I don't have an answer as to how to clean up these calls, but I'm not sure where you're going with this, since the only alternative you suggest also involves guessing at the intent. But you also state that going with the extent of the injury is also wrong. So, what would be your suggestion for fixing it? But I do agree that the offender's history most definitely should be taken into account. Meanwhile, from the quote SkyPhoenix put in here, it's a good thing for Laraque that once he saw the tape he knew it was a suspendable action. Now I really don't have to hire a death squad. But I too would like him to be out (OR play?!) for as long as Kronwall is out, over-reacting or not.

THANKS for this, pokemon! I didn't get to see any of it, but I think Mac looks great here and he did what he had to do under the conditions of the show. He has so much time to say what he wants to say, and of course it's gonna be at least partly scripted because he has to say what he wants to within very defined time limits. And it also cuts down on nerves to be even partly scripted. You gotta know the floor director was out there giving hand signals and that can be distracting too if you're not used to it. He was very much himself when responding to Drapes, and everybody had to love that. And it also showed the real Mac right there. He did fine and I hope he gets more gigs like it.

I've also noticed that nobody seems to want to pass to Bertuzzi unless they absolutely have to. Maybe it's my imagination but if it's true that can totally screw up rhythm and trying to set something up.

And the Wings are not a dirty team. That is a fact. So that also means my idea of Stuart and Ericsson sandwiching Laraque, and Bertuzzi beating the crap out of him is also not a good idea. Not only is it inconsistent with the way they play (thank god), I don't want 'em to mess up their hands. OK, so it wouldn't matter with Bert but it might with the other two.

I just backed off watching this game after the first period and just finished watching the first half of the Longhorn's game to calm down. But I still think it wouldn't matter if May or Whoever had been out there. In movies, like Westerns - it usually happens that there's somebody who shows up to take out the bad guy. I know this has been brought up ad nauseum on this board, but how many times has that really happened during hockey games? In real time? I mean, where somebody who was hurt was really avenged during the 60 minutes of the game? Not nearly enough, I'm thinking. I wish to god it did, but it doesn't. And if Cherry was surprised that Larague did what he did - and other posters here have said the same thing - maybe he didn't do it even partly because he knew there would not be retaliation. Maybe it was just a really dumbass move on his part. Our TV guys said he had just come back from rehab (?), was in a fight last night and did not do well. Maybe that was why he went crazy.
