Did LGW coin the nick name "MULE"?
Wings_Fan_In_Exile replied to sergei_is_still_a_wing's topic in General
And I have to say, Franzenstein is one of my favorite nicknames -
haha, I know, I know. I update my ghetto signature at work though....
-
I gotta tell ya, I am pleasantly surprised with his performance thus far. In fact I hope he dresses the rest of the playoffs, I think he's earned a spot.
-
So... I originally predicted Wings in 6 or even 7... now I'm guessing 5. Oh how I'd love it if I am dead wrong and they do end up with the sweep C'mon Wings, make me eat crow!!!!
-
Doc has such a nasal voice.. sometimes I fear my head will explode. And Penguin games- his Crosby love gets old very quickly. You can get a doctorate for radio/tv.... odd. And for living in Michigan, why isn't he biased toward our Wings??
-
Sounds like Wolski will be back, but gotta love the secrecy that is the NHL Playoffs and injuries. Avs' Wolski hurt in first period Hannan seemed to be skating fine later in the game.. And Forsberg.. who knows with that guy. I bet he plays limited minutes tomorrow and is probably out again by Game 4, haha. *EDIT* just saw this quote from Quenneville-

Sadly, I've probably watched more Avs games than Wings games this year (stupid geography!) and while I am no Avs fan, whatsoever (beyond maybe Sakic), I will be the first to tell you that they are a better team than what showed up last night. Detroit is definitely the better team, but I'd be shocked if this doesn't go to 6 games. Pleasantly surprised though, of course.

WCSF Game 1 GDT: Red Wings 4, Avalanche 3

What's with the Joe?? Sounds like a exibition game out there. Where's the noise?? -
Haha. I'm just surprised it took that many games for him to sit a game injured. Maybe the Kronner highlights have him scurred.
-
I cannot wait to see how we match up with both teams sporting relatively healthy rosters. I still think the Wings have the edge, but I am not as confident as some people on here. 6-7 games, maybe all 7 for us to take it. I am surprised at Panger though.
-
The more I think about this match up, the more I'm thinking this might be a 7 game series. Should be a good match up. Time is moving sooooooooooo slow right now!!
-
I don't really see the Avs as that goonish of a team. I would've been more worried about that in a series with the Flames. Maybe if they dress Parker when he's healthy. Lappy does some borderline stuff, and I will always hate Foote, but I'd say the Wings are even in that dept.

Like I said in a different thread, I'm expecting a chippy series with the Wings in 6. They cannot lose, I'd never hear the end of it out here in CO! But I have the faith!
-
Depth definitely can play a part in the playoffs. For starters it's a war of attrition, people are gonna get injured, and having depth to adequately fill the gaps can make all the difference. Or winning games on the road. One line teams get shut down, having depth can save your ass when your top guys are stuck against their checking line. But don't get me wrong, playoff series are obviously not won and lost on internet message boards. Talking about who looks better on paper is pretty pointless, but to me fun, cuz I love talking hockey. Upsets, or drawn out series happen every year, for a number of reasons. *edit for bad spelling and I probably didn't catch it all haha. Oh and back on topic, I still think the Wings win in 6, and this series will definitely get chippy

Melrose came off in that article as having a serious man-crush on Avery. Strange that he likes fashion that much. Although, doesn't Zetterberg have his own line of clothes too?
-
While I agree that it is more practical to analyze the matchups, breaking it down in categories isn't as foolish as you seem to portray it. Just looking at things a different way. Discussing who has more depth or more talented offense is valid.... to a point.
-
I agree with your breakdown on a chunk of these, BUT Sakic v. Zetterberg- regular season I'm with ya, but so far in the playoffs... Sakic with the 6pts vs Z's 4 gives Sakic the slight edge. I watched the majority of both series and Sakic was waaay more visible of the two. Hejduk v. Cleary Cleary is coming back from an injury so I don't blame him for being nearly invisible, but with that being the case, I'd certainly give the edge to Hejduk. 4 points vs 1 point... again not a huge difference, but noticeable. I see it as (based on 1st round performance) Forsberg v. Datsyuk, Edge: Detroit Sakic v. Zetterberg, Edge: Colorado Stastny v. Filppula, Edge: Colorado Smyth v. Holmstrom, Edge: Detroit Hejduk v. Cleary, Edge: Colorado Brunette v. Samuelsson, Edge: Colorado Wolski v. Hudler, Even Arnason v. Franzen, Edge Detroit Overall, Slight Edge for CO. I honestly think the depth is just about a draw too. Guite is getting better with every game I see, Laperrie does a pretty good job of his role and isn't aging like McCary/Drake. Maltby, is he healhty yet? Helm has impressed me a bit more than Jones/McLeod. I think that if our secondary scoring can step up a bit we'll have no problem, overall. Offense: Colorado Defense: Detroit Goaltending: Detroit Special teams: slight edge Detroit (Strong PK) Physcial Game: draw I think it'll be a 6 game series, but Detroit should take it Can't wait for tomorrow night!

I really really hope Game 7 is shown on Versus... IF there is a Game 7! Got tickets to Game 4 and maybe Game 6! yeah!
-
I am quite glad I purchased a Game 4 ticket to the Avs game earlier today :D
-
I wonder if it'll be posted on wikipidea again like last year, haha.
-
If I remember correctly, a rivalry already existed between Quebec and Detroit.. It was just amplified by dirty ass Lemeiux.
-
Medium is size 48-50 right? You still selling it? I live in CO and if the Sharks win tonight I seriously need a jersey for the Pepsi Center games next week
-
Yeah AO. At least game 7 will be on Versus I think.

I may have missed this if it was already posted... but does anybody have a link for the Flyers/Caps game for streaming it online?
