  1. I don't mean for this to sound like some elitest comment but when the wings are favored to win the cup 17 of the past 20 years, I would think it's a special thing to knock them out of the playoffs.

So being favored to win the cup 17 of the last 20 years and failing to win them all huh? So who are the real chokers??

It's one game and based on that, you're writing them off in five? Wow.

  2. call the goaltender interference on the Gooch and you don't get the third goal. or did you miss that one? Bottom line bud, game 1 OT, lucky bounce, Wings could've won it, game two I will give you, even though Wings played better, game three hmmmmm, lucky bounce in OT (again) Wings could've won it, game 4,5,6 your team couldn't handle a full 60 mins, game 7 goaltender interference not even bringing up the fact that the Wings were without Franzen, then lost Bertuzzi AND Cleary without the ability to replace them! So your team squeaked out a game 7 win with us only having 10 forwards. You see, you claim that without Heatly or Marleau you guys would still beat us, but fact is, even with those two, YOU BARELY BEAT US. No lucky bounces in OT, Wings could've won 4 games to 1. Be glad you got the lucky bounces, it's part of hockey, but they won't always come. Be man enough to admit, that you were inches, fractions of inches to NOT winning this series. Congrats that they did, but it's not like you rolled over the Wings. Simmer Down...

I have not stated that SJ rolled over your Wings. You are absolutely correct that either team was inches, fractions of inches, away from defeat in multiple games. It was a hell of a series.

It's ok to Clowe bash but when Bertuzzi goes head-hunting, it's not?

It's ok to call the Sharks divers, when your last night Howard drops like a powder-puff?

It's ok to call the Sharks cheaters when Stuart changes his stick in game one after an icing call to delay the faceoff?

The Sharks haven proven to be the better team over the past two years. I give credit to SJ adapting to Detroit's style of play.

Again, the statement I'll remember most is Lidstrom's pre-game #7 statement that he has never played in a series where the two teams are so even. Cryin' about the diving, refs, crappy ice in SJ, overpaid top non-producers, etc. is not going to level this series.

  3. I didn't think the sharks would get rolled by Chicago last year and look what happened. I would never say they are going to get rolled by Vancouver, but I don't think it will go 7 games either. Point is this, until your team can make it to the SCF, I really think you should step back and re-evaluate. The Sharks have a history of dying in the post season. I certainly hope they can get over the hump soon, because time is running out on your core of players.

This Sharks/Wings series was epic, even from a fan on the losing side. This is why I love the playoffs, even after my team gets beat, I gotta keep watching. Sharks deserve all the credit for winning this series. I will be very interested to see if the Sharks can get the monkey off their back and make it to the finals. Time is not on their side if they don't make it.

This next round is all about being fresh (physically/mentally). There are a few players on SJ that have won a cup.

If the same Vancouver team that beat Nashville shows, I think this series leans to SJ. If our core players turtle-up, it could be a quick VAN series.

I loved Lidstrom's comment prior to game #7 where he stated that he has never been involved in a series where the two teams are so evenly matched.

    Total respect for the Wings.

  4. I see the exact same things going on when I read ANY FAN BOARD of any NHL team. Even here, you have fans who were saying they will boycott the NHL if the Wings didn't win this series. Some fans just like to blow steam off. Others could be realistic. If there is anything I have learned though, is that fans on forums will typically be downers about their team but come back around. Point is that Sharks fans may be over the top and not have a great display of sportsmanship, but the Wings fans are no better as a whole. Thats something I wanted to see changed, but I have learned my lesson.

I honestly came to this site to express my appreciation for the Wings last night. It was a series where you hated to see a team lose.

But, then everything on this thread was "f*** San Jose," and "f*** the Sharks." And now it's about the Sharks top three being overpaid and people are expressing how the Sharks are going to get steamrolled.

    WTF?

  5. Zetterberg, Cleary, Lidstrom, Kronwall, Filppula, and Helm. Ya know, just the same guys we had most of the season and held that 2nd spot for the majority of the year which we, ironic enough we lost to your team and wound up being the dagger for the series. Regardless, saying all we have is Datsyuk is fairly silly and very Sharks fan like of you ;)

I will give credit where it's due to Couture, Setoguchi (for once) and Pavelski. I'd take Clowe all day on our team if I could even if he acts like a douchenozzle when Kronwall throws a bomb check on him. Those guys were basically what won this series for your team. And Niemi also had a great couple of games and still almost lost while we had 10 forwards. Might be sour grapes and just grasping to some, but facts are facts, slick.

It's Slick Rick to you Hanka.

Your team has more than Datsyuk. I am stating that if you take him out, your Wings never make this a series. Ever! That's a compliment Hanka!

Bertuzzi got away from his game and paid the price. (night-night!)

Guys like Seto, Couture, Clowe, Pavelski, Mitchell are all playing very well right now. I'd even state that our defense is playing better than advertised. Heck, even Wallin is playing well!

And to all you haters who say Vancouver is going to roll the Sharks...I say, go back to the store and get some fresh grapes!

throw your book in trash can.

O.K. but as long as you throw your sour grapes in that same can too!

  6. I never said the better team didn't win.

"Cute stats?" Scoring points isn't contributing?

So a slam dunk goal and a few good defensive plays late in game 7 is worth $6.9 mill?

And I see you're starting the revisionist history about Thornton already. He got better as the series went along. Either way when you're the star player and make $7.2 million, contributing usually also involves putting up points. And you have awfully low expectations for Heatley too. There are a lot of guys who are responsible with the puck in their end and can help contain the neutral zone, and they sure don't get paid $7.5 million.

I never said the Sharks as a team were bad. It's just that they have guys like Couture, Setoguchi, Clowe and Boyle to thank for winning that series. Because their three star players were busy contributing with "intangibles" instead of on the scoresheet, which last time I checked is how you win games.

I agree that our big three are all overpaid.

But, to call out Jumbo Joe in this series? C'mon! Go back and watch the OT game 3 winner. Who made that play? Jumbo. Go back and watch his steals in each game from his back-checking. Take a look at the number of turnovers (hardly any) all series.

Easy to call out our big three but it's sour grapes.

Take Datsyuk off the Wings. What do you have?

Take Heatley or Marleau off or team and we'll still beat you.

  7. I used to be a fan, but I'm so over Joe Thornton. Especially after hearing the post game interviews of him. Hearing him say how they don't care what people are saying, they knew they could do it. blah blah blah.

Thornton, Heatley, and Marleau account for almost $22 million of cap space.

Marleau had one point. (Who cares if it's the series winner. Had he showed up earlier there wouldn't have been a game 7)

Heatley had a goal and three assists.

Thornton had zero goals and 6 assists. 4 of which came on the power play.

Those guys were carried by players like Couture, Setoguchi and Clowe. (Guys who really stepped up their game in the postseason (If you're keeping score those guys together eat up less than $7 mill cap space). So it was a little hilarious to here Joe going on about how he believed. I guess the part he wasn't saying was he believed "that my teammates would save my ass."

How about throwing some more love to the guys who carried you Joe?

Joe Thornton played his ass off this entire series. Just ask the RW players and coaching staff.

It's not all about the cute stats you looked-up. It's about contributing.

Heatley played a great series in my book. He played responsible with the puck in his end and did a great job containing the neutral zone.

Marleau stepped-up large last night. Not only with his BAM...game winner, but with a great defensive play way late in the game.

    Better team won last night.

  8. Not a day ago did I read numerous threads of "OH MY GOD IF WE LOSE GAME 7 I SWEAR TO GOD, NEVER WATCHING HOCKEY AGAIN OMGOMGOMOMGOMG?!" all across the shark boards. I have absolutely nothing and I mean nothing against opponent fans on the normal basis of them coming here and having an actual chat but to come here and start screaming we're bitching all of a sudden because what you actually made it to the western conference finals? Good, I hope you guys can actually make it past that just for the sake of Todd McLellan. I think most fan's are ashamed of your piss poor team and their display of sportsmanship when it comes to the sport of hockey if anything.

It was a heck of a series. Stinks one team had to lose. 6 of the 7 games were one goal games. Red Wing fans love this diving thing. Get over it. Your Wings scored an offside goal and a goal with too many men on the ice this series. Setoguchi gets dropped by Bertuzzi in OT and gets called.

Just find this "f*** the Sharks" attitude a bit over the top.

  9. Very proud of the team for the valiant effort. Unfortunately, the puck didn't bounce our way tonight. I honestly think this is the year for the Sharks as well. This was the real WCF.

Totally sucks for a team to lose this series. All I can say is WOW how spoiled you Wings fans are to watch such talent on a nightly basis! Datsyuk is the best player I have ever seen.

  10. The Kronwall hit was a GREAT hockey play.

This is not enough to keep Clowe off the ice. He logged a ton of minutes after that hit.

Take nothing away from him getting destroyed, it's not enough. Something like the flu makes complete sense. Clowe is the toughest dude on the Sharks. I gotta believe if we were facing elimination tonight that he'd be in there. It's a luxury to keep him out because tonight, we can only WIN the series folks!

They updated the blog a few minutes ago (SJ Mercury, David Pollack)

UPDATE: Still nothing from the team, but word being spread is “flu-like symptoms” kept Ryane Clowe off the plane — leaving open the possibility, I suppose, of a private jet whisking him here today if he woke up feeling better.

    More shortly.

    Seems pretty obvious he's out.

  11. I disagree. Marleau, Heatley and Thornton disappeared as usual, Setoguchi disappeared until last night. The only individual player giving the Wings nightmares is Pavelski, as usual. I would say their second-tier guys are outplaying our second-tier guys.

Wow! What series are you watching?

    Heatley's assist on White's game #2 goal.

    Marleau's back-checking and pk play.

Thornton has been a beast this series and last. He's playing with more confidence than ever. He's all over the ice...transition, forechecking, backchecking, attacking the net and making some killer assists.

If all you look at is the scoring stats, your argument stands.

  12. The Wings are down 0-2 because the Sharks are playing better.

    /thread

Seriously though, look at the stats. People like blaming the reffing and diving by San Jose, but the stats don't lie. The puck possession, shots, scoring chances, and offensive zone possession are all owned by the Sharks. Sure, the Wings get chances, but the Sharks are getting almost double what the Wings are getting. Our "weak link" was always thought to be Howard. Well, Howard has turned in 2 spectacular efforts to keep us in the games and the team in front of him really has not been able to outplay the Sharks team.

Some people will say the Wings are not playing with enough heart. I wouldn't go that far to insult them like that. What I will say is, the Sharks are skating harder and winning the puck battles in the first two games. Can the Wings do that in games 3 and 4? I believe they can. Its quite obvious that the Wings have to play harder because their margin for error is slim.

Beyond the 1st period of Game #1 and the final five minutes of Game #2, I have witnessed a Sharks team playing at their highest level all season! I could argue that Games #1 and #2 were the best two games for the Sharks all season. Why?

The Sharks have elevated their level of: intensity, focus, drive and heart. They are winning all the little battles. They are controlling the neutral zone. They are wearing-down the Wings.

Look at last game and they way the Wings stalled-out the icing calls. Gamesmanship? Sure! But it was also survival.

I take NOTHING away against the Wings. These are two damn good hockey teams and one simply outworked the other in the first two games.

  13. I don't play hacky sack with skinny jeans on, brotha.

Tough for you to be objective also.

    No EXCUSES next round!!

Just had to post it!

Always appreciate a Sharks fan opinion. No, really. Everyone please stop laughing....

So Hank are you still laughing? The excuses are steady, but how about the laughter?

  14. Mike Modano is a Sharks killer.

He has produced big time numbers over the years competing against SJ in the Pacific Division.

At HP Pavilion, Modano has averaged almost a point per game. In 38 career games, Modano has been good for 36 points going into this season.

  15. Truly the most nauseating part of yesterday was the Thornton interview after:

Pang: "What have you changed about your game this postseason, Joe?"

    Joey T: "Nothing, hehe"

    Get the f*** outta here.....

What the hell do you think he's gonna say? "Uhm, good question Mr. Holy Jumpin's! Yeah I changed my mental approach. I used to be afraid of playoff pressure, but not anymore!"

The bottom line. Both games San Jose has outworked the Wings, drawing penalties and lucky bounces. They are doing the little things right. They are forechecking, backchecking, following-up on possible rebounds in the crease. This is a Sharks team that we Sharks fans have been waiting for YEARS to see.

I posted in a different thread that the Kings played the Sharks much more physically. Wore the Sharks down. I don't see a lot of physicality by the Wings yet. They need to be better.

Foot must stay on the pedal for the Sharks to win two more.

  16. In 2007 the Sharks "outmatched" Detroit and Detroit was the team that advanced. Yes, San Jose has been the better team but all it takes is two convincing wins to level the playing field not just on paper, but in the swagger of each respective team.

All I know is Detroit half-assed this game and only lost 2-1. They dominated 40% of Game 1 and lost 2-1 in overtime due to s***ty reffing.

If a half-assed Detroit team is forcing San Jose to eke out wins, no matter how dominant their play, once the Wings find a rhythm San Jose will be the team in trouble.

In 2007, Ron Wilson was the coach. Today, McLellan was hired to beat the Wings. Mission accomplished, yet not convincingly. Here is a quote from Joe Thornton after the game yesterday:

"Out of the seven playoff games we've played against Detroit these last two years," Thornton said, "six have been one-goal games. They could have gone either way."

The Sharks are an entirely different team than vs. the Kings. The physicality that LA brought is not matched by Detroit. Not even close. Goaltending is.

Still a lot more hockey left...

  17. As I stated earlier this week, the keys for the Sharks:

    -D before O

-control (the best you can) the neutral zone

The Kings played SJ much more physical. Bigger bodies than Detroit.

SJ won their three games in LA. They play well on the road.

This series is FAR from over. The Sharks need to continue with D before O, make a presence in the neutral zone and get solid effort from Nemo. We need to steal one in Detroit.
