    Best Lines for upcoming season

"This crowd doesn't know what a penalty is!" Oh Redmond Lapointe-Toews-Havlat Malkin-Crosby-Sykora Gagne-Briere-Hartnell Shanahan-Gomez(Drury)-Jagr and I think out of these players the Wings will put up a scary line again, i really, really, really hope that they can do it and still keep Datsyuk and Zetterberg split up. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Filpulla, Holmstrom, Cleary, Samuelsson, Grigorenko, Franzen

It's unnecessary suffering. Most people like to believe, whether it's true or not, that the meat they eat comes from sources where the animals are killed humanely. Whether the meat itself is necessary is a whole other argument. Regardless, these dogs were not killed in any way that even came close to resembling a humane killing. That's why people are pissed. Hunting is another argument entirely.

    2007 US Open

How long until Federer is just auto placed into the final match and the slam tourney's become a competition to see who gets to face him? That being said, as much as I feel bad for Roddick(and anyone else who is playing during Federer's soul devouring reign of terror), I still enjoy watching the matches because I know I'm watching a legend in the making.

    2007 US Open

Did anyone see last nights match of Federer vs. Lopez? Christ.... Of all the great athletes out there who are the "best" in their respective sports(Woods, Crosby etc.), I don't think anyone even comes close to touching this guy. It was as if in the second set he just decided he was done losing and just "turned it on"... Lopez never stood a chance from then on.

    The Wings' biggest obstacle

I clicked this topic thinking it would be about how the boards at the Joe had been replaced and were now dead, therefore making it tougher for the wings to bounce shots/passes off of them this season.

AO in a night club brawl in Moscow

I couldn't agree more. In my everyday life, this is the exact approach I take. Do everything for the least amount of money possible, and never seek to maximize my monetary gains. That's just how I roll, and I think Markov should as well.

You're failing pretty poorly as your conclusions (which have contradicted each other several times in this thread) have already been tested and found to be unsupported(See 20th century). We're all dumb for getting pissed off about inhumane treatment of (partially) sentient beings, then?

    Well, we're a season past Yzerman's retirement

What? This logic makes no sense considering Yzerman had said that if the wings had won the cup in 05/06 that he would have retired, going out in the same way Scotty did.
  11. omnipotent_hudler

    Well, we're a season past Yzerman's retirement

No, because I watched the team play and players like Datsyuk and Zetterberg finally started stepping up. Younger players like Franzen and Filpulla made contributions whereas before they would of had little ice time. There was no longer any expectation on the bench that Steve or Shanny would save the day out there, so players got off their asses and did something about it. Yzerman retired partly because he realized this. That, plus he saw the decline in his play unlike so many other players who end up staying in the league way too long. In several interviews where the questions is brought up Yzerman says that his presence may have unintentionally been stifling the performance of younger players in his last couple of years on the team. Retiring was the best thing Stevie could do to help the team at the end of the 05/06 season, and he knew it.

    Well, we're a season past Yzerman's retirement

I laughed. Yzerman and Shanny leaving allowed the young players to(finally) take things into their own hands. Hasek, while an upgrade over Legace, had little to do with the more determined play we saw from the team in the playoffs this year.

'C' & 'A' to move to right side of Wings sweater

I don't really care what side of the Jersey the "C" and "A" is on, as long as by June there is a SCF patch on the opposite side

    Devils sign Arron Asham

The arguments for signing Asham in this thread are so persuasive that I, along with all other Red Wings fans, am now completley convinced that the general managment team of Holland, Devellano, Nill, Yzerman, and Bowman needs to be replaced immediately with posters on these boards. Immediately.

Bowman may take job with Leafs

Crap... I'm thinking he's going to take this. After the last offer he said he had almost accepted except for the fact that he wouldn't have been given full administrative power over the team... This seems to solve that issue. Bowman is a huge asset to our team, losing him would hurt us more than I think is possible for us to see at this point.

Etc.? Since you've gone and listed species from two different animal classes, I guess you're implying that all animals are the same across the spectrum? A flea has the same level of sentience therefore as does a wolf? Really, at what point did humans become "superior" in the way that most people today imagine our species? At what point in history did humans ascend to this untouchable peak that is beyond the realm of mere "animals?" If you were to travel back in time and examine each individual on the path of human evolution from the time of our divergence from our common ancestor with chimps, which individual would you point to and say "There, he is an animal and thus not worthy of my rights", and which individual would you point to and say "There, he is human and thus worthy of my rights" ? This distinction between "person" and "animal" is only able to survive because we are not directly faced with such questions. That is, the millions of "intermediary" individuals between our ancestor 7 million years ago( and really looking at it like this is even flawed, because this ancestor too had ancestors and so on and so forth) are now all dead. That doesn't mean the principle of humans as somehow greater than animals is any less flawed.

Oh god... We could take this thread hundreds of pages determining what "natural predilection" is and how it applies specifically to human beings.(IE: What crimes that humans commit are in humans "natural predilection"?) True morality comes from empathy for the unnecessary suffering of other sentient beings. That's why it's a big deal; unlike something that happens in the wild that is generally beyond human control( and besides the point, necessary in most cases for the maintaining of the food chain), this suffering was completely uneccecessary. What's your favorite Red Wings memory?

Igor Larionovs triple overtime goal against the 'Canes in game 3 of the 2002 Stanley Cup finals. I'm pretty sure I woke the neighbors when that goal was scored. Turned out to be the turning point in the series, too.

Holland: Free Agent Shopping is Probably Done

Yep that's right. The 07/08 season is over. The WIngs have missed the playoffs. C'mon. Let them play, and at the end of the season if the Wings have done god awful then we can start pointing fingers at Holland. As it stands, his past performance more than justifies current actions.

Holland: Free Agent Shopping is Probably Done

Seriously? 1M more is unreasonable? Especially with the amount of spending money we have?

    Wing's worst offseason in years

Worst off season in years? Nah. I'd consider it a worse off season if we had overpaid for players like some teams have(Bertuzzi 4m, Guerin 4.5, Lang 4m). Look, we didn't come away with the forwards we wanted. Unfortunately the market this year was such that we would of had to overpay for players. With Zetterberg set to become a free agent in 2 years, it's imperative that we keep money to be able to sign him. The term "youth movement" has been thrown around by commentators regarding the Wings for years now. We all knew eventually that some of the younger guys would have to step up. We began to see that last season, and I don't really see why it won't continue this season. The questionable parts of this team have now been cut out(Lang, Williams, Bertuzzi, Calder). Our defense is solid. Our offense seems a bit weak( SEEMS a bit weak, we haven't really seen what guys like Filp and Hudler will be able to do with more ice time), and if it turns out to be too weak, we have plenty of salary to make trades at the deadline. I applaud Holland for not making a knee jerk "SIGN HIM" reaction that could have cost the organization in much bigger ways than some disappointed fans.
