Depending on what Edmonton would want from that hypothetical trade, it could be a very good move.
-
I keep thinking about Guerin. 6'2" 210lbs. He's decently powerful and tough. Scored 36 goals, 56 points in the regular season. Only cost 2 mil. Of course he was invisible in the playoffs, but maybe part of that was finding a role on the new team.
-
I was thinking the same thing. But I kind of like having a 1st round pick. The our off-season FA signings go, building through the draft is a very good move.
-
I would definately like to see a top 6 forward signed by October, hopefully sooner. Ideally a scorer with some grit and size (original thought right?).
-
I'd rather have Guerin for half the price.
-
I half expect him to retire. He hasn't been healthy in years and that is obviously not changing. If he doesn't retire I bet he goes back to Colorado.
-
This is definately an adjustment from the old pre-cap days where the Wings could sign a few big names a summer.
-
If it does indeed turn out that way it is going to be a loooong wait til trade deadline day to get an impact player.
-
Miller would make sense, but I really don't like him as a player. I hope he stays away.
-
I can't think of anybody on the Islanders that the Wings would be trading for. The Stars have been pretty quiet with limited cap space. Stars lack cap space, eyeing Kozlov. Haven't seen much else beyond re-signing Zubov.
-
Thanks for that. I am really glad I am not an Islanders fan. haha.

Great move by Holland. Schneider did well when he was here and hopefully Rafalski will do better! And Hatcher is no comparison to Rafalski. No worries about that happening again.
-
I could see Roenick signing for cheap. IMO he is only sticking around the league to collect his 500th goal. And I'm sure he'd love a roster spot on a Cup contending team. I wouldn't be pissed if we signed him somewhere around the 1 million mark.
-
I'm guessing Peca stays in Toronto but he might be had for around 2 mil. Not that I really want him on the Wings.
-
According to hockeyzoneplus.com Guerin made 2mil last year. I know he was invisible in the playoffs and is no spring chicken but he could fill a hole in our line up for relatively cheap.

word.

No Belfour! I hate that man! Hasek will come back. I'm 80% sure of it.
-
I pretty much agree with all that too.
-
Looking at the roster on paper, I want to see a top 6 forward who can score goals and I'd like to see somebody who will throw their body around and drop the gloves (stupid instigator rule). And of course re-signing Dom. If these things don't happen I won't freak out, but I will be nervous all the way til the trade deadline.

Methinks we are on the same page. Oh and HockeyCrazy3033 I happen to like your positive posts amid all the player bashing that goes on here, helps even things out. But if Bert "wanted to stay in Detroit" he would have.
-
Maybe a lil bit of both. But lets see how these free spending teams do the next few years if the cap stops rising or when their current contracts with up and coming players expire. They won't have room to breathe.
-
After a few days to digest this happening.... I feel a lot better about how Holland is handling things. I've read about a ton of contracts where players are in my opinion being overpaid and signed for way longer than I'd want most players locked in for. Bert at $8 mil for two years is one of those contracts. MAYBE he goes out and proves he's not finished, but that is a big maybe at 4mil of cap space til the summer of '09. I wanted to see what he could do with a one year contract but he wanted more money, and I don't blame him since I've never been offered an 8 million dollar contract. But I am still pissed he chose the damn Ducks! I trust Holland to fill the gaps nicely and leave some room for a nice trade deadline day pickup or two.
-
I wonder if he is worth the 4.15 mil he brings with him. He hasn't played a full season since 2004 and he's not getting any younger at 34 with 2 years left on his contract. I hope we find somebody a lil cheaper and younger.

Just found this thread.. Man do the Lions make me greatful for the WIngs sucess or what?

I wouldn't mind seeing BIlly the Butcher here and I have always liked Marvkov. And as a Wings fan with a hardcore bias I will go ahead and agree with your statement.
