That is playing the game. Chelios's head was about to be removed. And the ref was standing there watching it all, bemused. And your alternate suggestion is...? ACTION. Not words. Especially stupid, off-target words. OF COURSE they ride each other verbally. Who gives a crap? Certainly not me. Maybe I'm not making my point right. "Asking how an opposing player's wife is doing" (yeeeeahh...) comment/question only makes the attacker look cheapshotty and desperate and drags in people who have nothing at all to do with what's going on on the ice. Yo, Esteef: I'm really enjoying and appreciating the photoshop stuff you're putting on that Wings' thread. As for Vladdy and Stevie - although I'd like to see evidence that they put down other players' wives/families - it's possible it could have happened. In the heat of battle anything's possible. But personally, I still consider it a last-resort type choice and behavior that's inappropriate and out-of-control. And pretty much shows that the attacker is losing it at the moment. My favorite players are Lidstrom, Yzerman, Konstantinov, plus the Russian Five. I cannot imagine one of them resorting to this kind of attack because they never had to. They just played their game to the best of their ability. And if they ever did/do it, I would guess they felt like crap afterwards. They are/were sheer class on every level. They just played their damn game. I know it goes on all the time. That means absolutely nada to me because again, on so many levels it's still ugly and wrong. I still say that once a player resorts to an attack like that he's already lost the argument. It's like finally saying to an opponent, "Yeah, well so's your mother". I still say that mostly, it shows the attacker's insecurities and fears. Why else resort to it? Why else even go there? And yeah, I also love(d) watching Mac and Chelios play. But ultimately Mac proved his prowess on the ice and I believe, was a major part of the shift in '97. And I still remember a moment between Chelios and Forsberg. Can't remember whether it was during a playoff game or not. But it happened to the (stage) right side of somebody's net. There was Forsberg trying to take Cheli's head off. And there was Cheli with his stick up between Forsberg's legs, almost lifting him off the ice. Not one word was spoken. They were just doing it the right way. Now this is a piece of absolute, mature brilliance. Know what I mean? Know what I mean? ...jeezuss, I do believe some of you are still in the pubescent stage of life. Even if you're 30 years old. I love pro hockey. And I know I have no control over what happens on the ice. But I say that any player who is so desperate as to attack wives and/or families is mostly showing his own insecurities about his play and whether he can cut it on the ice. Otherwise, why bother? Why not just get the hell out there (like the Detroit Red Wings) and play your damn game? Show them up the way you're supposed to, like you've been trained to do most of your whole life? I don't care if it happens 40 out of 60 minutes of ice time and that it starts in high school and is ingrained.. It's stupid. It's a kind of insecure cheapshotting. It's ugly in too many ways to count.

I totally agree with you about Mother Earth and what we're doing to her. That's one of the main reasons I voted for Obama. As for the ants thing, sorry that didn't go over so well. I was kidding. But obviously my timing was bad. Not the first time, nor will it probably be the last.

I will admit that I'm nervous about the Wings relaxing at all in the 4th game. That would indeed be an insult to how they've played so far.

Given ones' basic druthers, I'd say I'd much rather see the Wings play the Ducks. Have never played hockey but Luongo looks like a frickin' moving wall out there.

Good. This is what I thought... If and when we finish and win with Columbus, I'm not as worried as I was about playing Anaheim. So far, the Sharks have not come close to finishing on power plays. So I'm hoping if it comes down to it, the Wings can figure out Hiller just like they seem to have done with Mason. Yeah, I know that Columbus itself is responsible for some of our goals, but still... I have a question about the Ducks. How many good lines do they have? I can't believe they have the depth the Wings do.
