If 2.5 is what Avery is asking for than that makes the Flyers look that much worse for the contract Hartnell got. wow.
-
And with the trade deadline months and months away..... I'd get used to it.
-
Are you talking about the 37 year old Fedorov? Acutally an honest question since I don't make it a habit to watch the Blue Jackets.
-
He's definately better than what we'll have to work with. And yes, some other team will be more than willing to pay more than Detroit would be able to. That being said it would be very foolish of Calgary to let him go. I don't see them as a playoff team without Kiprusoff.

One thing that I'm curious about is this strong hatred for Forsberg. In his prime- which is long gone- he was one of the best players on the ice. While I hated the Avalanche and thus hated him during Wings v Avs games, I held no ill will toward him otherwise. He was the exact type of player I'd love to have on my roster. I typed "Was" because now he is far too injury plagued to be worth the cap space. So my question I is why do some of you hate him so much? He played phsycial, but I don't remember him playing dirty. I also don't remember him diving either. Just curious.
-
I think they are both in danger of officially being labled washed up. No such thing exists as a healthy Forsberg and Fedorov is just not the player he used to be. I'd take option C: somebody else That said, I would rather the Wings pick up Forsberg if he is STILL unsigned simply because I really wouldn't want to give up much at all for an aging Fedorov. No offense Fedorov fans.

You make a strong point. I think I'm happy about this specific transaction because it is Burke and the Ducks put in a s***ty situation. But regardless, frivilous overspending WILL catch up with GM's in the world of the Cap. Look at the NFL.
-
I think what we will see in the next few off seasons is teams like New York and Philly paying for their recent overzealous FA signings. Short term the prices for players is pretty damn high, but once these same teams need to start re-signing up and coming players and the cap has them screwed I think we'll start to see this even itself out. At that point, smart spending GM's (Holland ) will be sitting pretty. That's why I see this off-season almost from the perspective of "short-term pain, long term gain." And I commend Lowe for his aggressive moves. $4mil+ and all those picks is really expensive, but he's trying to make his team competitive and back in the playoffs while other teams, such as my poor, pathetic Coyotes just sit and writhe in basement of the league almost content to make no moves.
-
I mainly like this move since either way the Ducks get slighly screwed. I would not be surprised if Burke lets Penner go and takes the draft picks and cap space. I feel bad for Lowe too, this seems to be the only way players sign in Edmonton.

I posted this in the Simpsons Movie thread but I am nerdy enough to double post it here. Nice pix people, keep em coming!

Wings to invite former Whaler Vernarsky to camp

I haven't found anything recent on him thus far but hockeysfuture.com has a 2005 article stating- Maybe things have changed in 2 years, who knows. But if nothing else, GR is looking better and better. -
Rumor: Blue Jackets may buy out Fedorov's contract

I want the wings to check out Jeff Lerg

I remember hearing his name mentioned every few minutes during the Frozen Four -
I agree with ya, just being unrealistically optimistic.

I'm very curious about this guy myself. He almost seems like a prospect with a lot of potential, then I realize he's 29 years old with 26 career NHL points. But who knows maybe playing for a talented team like the Wings instead of Chicago, Atlanta and Columbus will help. Out of the GR signings, this one has my attention.
-
That is a list I could definately live with.
-
I like everything but the 2nd line. Too bad FA signings were so steep. I wonder what we'll have to cough up in a trade for a 2nd line scorer. (unless Hudler or possibly Grigs ends up with a solid season).

I don't live in MI and I don't follow baseball or basketball whatsoever, but I can tell you that when I watched the Wings play in Phoenix & Colorado vs the Lions play against the Cards/Broncos that the visiting fans had a waaaaaaaaay larger presence in Red Wings jerseys then Lions jerseys. Visiting Wings fans almost overwhelm the home hockey team, but Lions fans were few and far between. Maybe hockey fans are more loyal when they move, or maybe it's just bandwagon fans, but I know the Wings are well represented across the country, but at the same time I seem to be the only Lions fan in the state.

I know hindsight is 20/20 and all but how did the Islanders ever think Yashin was worth: It's equally crazy to me that he'd rather play in an inferior league for a bit more money -while already being paid by the Islanders to not be on their roster- instead of the best league with by far the best trophy in sports. I guess that's where the phrase "good riddance to bad rubbish" comes in.
-
Maybe Leneveu could use another year down there though, he still hasn't been able to do much yet in the NHL from what I've seen. But I still am holding out hope that he can become their future #1 goalie. It's an alright place to live- I did for 22 years. But playing goal behind that talent starved roster is not easy. And talk about a complete 180 in going from hockey crazy Montreal to Phoenix. No more getting hounded for autographs or TV/radio appearences.
-
Oh man, I didn't notice that block of white on the fore arms of the blue jerseys. Now I officially think they are terrible. It looks like they are wearing cheap NHL knockoff T-shirts from Walmart.
-
haha, harsh. I agree. My first thought was, did they turn into a lacross team? I don't know why, but I think that's a great reason to like a jersey. I've always kinda liked the mustard one because if I use my imagination and squint it almost looks like U of M is playing in the NHL.

HSBC Arena Jumbotron accident in 1996
Wings_Fan_In_Exile replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
When I had a construction job in high school I made some bone headed mistakes like breaking a sprinkler head, but dang nothing compared to being the guy responsible for that behemoth falling. Dang, that's a rough day at the office. -
You're probably right, but they always seem to get bumped down in the draft lottery. On a side note, I am really really hoping Tavares lives up to the hype, I just can't hop on the Crosby bandwagon.
