we don't need him and aren't going after him ... ozzie is the starter, and if we pick up anyone it will be a veteran guy for low money to help as backup ... kenny's philosophy is that you don't need a $7 million goalie to win it (as evidenced by this past season) and he'd rather spend his $ on quality 2 way players that fit the puck possession and team defense style the wings play with ... (no, didn't just pull this out of my ass, there is an article with kenny in the hockey news, but i can't find it online to give a link)

bulking up would most likely increase the chance of reinjuring the back ... bert hasn't played a physical game like you describe in years, and i don't think it's a matter of "realizing" he needs to ... he's a big body with skill, he can still create some space, but questionable health, less-than-great speed, questionable hunger ... i would pass ...

i agree, but i don't think they're worried about beating the west just yet, they just want to get back to the playoffs, and in the southeast you don't need a perfect team for that ... make the playoffs the next few years, let their young d-men develop and get some experience, maybe pick up a veteran defenseman down the road, and in a couple years they could be contenders ... it sounds good on paper anyway

yeah, these are pretty good moves ... i wouldn't say they are cup contenders, a little young and untested on the beck end, but it should definitely get them back into the playoffs this year and beyond, especially in the southeast ... atlanta and florida don't seem to be doing anything, washington may have some issues if huet and green leave, and carolina ... i don't know what carolina's problem is ...

wow, getting very personal over the grammar here ... the pens do "need to win 3 in a row" to win the series ... 1 that they have won and 2 more ... that makes 3 in a row ... if they only win 2 in a row, that would be the last game and this one, since 1 + 1 = 2, which would mean they would have to lose game 7, because winning it would make 3 in a row ...

let's not turn this into another hank vs. pavel thread ... hank had an awesome pk shift, that has nothing to do with and takes nothing away from pavel ... awesome, awesome work ... and no real surprise that crosby can't appreciate it, seeing as he never does it ... i couldn't help thinking when the announcers were arguing about whether therrien should use crosby and malkin on penalty kills just to get them more ice time, and one of them (mcguire?) was saying no, they can't do it, what a stark contrast to hank and pavel ...

no one here is saying they are playing poorly or looking solely at the stats, but the bottom line is if they aren't on the stats sheet it means they aren't scoring or assisting on goals ... it just doesn't seem right to point the finger at 2/3 of the line and say they need to produce when thay have played just as well and put more on the scoreboard than the guy you're letting off the hook ... hank gets thrown out of the faceoff circle a lot because he tries to get a jump on the puck and he knows if he gets tossed it's pavel coming in behind him, so no big deal ... not sure why you're bashing homer, what you said there doesn't even make sense ... none of his goals are ever on an empty or open net, they're usually deflection or tap-ins around the goaltender

i was flipping through the latest hockey news when i came across this ad ...

to an extent it isn't about points, and to be honest i think they've all been playing well, but the bottom line is they are our top line, and they need to produce on the scoreboard - all of them ... and it doesn't make sense to blame 2 of them and not the other, just because we think of dats as more of a set-up man doesn't mean we shouldn't expect goals from him as well ...

my 2 cents ... stanley cups are not won or lost at the deadline, and deadline moves can't be judged solely by the outcome of the playoffs, or else you automatically have 1 good gm and 15 bad ones ... the gm has to look at options available, weigh immediate and long-term concerns, and make decisions based on all of this ... it is pure speculation for us to guess at what kenny could have or should have done, and it is pure speculation for us to guess what would have happened had he done this or that ... in other words, a waste of time the folks who felt we could have improved the team more at the deadline had and have every right to still feel that way, the fact that we are where we are doesn't mean we couldn't have been improved ... i don't think they need to apologize or eat crow for that ... the folks i'd like to hear from are the ones who were completely doubting our roster even though we were in 1st place, forecasting doom and gloom and another 1st round exit, saying we'll never go anywhere with the goaltending we had, etc etc ... but i'm guessing they're not around anymore ...
