular as they have always been. I think there are a lot of fans who are now out of state that simply can't make the games. Outside the Rangers I believe the Red Wings still have the highest national tv draw. I also recall reading somewhere that the Winged Wheel is the most recognized sports symbol in the world. Mike still has the money from the fans, the fans spent it on the Tigers this year. And they probably will next year too. Baseball is just the new sport in this town, and as infuriating as it is to me that the Wings get very little respect for setting jaw dropping records in terms of winning and winning and winning and winning and winning, it is something I can learn to accept.

How concerned are you with the #1 Line?

Not at all concerned yet The line looked brilliant during the pre season, they were decent last night. Of course last night they were facing Anaheim's toughest D unit every time they stepped onto the ice. I'm more concerned with the second line myself.

    Hockeytown is DEAD

It's a shame how fickle the fans are. This argument about "north american" players has problems that can't easily be corrected. If the Wings want highly talented north american players they will have to have higher draft picks in order to get them. That means losing seasons. And when the Wings start losing, everyone will blast them for not winning and say that's why they're not going to the games Like it or not, the management of this team has kept us right at the door of the stanely cup for 16 years in a row. Instead of going through a "rebuilding" phase they simply cycled in new talent. And they did that by getting the highest possible talent they could have gotten with low draft picks. Most of that talent came from Europe, as the talented north american players are taken with the highest picks in the draft. So the Wings style of play is predictable? I like that. Why? Because it's predictable in this way: That they will win and they will win frequently. I'd rather see a "predictable" team that wins than an "unpredictable" team that "might" win. They've already set a record for consecutive playoff appearances in all of sports and I don't see them missing the playoffs in the next 3 years. Apparently this isn't good enough for people, though. They'd rather have "good ol' fashioned North American players". Well, I've got news for all of them. Get ready for a rebuilding phase and losing seasons. I look forward to hearing your hypocritical voice on radio talk shows when the Wings start losing because they are taking your retarded advice of getting worthless rough and tough players from north america with low picks instead of using those same low picks to get highly talented players from Europe.

    10/3 GDT: Red Wings 3, Anaheim Ducks 2 (F/SO)

I'm very impressed at how well we played tonight... We dominated the play against the defending cup champs and they had a two game head start to the season. That being said, a couple of things bothered me: Rafalski... I'm sure he's just taking a bit to get used to our system, but seriously, what the hell was that turnover in OT about? Bertuzzi: He's actually looking good. Something tells me we're going to regret not signing him. Chelios: Was looking a little slower than usual out there. Some good things: Sammy actually throwing the body around just a bit? Drake fighting Zetterberg looking even better than last year, if thats possible The power play clicking The 1st line of dats-homer-franzen looks great still and most importantly: Hudler proving his omnipotence to non believers in the shootout

    Sopel signs with Chicago

QFT Although I'm disappointed that Quincy broke his hand. Personally I think he's better than Meech. Hopefully his hand will heal up by the time we need him.

    Bucci's preseason predictions

I think you love to throw out actual evidence backing up peoples arguments about this team right now; not the team from two years ago. Instead, you prefer basing your arguments on your "feelings" about the team.

Surprise! EDGE jerseys not so popular

So it seems that the new EDGE jerseys are causing some problems for players. Specifically, the "moisture wicking" fabric causes the moisture to go straight into skates, gloves, equipment etc., causing quite a bit of discomfort for players. The players on the Penguins have actually come out and voiced their concerns over this, but the problems they are describing are problems with the fabric itself, so I'm sure players on other teams are likely having the same issue. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07266/819908-61.stm Now, I'll be the first to say that I like the look of the new jerseys. But I always thought it was kind of interesting how the only practice run players got with the jerseys was at the all star game and a few practice sessions during last years season. If it turns out that this a complaint lodged by a majority of players in the coming weeks ahead, the NHL is going to look very stupid indeed.

    Like him more every day.

You kidding me? Lilja was one of our best damn defensemen in the playoffs last season. He f***ed up in one game, but besides that he was absolutely invaluable. Samuelesson was coming off an injury last year. Does he have a lot to prove this year if he wants to stay on the team? Hell yes. But in my mind he has a lot less to prove than Downey does, although apparently getting into a few fights in the pre season should make you a lock for the team. Our 4th line right now is Maltby-Kopecky- Drake Downey has yet to prove that he is a better hockey player than any of those 4. Period. "Don't make juvenille statements! <Insert juvenile statement>" Dear HUUURR NORTH AMERICAN HOCKEY guy, Let me know when you find a fighter who can actually play the game as well. Also, please let me know once you find one that doesn't average two minutes of penalties per game playing mostly 4th line minutes No, it's basically truth. Once again you have two threads that are just links to youtube videos. Oh yes! I completely forgot about your all caps commentary in the other one though! I guess these threads are completely different after all. My bad. Hurray for generalized statements without evidence. By the way, no one arguing against Downey as the 13th forward is arguing for Grigs to be there instead. They both suck. But, oh, wait! Downey has goals in the PRESEASON guys! Clearly he has demonstrated without doubt that he is a talented goal scorer. :!:
