How do we know we are doing a better job if there aren't any simulations?... I guess I'll try my hand at Minnesota GM. Don't think anyone has claimed them yet. I'm confused about agents... you said there willl be no fantasy draft. I assume this means all teams will start with their current rosters. Why would anyone pick players that aren't FAs this summer? (Or players that will likely get cut, assuming we can do that) Or are we just putting all players into a FA pool and everyone is open game?

After the 1st period last night, I definitely agreed with you. We utterly DOMINATED. But then after the game... the fact that they were able to come back, and were so close to sending the game to OT and possibly coming out with a win, I was kind of disheartened to the idea of an "easy" series. I hope you are correct, but I expect the Avalanche to make this a series, especially when we head to Denver.

Well I won't argue with that... I thought that trade was one of the many bonehead moves Burke pulled this season. The Top 3: - Signing Bert for $4M/yr - Trading Andy McDonald for Doug Weight - WAIVING Ilja Bryzgalov (get SOMETHING for this guy! he went on to save a franchise!) The latter 2 can be blamed on the first + Neidermayer taking so long to decide on a comeback. He had no choice at that point, but really shouldn't have been in the situation to begin with.

Wasn't Weight brought in for cap RELIEF? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Burke traded McDonald (maybe others?) for Weight so he'd have enough cap room for Selanne and Neidermayer to return.

Very nice. The Total Combined salary says it all. I'll admit I was upset when Holland chose to let him walk, but not when I heard he signed for $4M. Nice work Kenny. You have never/will never hear any bashing from me.

He also played generally very well the whole game. Generated multiple scoring chances and played well defensively, as usual. Great game by Flip! Easily his best game of the post-season, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

Here's the way I look at it. We won 2 games while you had the beard, and now we've lost those 2 games back since you've been without it. We should be good for tonight!

How is Holland supposed to predict this? Every single one of these guys on our roster showed this grit you speak of last playoff season. By your own admission they all showed it against Calgary by stepping up BIG time. Even Flip and Hudler showed it. Those who didn't (Bertuzzi, Calder, to some extent Lang(although he still got goals) ) weren't re-signed. He brought in guys like Drake, McCarty and Downey: guys who he and everyone expected would bring the playoff intangibles you have mentioned (digging in corners, not being intimidated, etc.) By your own definition, it seems he did a fairly adequate job in the off-season. Yet you are calling for him to get canned? Granted the players aren't playing as 'gritty' as they did last year now, but how much of that can be pinned on Holland? Hindsight is 20/20.

This is the biggest thing, and our main problem (if we even have a problem, that has yet to be seen... the series is tied). I don't know how much of this you can pin on Ken Holland.

I have honestly not been as impressed with Dan Ellis as most people, especially the media have been. He's been good, but I thought Osgood outplayed him tonight, and Hasek outplayed him by FAR in the first 8 periods of this series. I also thought Roloson wasn't 'hot' in '06. I definitely think the Wings poor play made him look a lot better than he was playing. A majority of their shots were from terrible angles. The Oilers did a great job of keeping our forwards outside, so we were just settling for shots from out there. Most people in the media were pointing to the number of shots he saved and saying he was stealing the series, but honestly... in terms of stopping a lot of actual SCORING CHANCES he wasn't "amazing" by any means. HOT goalies would be: Giguere who DOMINATED us in '03 and Kiprusoff who stole the series (shutouts in Game 5&6) in '04. Ellis and Roloson do not compare to those guys AT ALL. So to answer your question (sort of) the Wings made Roloson look hot, and I think the media is making Ellis look hot.
