    SCF Game 5 (6/6): Anaheim 6, Senators 2

Yeah, Pronger has never tried to hit anyone from behind He also never cheated on his wife Or screwed Edmonton over Or complained about his suspension because he "is so tall he can't help it"

the wings should not go after smyth

You probably could have added this one sentence post to any of the 100000000 threads out there regarding Smyth/Free agents.

    SCF Game 5 (6/6): Anaheim 6, Senators 2

I'm torn. On the one hand, the thought of Pronger lifting the cup makes me gag. Seriously, there aren't words to describe how wrong it is. I hope he drops the thing and becomes the laughing stock of the NHL for the rest of his life( He's pretty close to it already!). Selanne winning it is good, though. And next year, Lidstrom still has the chance to make history by becoming the first European to win the cup, which would be awesome as he's already the first European to win the Norris and Conn Symthe trophies.

Draper is angry..and angry is good!

Hey Draper, maybe not kill penalties so well and be such a defensive asset/face off expert and we could have been eliminated in round 1 again. By the way, Drapes generally does not play the power play.

Samsonov should be a Red Wing

Oh god no. The Habs have kept the guy off the ice even though he's making 3M. We can do better for 3M.

Ottawa winning the Cup? A disgrace?

I don't like Ottawa because they're named after the Roman senators and the Roman senators were pretty weak and ended up giving up all their power. Plus, Barbarians > Romans did I do it right

    Holland making Schneider a priority

This kind of makes me think that Holland is planning on going after some UFA's hard this off season. Someone said it earlier, but with the cap going up, the Wings could sign both Schneider and Markov and give them pay raises to boot(assuming Bertuzzi takes a pay cut- as is expected). This is exactly why I would not want to be a GM. This is a very tough choice to make in my opinion. Markov brought a physical element to the team that we had been lacking the past couple of years. Plus, I don't think I've seen a better defensive partner for Lidstrom since Murphy was here. Guess we just have to wait and see..

Anybody catch Kyle Quincey on OTR?

Hahaha... "What does Steve Yzerman like in his coffee?" "... I have no idea.." The correct answer is tears. Steve Yzerman flavors his coffee with the tears of all the teams he has defeated.

    Kozzie returning to the Wings?

People are writing Kozlov off way too quickly here. The guy had an 80 point season, and one of the things the Wings need more of is scoring power. He can provide that. He only made 2.012 million last year, and he has said in the past that he would like to return to Detroit.

    Kozzie returning to the Wings?

Kozzie was my favorite player on the wings during the '90s. That being said, he wouldn't exactly give us the physical presence we seem to be looking for. Still , he can put up good numbers so if the price is right I don't see why not...

    An Enforcer

I'd rather go after a physical scorer than go after someone who we bring in just to fight. Hartnell looks good but he takes way too many penalties at the moment. He was second only to Tootoo on Nashville this year.
  13. Past- Yzerman. I grew up watching him. I wanted so desperately for him to win a cup and then it finally happened in '97. And then again in '98, and '02. He is the embodiment of everything good in sports. He's the polar opposite of the Mike Vick's of the sporting world. So much has been said that i'm not really sure there's anything more I can add Present- Lidstrom. The thought of our team after he retires makes me feel ill In a close second is Hasek, I've always liked the guy but this year, at least in my opinion there has been a lot more of those awesome yet terrifying "HOLY CRAP WHAT ARE YOU DOING HASEK OH GOD" ,moments . Usually things end up ok and I can retrieve my thrown remote and sit down with a grin on my face. "That's Dominik Hasek, the craziest(and funniest) goal tender ever"

Is the jury still out on Babcock?

I'm seeing a lot of these kind of comments. How was this season "Horribly disappointing"? We had a great regular season, and we went deep in the playoffs. That's more than the majority of teams can say this summer. Regarding Babcock... I mean sheesh, they guys been here two years. Year 1: Great regular season, bad off season. Year 2: Great regular season, good off season. This guy is a very good coach, and I just don't understand people who want to throw him away after 2 seasons. "Omg guyz Bab's had two years to win us a cup and he didn't! Fire him!!!"

Free Agent Names to Look At

Off season speculation is fun Just messing around here.... So the cap for 07-08 is supposed to be around $48 million.. maybe this kind of scenario could work out? Datsyuk $6.7 Zetterberg $2.7 Draper $2.12 Holmstrom $2.25 Maltby $1.5(I'm not sure on this, anyone have the actual number??) Samuelsson $1.2 Bertuzzi $2.5(resign for 2.7 less) Franzen $0.9 Filppula $.85 Cleary $.675 Hudler $.7(hes an RFA this season, not sure what will happen here) Kopecky $.5 (actual number TBA, guessing) Lidstrom $7.6 Schneider $3.3(resign) Markov $3.0(resign for 500,000 more) Chelios $.85(resign) Lilja $1.0 Kronwall $1.5 Lebda $.55 Hasek $2.0(Resign for 1.3 more) Osgood $.8 (Lang/Calder dropped) Grand total: $43.195 Of course, I'm assuming that A) Hasek will resign and ask for more(gave him a generous amount) B) That Schneider will resign for his same salary as last year(this is a big guess) C) That Bertuzzi will stay for less than half his current salary But assuming all these things, it still leaves us with about 3-4 million in spending money to acquire another forward (hopefully a RW) Two options that might fit in nicely: Scott Hartnell: RW 6'2'' , 210 lbs, age: 24. Made $1.75 this year. We'll have to give him quite a bit more than that to take him from Nashville, i'm guessing. in '06-'07 he had 22 goals and 17 assists. Dainus Zubrus: RW 6'4'' 224 lbs, age:28. Made $1.85 this year. With the cap problems Buffalo is going to have they may not be able to resign him. in '06-'07 he had 24 Goals and 36 assists. You might be able to do something like... Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Bertuzzi-Filppula-Zubrus/Hartnell Cleary-Draper-Maltby Kopekcy/Hudler-Franzen-Samuelsson ...Well, I kinda suck at putting lines toghether but i'm sure you could make some good combos with those players. Of course, dropping Schnieder and using Lilja/Quincey to fill the void would give you an extra $3.3 to go after the "big name" players like Smyth and Gomez. You could also drop Bertuzzi and gain some spending power. Personally, I hope the wings can keep Schnieder, especially since our PP was a bit weak this year. With all of that said I think our core of players (minus Lang and *maybe* Calder) is strong enough to put up good numbers this season. Filppula is more than ready to center the second line, or play wing. Still, some more offensive presence would make this team scary.

    The Predators have been sold.

http://www.newschannel5.com/Global/story.asp?S=6560713 Nashville moving could do all sorts of wacky things to the conferences/divisions

I wouldn't mind Zubrus... He plays RW, has size and put up decent numbers this year( his +/- was a bit low because he was playing on Washington for some time). I'm not sure Buffalo is going to be able to resign him with the cap issues they are going to have trying to sign Drury and Briere.. Zubrus made $1.85 million this year and will likely ask for more next year.

    Chelios not shaking hands . . .

Eh, maybe it is being blown out of proportion but I am personally disappointed. As wings fans we often talk about how classy our team is while ripping into other teams players. What Chelios did is a very poor representation of a team that had gained some respect from the hockey world in these playoffs. Honestly, for the oldest player in the NHL, what he did made him seem like he had the mentality of a 5 year old. Chelly is on wdfn every Thursday at 5pm. We'll see what he has to say then.

WCF Game 5 (5/20): Ducks @ Red Wings, 3pm ET

I'm getting sick just thinking that a morale crushing goal by the Ducks could happen here.. Wings carry the play two games in a row and lose both. god i hate this s***

I have never been a Hasek fan

Thanks for posting that picture. I don't often see shots of Dom during the anthems. What he is doing there is ALOT more respectful than what the majority of goalies are doing during the anthems.

I have never been a Hasek fan

Holy s***... You seriously haven't figured out why this is? I mean you really can't deduce why he only has one stanley cup? Remember that stuff about him playing on awful teams and yet still carrying them on his back until he came to Detroit? Maybe? Yeah. That might have something to do with it, eh? Uhh, no. No one is going to "give you a break" when you start a thread bashing Hasek. You want a break? Don't post these pointless threads. Which is why his GAA even after 5 goals being scored on him in one game is currently 1.67? Yeah. 1.67 goals a game sucks guys!!!

I have never been a Hasek fan

What a load of absolute s***. Seriously, the game is barely over(NOTE THE SERIES IS NOT OVER), Hasek has one bad game when he has played spectacularly throughout the entire season and playoffs and you come on this forums going "LOL GUYS LETS START OSGOOD CAUSE HASEK CLEARLY SUCKS LOLZ" Wait until the damn series is over to talk about Hasek. But no, waiting isn't an option is it? Which is why 10 minutes into game 2 of the second round we had another dazzling post from you about how "its a long time till October". Remember what happened in that game? That series? Maybe we'll lose to the Ducks, but if we do I can almost garuntee you that it won't be because of Hasek.
