2010 Winter Olympics - Canada vs United States (Group A)
Vladifan replied to redwings8831's topic in General
Since I've been guilty of doing this stuff myself - adding commentary that only foments and sidetracks thread topics, I feel I have the right to comment. The "health insurance" response WAS very funny and should have been able to stand on its own merits without diluting it. Any intellectual/political responses should have gone to that most weird and wondrous thread in the water cooler section, maybe by directing further conversation there? And since I sense this may not be over, as a favor to me and probably others, could you take any further discussion on this topic to that location? Thankyouverymuch. -
...jeeeeeeeeeeeeezusss.. OK, I was watching women's figure skating and NBC absolutely and with malice aforethought went off the air. It's gone. Been gone here for about 20. Anybody else??
-
Thank god you haven't lost your touch and your way with words. Please don't change.

I went online to the Vancouver Olympics website and FB has a stream of posters saying how wonderful the skating went. Methinks it's our local station. The hamster wheels must have fallen apart. Or maybe the string broke between the tin cans? Or the lens cracked on their frickin' Brownie Reflex? WHO THE HELL KNOWS?! Thing is, we had about two inches of snow and you would think the frickin' sky fell in. Probably didn't sweep out their big satellite dishes. I repeat. ...jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzussssssssssssss..... But, thanks. :nonono:

I know what I think you mean by this. And that is that Canada will flip, flop and dive when they think they can get away with it. As for Crosby and Malkin, could we have another Mo, Shep and Curly thing and throw Pronger in too? I can see them all now, slapping each other upside their helmets and barking and shrieking at each other.

I'm afraid the Canadians may be getting their s*** together and that is very bothersome, but I'm still rooting for Russia. Canada will come out physical and they won't let up and those "soft Euros" have GOT to be ready for that and take 'em on especially defensively. I'm also worried about the officiating because I saw too much stuff not called tonight on Canada. Obviously it didn't matter because of the score but it could tomorrow. I still think Russia can beat them, and I hope they win even if it means we have to play them. That was a great article by the way quoting two of my favorite Russki Five, so THANKS for that, Marty.

Perry gets away with a high stick and then gets whiplash getting a call. 3-0. I think it's gonna be easier watching Illinois beat the crap outta Michigan. Have a nice evening if you can, everybody.

After watching the first period, can't help but think if Germany had any kind of offense, this might have been an interesting game. Yezz, well....

Thanks! Can you tell I'm not exactly a "numbers" person?

2010 Winter Olympics - Canada vs United States (Group A)

I know you're upset but these are ridiculous statements. SO you come to this thread and see more photoshopped pics. What you're REALLY asking here is that ALL of us who have contributed to this thread - no matter how extreme or how mildly - should conform to your wishes and let up/calm down/act reasonably. This.is.just.not.possible. It ain't gonna happen. You will continue to see all kinds of viewpoints on this thread from the reasonable to the comic to the most insecure fans who insist upon pushing their fandom to the limit. It's obviously upsetting you to the point of multi-responses so I suggest you either stay away for now or get used to it. And to "warn" us (?!) that if the two teams meet again it will be worse for us Americans because of those who gloated? So now you're trying to control the responses of Canadians in that scenario? You have got to be beyond thinking rationally to make that kind of statement. -

I noticed when the Canadian women's hockey team was playing Finland yesterday Canadian fans were harrassing the hell out of any Finn player in the sin bin. Literally yelling, waving, pounding, etc. Go frickin' figure. Not a pretty sight to behold. -
Thanks for putting this on here, even if it is Wiki. I have a question about the time frame for this current contract. When they say 2010-11, does that refer to this season we're in, or next season? I can never figure that crap out. Thanks to whoever. If it's this season, does anyone know if ANYthing is in the works with ANYone else? Animal Planet? Nickolodeon?

NBC totally blew it with their stoopidity and arrogance by ONLY showing that game on their one network that doesn't have HD. (And on Directv - don't know about other cable/satellite companies - they have at least two other purely HD channels they could have shown it on.) And at the same time, on CNBC, they had curling. Yeah, you read that right. Like anyone has to watch that slower-than-dog-turds-drying-in-the-sun-sport in HD. And then they have the gall to tout how many viewers watched that game...when the viewers' interests were obviously never even taken into consideration. Meanwhile, I'd like to think that's true about espn, but I'm pretty sure it isn't. From what I've read, espn did not want hockey back. Just like we don't want Buttman back.

Thanks for saving me the time to type something very much like this myself.

Maybe we should start a thread for the weirdest and most unrelated posts from other threads?

This was great stuff - when it happened and hearing it again, thanks to you. And you're from Chicago? You certainly got my vote on two counts. THANKS!

Ron Wilson's biggest challenge is to get the USA ready for the next game, whoever it is. If he's smart, and I'm pretty sure he's already proven that, he'll use some of Brooks's tactics from the 80's Olympics. I must confess I did not have enough faith in the USA to pull off a victory against Canada. So on the one hand, mea culpa personified; on the other, I AM SO DAMN PROUD OF THEM for accomplishing what they did.

Although I must admit I've wanted to blame him on more than one occasion, I agree with all of this. But to blame Babcock just ain't that simple. The suggestions that he should have taken a time out toward the end; that he should have pulled Brodeur are not where the main problems are. When most of the world says Canada WILL/MUST win the gold, I'm thinkin' that put juuust a little pressure on these guys who are way too used to being the stars/hotshots of their teams. So far, probably each of them figures it's on HIS shoulders to win. Therefore, no chemistry, no meshing.

I'm thinking he won't be in net for their next game. And if Luongo had been there instead, I'm not at all sure we would have done as well. In a weird, VERY reaching way, it's a little like the '80's game between the USA and Russia. Their coach pulled the best goalie in the world (Tretiak?...whatever!) because he was pissed, mostly. I'm not sure if the USA would have won that one either with their good guy in. Then again, I've always been good at postulating real good what-ifs. -

I also heard that Pronger's been working on a sandwich hit. All by himself. If anyone can do it, he can. -

You're kidding. Right? He did have one good play I saw where he passed it to one of his own players in front of the net. That is all. -

I can honestly understand how you're feeling right now. It has to hurt a lot because Canada really is very very good at this game. I've been there in the past with teams I've loved, and I feel very bad for you. But maybe later you can understand that 95% of us Amuricans LOVE Canada. It's a beautiful, BEEEAUTIFUL country and you really do have the best national anthem. But speaking for myself, there are about six individual hockey players I cannot stand for pretty good reasons. And at least four of them are playing on Canada's Olympic team. That's my take. And even as far as Crosby goes, it's mostly the media and Bettman and his marketing friends who've hyped him to absolutely intolerable levels. -

We don't need no stinkin' hockey god. We have one and his name is Rafalski. Is that a hat trick or was it deflected? I AM FRICKKIN' LOVIN' THIS GAME!!! -

I have no idea what your point is here, but it does not belong in this thread.
