TSN: Off-Season Game Plan: Red Wings
Wings_Fan_In_Exile replied to WhiteLightning91's topic in General
Holland to meet with Bert, Schneider and Hasek's agents during the draft Hasek: a raise from the $750,000 he earned last season is expected, Hasek isn't likely to disrupt the salary structure. Schneider: Holland said the Wings have interest in Schneider but only so many dollars to spend. Bertuzzi:"We have interest in Todd, but it all comes down to the dollars," said Holland, noting the Wings' limitations with the salary cap. Nothing too new here with the three mentioned, all comes down to how much they want. Hopefully Philly's overpayment of Timonen doesn't push Schneider into testing the FA market. And no mention of Calder or Markov in the article. -
This also makes me wonder how inflated salaries will be come July 1. I get the feeling there may be plenty more overpayment come July 1. Makes me wonder if we can afford Bert and Schneider.....
-
Wow those are some pricey contracts. I wonder if Philly will be regretting that $6.3 million/year cap hit when Timonen is the ripe age of 38 years old. Not everybody ages like Cheli.

That's a very good point. It would be awesome to have a D-man back there taking guys out. I suppose Lilja does a decent job of that. -
Their stats have my atttention. I also found it funny that that Tyler weighs 190 and Justin weighs 174. A bit of a difference for twins.

IMO Quincey played well enough in the playoffs to earn him some ice time next season. And that would leave us more cap space to get a 2nd line winger. -
Not trying to pick a fight here or anything, but you ever talk to hockey fans from MN?? In an ideal world I'd like to see the Wild and Stars switch names/logos (keep rosters) and bring the North Stars back to MN and make Dallas fans cheer for a team with a weird name. I'd like to see the Preds move somewhere in Ontario and send the Panthers to Winnipeg (I'm also a Coyotes fan ) I would also like to see the Hartford Whalers reborn but not sure how successful they were the first time round. Reallistically I'd like the NHL to go a season or two with NO changes. Esepcially no expansion teams if nothing else.

I'm currently of the opinion that if a team is going to move it should be away from an area where winter and hockey fans barely exist and back to areas where both naturally occur... and I'm a Coyotes fan.

So it's the middle of June I wonder who is getting the offers...... Like Ashenden said, if Grigorenko makes the team I could him taking Hudler's possible spot. I think part of it too is that Hudler while talented is pretty damn small. Not always, but pretty often the smaller guys seem to get bullied and lack production in the second season. -
Everybody is entitled to their opinion and my opinion is that eliminating the off-side rule (no "s" in that word- sorry a mini pet peeve of mine ) is a HORRIBLE idea. As is making nets bigger. There have been enough changes as it is. I enjoy watching a game where each goal is excitng. A 12-10 game full of cherry picking isn't hockey to me.

I think we did. And again I have to state how opposed I am to #9!
-
Not sure if that was intended as sarcasm , But I think there is little doubt -at least to me- that Balsillie wants a team in Hamilton. He backed out of the Penguins deal -which was for $175 mil I believe, about $45 million cheaper- because he would have been prevented from moving the team. To me there is only one reason he bought the Preds and it has nothing to do with Nashville.

Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part but I tend to believe moving a team from Tennessee to Canada would be a good thing for the health of the league. I know personally that I'd rather watch a team from Canada that has a whole city excited about them then going to watch the Predators whose city- for the most part- doesn't give a rat's ass about their existence. Maybe it's faulty logic but if THEIR fans don't care about the team, why should I? Makes it harder for me to take a team seriously. (ex: the Mighty Ducks of Disney a few years back) And an owner willing to dump that much money into a team is also a good sign to me as well. I feel for you die hard Preds fans out there, but I look forward to the move WHEN it happens sooner or later.

Yeah I was very happy when they updated their logo/uniform. Too bad they play in "Jobing.com Arena"

That's true. I guess it's nothing all that new. Remember the first Coyotes jersey? I guess it's more ugly than busy but still
-
It's probably just my association of the new Reebok jersey with this years All Star Game, but that Caps jersey to me looks like it belongs in the All Star Game, not the normal home/away jersey for an actual team. It's just so... busy.

I'm surprised somebody thought Gratton was worth a 2nd round pick. I'm still bitter with the Coyotes trading Briere and a 2nd rounder for Gratton and a 3rd rounder some years back (yes I am a Coyotes fan too). This is his 7th time being "new" to a team. Sometimes that alone hints to me that he might be unwanted for a reason.

Stay away from the Dark Side Scotty!!!
-
He seems like a pretty decent prospect. I know he's only 18 but 5'11" 161lbs is on the small side..

I can see it in your dog's eyes. Wings Fan.

F**king A. Here's to him staying healthy.

The Wings drafting a European??? It has worked so far.

Favorite fans that we've seen this series?

No doubt the Sharks fans were the best we've seen. Some Ducks fans were pretty level headed and maybe a few Flames fans. I don't even think my hating the Flames and Ducks before this playoff year had any bias on that either.
