I'd imagine Avery would see Hartnell's deal and be thinking $$$ right about now.
-
I agree. I really really really hope this is the last year of this crap schedule. It's against everything that is good and holy for the Wings not the play the Leafs every season. And waiting four years to see an Eastern Conference team play is a JOKE.
-
The simple answer to that dilemma is sign neither. They both have proven that greed has ruled their actions and neither are the player they used to be.
-
Avery would be a great addition to this team. If the Rangers can't afford him, I wonder what he would cost us.
-
I hate to say it but Mac is quickly becoming a washed up player. Too bad his financial situation isn't bette and he could hang em up.
-
If that article doesn't make it clear that Yashin only plays for the money, I'm not sure what would. I'm glad this will keep his greedy ass away from the Wings and hopefully outta the NHL.
-
No kidding, that vid made me want us to snag Petrovicky too. haha.
-
I can't imagine the Wings wasting upwards of 4 mil of cap space on him and I also can't imagine Yashin signing for 2 mil.
-
This just makes me think, big time UFA in '08. Keep the cap space Kenny!
-
I'll preface this by saying that Crosby is a very talented player, one of the best if not the most skilled player, blah blah blah and he is worth that contract. The way I see that $9mil per year breaking down is $25,000 for every goal, $20,000 for every assist and $40,000 for every time he whines.

Drake Siginng Probably Won't be The Last
Wings_Fan_In_Exile replied to WingedWheels's topic in General
I also don't see Drake spending time in GR. But beyond a trade where is this scoring forward going to come from? -
That doesn't sound so bad. The more I think about it, the better I feel about this off-season. The main difference between the roster this year and last year is the loss of Lang and Markov. People seem to be glad Lang is gone and we have decent depth on D, although like Holland said some additional grit would be nice. This team should be just fine going into next season, and give our youth a chance to grow up/into the system. Now fans of the Coyotes or Blue Jackets should be pissed since they sucked last year and with no moves, will suck again. But Detroit is not in that position at all. Most teams that made moves were bad last year or will be paralyzed by the salary cap for the next few.
-
You live in Fargo?
-
Close, it's his lil brother. I'm sure he'll do well in GR, for whatever that's worth.
-
Damn. I wanted Guerin here.... but not for that much money. No wonder Holland hasn't been that active. GM's be overpaying! Not much left out there now. I'll be curious to see how our offense does this year.

I didn't notice anybody on here "screaming" about the signing. If anything it's people a little over-excited IMO, or people like me saying, "meh, he's cheap, will help in the regular season but we will need somebody bigger/stronger/grittier for the playoffs". I'm not a fan of the Ducks or their defensive, shutdown style but the fact is they beat us with those "goons and fighters". To me, Hudler is the kind of player that might be very good in the regular season, but disappear in the playoffs. I'm fine with the signing since it's cheap and he does have potential, but we still have a need to fill to be successful in the playoffs next season.
-
Perhaps you watched Hudler closer than I because most of the time I saw him on the ice he was getting manhandled by much larger opponents. Maybe Flip was more noticeable to me cuz he got more minutes, but I personally saw him doing more out there and holding his own in the physical second season much better.
-
That's pretty funny. Maybe now Brodeur will have some gas left in the tank for the playoffs next year.
-
Filppula actually had some moments where he was effective- like when he dug out the puck from two sharks and fed Lang for the game tying goal. Hudler looked like a child among men. He's got skills for sure but I just don't see him as one to thrive in the playoffs. I'd love it if he proved me wrong though.
-
Not a bad signing. He'll be a good depth player for the regular season. I can't imagine this lil guy doing much in the playoffs though. Sure pure speculation, but most small guys get pushed around in the playoffs. Remember him vs the Sharks?
-
Did you post in the spam blocker thread? Until you do you cannot start a new topic. I am OK with not signing any more D-men, I think we have decent depth there. But unless Grigorenko is waay better than I expect (honestly I have no idea what to expect outta him), I want Holland to get a decent forward.
-
Like we talked about in the other thread, they are rumored to be hot on Kozlov's trail. And that's all I've read anywhere so far.

Wings sign (G) Adam Berkhoel, (D) Brad Ference
Wings_Fan_In_Exile replied to Filppula41's topic in General
This debate reminds me a little of "who would win in a comic book throwdown, batman or spiderman?" I maintain that Ference sucks. An addition to Grand Rapids if they need a big doofus. But who knows, maybe he has "sharpened" his skills in the minor leagues the last few years. -
I'd say both are probably out of our price range. Not sure about Comrie, but I've read that Kozlov wants around 4mil or more a season. I would take Comrie if I had to choose. While he is small he is also a tough lil bastard. Quick, has a scoring touch and will drop the gloves with other small lil bastards. Out of the remaining FA's I remain intruiged by Guerin. Yes this past playoff season he sucked, but 50pts in 105 playoff games is decent. And he adds toughness too. It's not ALL about the stats.

I remember Ference when he played for the Coyotes... before they waived him. Back then he was a physical d-man which is nice, but along with that came a butt-load of penalties and he was often out of position. I don't remember him being all that fast either. Point is he wasn't good enough for a mediocre Phoenix team... I sure hope he improved since then. I'd take Lilja and Quincey way ahead of him. Of course sometimes players get better once in Detroit. Sometimes.
