Just as stats are meaningless, so are seeds. The fact that Anaheim was an 8 seed doesn't mean they should have been a cake walk ... they took out the 1-seed, remember? Every team is vulnerable. As for the championship, I don't think anything's in the bag. I'll be honest, Pittsburgh worries me. I think the Wings have the better team from top to bottom, but I've yet to see us string together a bunch of games where everyone plays at the level they're capable of. Getting better, but not there yet. Crosby and Malkin have been pretty dominant. Whether they can continue that against Detroit, a better defensive team than what they've played against so far, remains to be seen. I will say, they definitely seem to be playing with something to prove. It should be a great series.

Can anyone name a player who hasn't blown an assignment? Ever? I get so tired of these threads every time someone you don't like makes a mistake. Mistakes happen, just about every time a goal is scored, and lots of times when one isn't scored. It's too bad there's no forum like this about your job, Jake Ryan, so that someone else could start ridiculous threads bashing you everytime you drop a hamburger on the floor or burn the fries. Wait ... are you old enough to have a job?

If Chelios and Babcock dislike each other, why did the Wings bring him back? Why did Cheli come back? Certainly not for the playing time ...

Instead of starting another ridiculous thread every time you're tired of the other discussions going on, try this: 1. Look at the top right of your screen. 2. Find the little red box with the X in it. 3. Move your mouse to position your arrow on the X. 4. Click it. 5. Problem solved.

Yup, watching at home ... nowhere around here is showing the game as far as I know, plus I have a 6-month-old daughter at home, I work early, and the beer is a lot cheaper in my basement.

Nobody, but as Kopecky just demonstrated you run a risk having your non-fighters start fighting, even to take an opposing player off the ice. Losing Homer for 5 minutes is one thing, losing him for the rest of the playoffs would be a problem.
-
Not if he gets his face broken in the process.
-
No big deal. With his hockey playing days winding down, he's just getting his ducks in a row for a possible political career. I'm pretty sure you have to owe back taxes in order to run ...
-
Yup ... with his face!
-
I know I shouldn't go here, because we don't really need another enforcer debate, but Kopecky is now the second player we've lost this year in a fight. Most of the posters in this thread are applauding his willingness to stand up for himself, and I agree wholeheartedly ... but isn't that the whole point of having a guy like Downey around? Sticking up for teammates, sacrificing the body, building team chemistry, etc? I realize Downey doesn't bring the skill set that Kopecky has, but now Kopecky isn't going to be bringing the skill set either. Would we really be that much worse off having Downey around to absorb the blows (and hopefully land a few too) instead of guys like Kopecky?
-
I see ... I don't disgree with that, I think most people have been pretty quick to say good for him for sticking up for himself/teammates. I can buy the chemistry/sacrifice benefit. The fight itself, though ... pretty brutal. The timing of it ... debatable. Effective at deterring future physicality from the Ducks ... highly unlkely.
-
Yup, I agree. Currently we have the skill to work around their physical play.
-
I don't think anyone's disputing that ...
-
I know, I'm not saying if you take one guy out of the D the rest will fall apart. But really, as a defenseman, isn't it more challenging to play against a more aggressive and physical team? And if you're icing multiple young and inexperienced defensemen, as we were 2 years ago, wouldn't that compound the difficulty?
